Week 1 Projections, 29 Undervalued RBs And MORE

Howdy Folks,

Good Tuesday to you. Just a regular day here as we've got WEEK 1 DETAILED STAT PROJECTIONS live for you. No big deal. Plus a ton of undervalued running backs you need to know plus RB film and spreadsheet studs plus Dr. Jene Bramel on injuries and MORE.

Let's do this.

SITE NEWS

A. Week 1 Projections Are LIVE
Yes. It's ridiculously early to have Detailed Stat Projections live for Week 1 of the NFL Season. But that's what we do. We're quite sure they'll change significantly from now until September 10, but here they are. It's what we do at Footballguys.

B. 29 Undervalued Running Backs
Winning Fantasy Football is about finding value and we asked our Footballguys Staffer to identify the running backs they saw as undervalued. This is what they said. And like always, we give you all the different opinions but then also our "Bottom Line" projections for where we plant the Footballguys Flag with these players.

C. The Gut Check No.511: RB Film and Spreadsheet Studs
Matt Waldman looks at the film and the metrics and shares the backs whose skills intersect best for 2020 fantasy drafts.

D. Monday Injury Rounds: Preseason Week 4
Dr. Jene Bramel with follow up analysis on Kerryon Johnson, Sony Michel, Alex Smith, and more.

E. Average Draft Position Updated For PPR
It's not enough to know where you want to draft a player. You have to know where the other GMs in your league will draft a player. Our Average Draft Position (ADP) data is your ticket. This one is for PPR scoring.

F. Average Draft Position Updated For Non-PPR
It's not enough to know where you want to draft a player. You have to know where the other GMs in your league will draft a player. Our Average Draft Position (ADP) data is your ticket. This one is for Non-PPR scoring.

1. CLE - RB Nick Chubb may have concussion

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb (head) is being evaluated for a concussion after he left practice early Monday, Aug. 17.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation for more news. A concussion could have lingering effects if Chubb tries to come back too soon. Chubb is one of the best running backs in the game today and should be a late first- or early second-round pick in every fantasy draft.

2. NE - Equal snaps for New England QBs

Source: ESPN.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots QBs Cam Newton, Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer received equal repetitions during practice Monday, Aug. 17.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots are not going to announce a starting quarterback until they have to. Newton should come out on top in this competition and so long as he's healthy could have a bounce-back season in 2020. We're expecting Stidham to beat out Hoyer for the no.2 quarterback job.

3. DET - TE T.J. Hockenson's ankle still an issue?

Source: MLive.com - Kyle Meinke

Detroit Lions TE T.J. Hockenson (ankle) told reporters Monday, Aug. 17, that the ankle injury that caused him to finish his rookie season on injured reserve has been an issue for him this offseason and that it is still not quite 100 percent.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That was the last update we got on Hockenson too. He's not yet 100 percent, so we're waiting for a time with the talented second-year pro is at full strength. Hockenson flashed as a rookie early in the 2019 season and then fell off. We'll see if he can get as close to full strength as possible and play up to expectations.

4. CIN - WR A.J. Green tweaks hamstring

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Tyler Dragon

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (hamstring) tweaked his hamstring Monday, Aug. 17.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bengals want to be cautious with Green here. The savvy veteran does not need a ton of reps in training camp, and the team wants to get the most out of him in what could be his final season with the Bengals. He's playing on the one-year franchise tag but does want to sign a long-term deal to stay in Cincinnati this offseason.

5. BAL - WR Chris Moore to miss time

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens WR Chris Moore (finger) is expected to miss some time because of a broken finger.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moore could work as a deep target in the passing game because of his speed and ball-tracking ability. He's got little fantasy value in 2020 with his limited role in the Ravens run-heavy offense.

6. NYJ - Vyncint Smith injury update

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Updating a previous report, New York Jets WR Vyncint Smith (core) is expected to miss five to eight weeks because of his core muscle surgery, according to his agent.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith was in line to compete for the no.3 job on the depth chart. That job is now rookie Denzel Mims almost without question. Jamison Crowder and Breshad Perriman should be the top two targets at the position, but Mims has the upside to be the best of the bunch when fully developed.

7. DAL - DT Gerald McCoy's season over

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Calvin Watkins

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys DL Gerald McCoy (quad) was diagnosed with a ruptured right quad tendon Monday, Aug. 17, and will miss the 2020 season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bad news for the Cowboys defense here. McCoy was set to be a mainstay on the defensive line as the Cowboys looked to get stronger against the run. Signed to a three-year, $18 million deal this offseason McCoy still looked like he had plenty left in the tank with the Panthers last year.

8. PIT - WR James Washington day-to-day

Source: ESPN - Brooke Pryor

Pittsburgh Steelers WR James Washington (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day because of an undisclosed injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No need to worry this early in training camp. The Steelers are being wisely cautious here with Washington. Fantasy GMs should be excited about the prospects of the Steelers passing attack with QB Ben Roethlisberger back and healthy. Washington has got at least 'what the heck' flex appeal in deeper leagues.

9. ARI - CB Robert Alford injured Sunday

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Arizona Cardinals CB Robert Alford (pectoral) suffered a pectoral injury in practice Sunday, Aug. 16. The team has yet to provide a timetable for how long he will be sidelined.

10. BAL - WR Dez Bryant to work out for BAL

Source: NFL Network - Jane Slater and Tom Pelissero

Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) will work out for the Baltimore Ravens this week.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant tore his Achilles' with the Saints last year and has been out of the league since then. He could give the Ravens veteran experience in a young wide receiver room if signed.

11. PHI - RB Miles Sanders to see more reps

Source: NBC Sports Philadelphia - John Clark

Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders is expected to see more repetitions this season, and he was told he was the guy by head coach Doug Pederson.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's been the buzz this offseason and that drum beat has been steady. Fantasy GMs are excited by Sanders due to his talent and this expanded role. His current ADP is RB8 (1.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

12. TEN - QB Ryan Tannehill gets excused day off

Source: 1 No Source

Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill did not participate in the team's first padded practice Monday, Aug. 17, but head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters the absence was 'accounted for and everything is good.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Not a big deal. Tannehill likely had something else to take care of and is expected to be back in practice on Tuesday according to Vrabel.

13. CIN - RB Rodney Anderson cut

Source: Bengals.com

Cincinnati Bengals RB Rodney Anderson (undisclosed) was waived Monday, Aug. 17, with a failed physical designation.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Anderson has talent but he's just injured too often. It happened in college and that injury bug seems to have followed him to the pros. His hard-charging style might earn him a long-shot with another team...provided he can pass a physical.

14. NE - New England signs three

Source: Patriots.com

Free-agent TE Paul Butler (Raiders), TE Alex Ellis (Eagles) and OG Benjamin Braden (Jets) signed with the New England Patriots Monday, Aug. 17. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They've been looking for help at the tight end position for most of the offseason. The Patriots do have two interesting rookie tight ends in Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene but wanted more competition at the position.

15. DEN - RB Andrew Beck activated

Source: NFLCommunications.com

Denver Broncos TE Andrew Beck was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Aug. 17.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Beck is listed as a tight end but he's mainly there to block like a fullback or get on the field as an H-back. Noah Fant is the starter in Denver at the position and the most fantasy relevant player at tight end for the Broncos.

16. TEN - WR Corey Davis ready for action

Source: Broadway Sports - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis (toe) was activated from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list on Monday, Aug. 17.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis had toe surgery this offseason and will now resume practicing. Defenses are going to be focused on WR A.J. Brown and RB Derrick Henry, so Davis should get plenty of one-on-one looks. The former first-round pick is not getting drafted in most leagues as his fantasy relevance might not be that great opposite of Brown and in the Titans run-heavy scheme.

17. DET - Jonathan Williams signs with DET

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent RB Jonathan Williams (Colts) signed an undisclosed deal with the Detroit Lions Monday, Aug. 17.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams is a big back who has never gotten much of a chance in the NFL. He'll be hard pressed to make the Lions 53-man roster. Only Fantasy GMs in crazy deep dynasty formats should be monitoring him.

18. GB - TE Jace Sternberger ready to return

Source: NFLCommunications.com

Green Bay Packers TE Jace Sternberger was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Aug. 17.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sternberger has intriguing upside as a tight end prospect if he can stay healthy. We'll see how his development goes in his second season after his rookie season was a wash due to injury.

19. MIA - WR Preston Williams works at return

Source: ESPN.com - Cameron Wolfe

Miami Dolphins WR Preston Williams worked as a punt returner during practice Monday, Aug. 17.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams can be a returner if need be due to his speed and elusiveness. The Dolphins are thin at the wide receiver position, and Williams is one of the top two at the position -- working opposite of DeVante Parker. Williams can be a return man but expect someone else to have a bulk of those duties with Williams playing such a large role on offense.
