I've said for years there's no smarter group of Fantasy Football people than Footballguys Subscribers. And there are a LOT of you. We're up to almost half a million subscribers for the Daily Email Update and that number will continue to go up through August.
Anytime you have that many people coupled with the kind of football knowledge you folks have, there are some powerful opportunities.
This Wisdom Of The Crowds Rankings is one of those things.
The idea is simple. We throw up two players and you click on the one you'd prefer to draft. That's it. You'll then see the results for both your vote compared to other people in the Footballguys Community. And also how it compares to our Footballguys Staff Experts.
All the while, behind the scenes our Mathguys are taking all the other votes pouring in to create a complete list for how we rank all the players at that position. Which you can see too if you're logged in at Footballguys.
It's pretty rad and we're super excited about it. Check it out and let us know what you think.

1. JAX - QB Gardner Minshew activated

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Aug. 4.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That didn't take long. Minshew was put on the list upon reporting to camp. He's cleared now and ready to see what he can do as the team's unquestioned starter in 2020.

2. DET - QB Matthew Stafford removed from COVID-19 list

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford was removed from the COVID-19 list and placed back onto the active roster Tuesday, Aug. 4. His positive test for COVID-19 was determined to be a false-positive.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Like Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew, Stafford wasn't on the COVID-19 list for that long. Stafford was in line to have perhaps career-best numbers in 2019 and is looking to pick up where he left off before his injury.

3. WAS - QB Alex Smith could compete

Source: The Washington Post - Nicki Jhabvala

Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith (leg) pleasantly surprised head coach Ron Rivera with his recovery from the catastrophic leg injury, and he could join the competition for starting quarterback sometime in training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith has fought hard to get back to this spot. This leg injury was incredibly serious and almost cost Smith his limb. Smith has a ton of experience and if ready to go he could be their best option. Dwayne Haskins, their first-round pick in 2019, is seen as the leader in the room but he's far from a sure thing when it comes to being named the starter. Stay tuned.

4. PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger details injury

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) said he tore three flexor tendons off the bone, and he's attempting to come back from a surgery he believes no quarterback has ever come back from. It wasn't Tommy John surgery, but it was somewhat similar and equally serious.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a serious injury that Roethlisberger is coming back from...at age 38. Who knows what Roethlisberger has left in the tank but after most of 2019 off (only 2 games played) he could look better than some expect. Roethlisberger will be on a rep count in training camp to help keep him fresh for the regular season.

5. TB - RB LeSean McCoy deal officially done

Source: NFLCommunications.com

Updating previous stories, free-agent RB LeSean McCoy (Chiefs) officially signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tuesday, Aug. 4.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy may not be the player he used to be but he can still be an important piece in a running back room. He's going to at least give the team veteran depth, but McCoy could push for playing time. The Bucs have rookie Ke'Shawn Vaughn and Ronald Jones at the top of the depth chart and this has the makings of a three-headed RBBC which can be a problem for Fantasy GMs.

6. SF - QB Jimmy Garoppolo says knee is much better

Source: The Athletic - Matt Barrows

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo provided an update on his knee Tuesday, Aug. 4, saying the difference has been night-and-day from last season and 'it's able to do whatever it needs to do.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Garoppolo led the team to the Super Bowl last year and was solid along the way. We'll see if the 49ers can make another championship run in 2020. Having a healthy Garoppolo will certainly help...now if the 49ers can figure out that WR corps.

7. WAS - WR Dontrelle Inman official

Source: NBC Sports Washington - JP Finlay

Updating a previous report, free-agent WR Dontrelle Inman (Colts) officially signed an undisclosed deal with the Washington Football team. He'll compete for the fourth wide receiver spot with WR Antonio Gandy-Golden, according to beat writer JP Finlay.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll put our chips on the rookie Gandy-Golden. He was a small-school standout at Liberty and showed at the Senior Bowl earlier this year that he can hang with better competition. This battle will unfold in training camp.

8. NE - WR Mohamed Sanu activated

Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

New England Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu (undisclosed) passed his physical and was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 4, according to a source.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanu is looking for a bounce-back season after struggling to impress while banged up during his Patriots debut in 2019. With QB Cam Newton tossing him the rock, Sanu could have some deep flex appeal for Fantasy GMs this year.

9. SEA - TE Will Dissly cleared for camp

Source: Seahawks.com - John Boyle

Seattle Seahawks TE Will Dissly (Achilles) passed his physical upon reporting the training camp Tuesday, Aug. 4.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dissly has talent but he's often injured. If healthy, Dissly can make plays for the offense all over the field. We'll see how he mixes in with veteran TE Greg Olsen who is going to be the starter and primary target at the position.

FOOTBALLGUYS PICKS

Title Text - Detail. Pitch and link.

10. SF - Ziggy Ansah close to Niners deal

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent DE Ziggy Ansah (Seahawks) is going through a physical and COVID-19 testing with the San Francisco 49ers Tuesday, Aug. 4.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The strong get stronger if/when this deal happens. The 49ers traded away DE DeForest Buckner to the Colts for a first-round pick and now may add a talent to the pass rush. Ansah only played in 11 games last year for Seattle and only had 2.5 sacks.

11. ARI - TE Maxx Williams passes physical

Source: NFLCommunications.com

Arizona Cardinals TE Maxx Williams (undisclosed) passed his physical Tuesday, Aug. 4, and was taken off the Physically Unable to Perform list.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams is a big-bodied blocker for the Cardinals offense. There's no fantasy value with him, although we do appreciate his teammate (and the Cardinals starting tight end) Dan Arnold as a late-round sleeper TE2 in super deep leagues.

12. SEA - RB Rashaad Penny put on PUP list

Source: Seahawks.com - John Boyle

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 4.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zero surprise here. Penny's availability for the start of the regular season is in question. He could be on the PUP list to start the season, thus missing at least the first six weeks.

13. LVR - RB Devontae Booker rejoins roster

Source: NFLCommunications.com

Las Vegas Raiders RB Devontae Booker was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Aug. 4.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Booker was added in free agency earlier this year. He's not a productive runner but he has looked good as a receiving back. Booker is competing to establish a pecking order behind starter Josh Jacobs.

14. LVR - Lynn Bowden taking notes at QB, RB

Source: The Athletic - Vic Tafur

Las Vegas Raiders RB Lynn Bowden has reportedly spent some time learning the quarterback position in addition to spending the bulk of his time in the running back room, according to comments made by offensive coordinator Greg Olson.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bowden was one of the most versatile players in the 2020 NFL draft. He can play quarterback, running back or wide receiver. He's going to play running back for the Raiders but his best role, especially as a rookie, is as a receiving option out of the backfield (or perhaps from the slot).

15. MIA - WR Allen Hurns put on reserve list

Source: NFLCommunications.com

Updating a previous story, Miami Dolphins WR Allen Hurns was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Aug. 4.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hurns signed an extension last year and was set to compete for the no.4 spot on the depth chart. Isaiah Ford, Jakeem Grant and Mack Hollins will now compete for that spot.

16. CAR - RB Trenton Cannon claimed by Panthers

Source: ESPN.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Trenton Cannon was claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers Tuesday, Aug. 4.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cannon is an interesting player to monitor but only in crazy deep dynasty formats. He's got tons of speed and quickness to his game. Cannon can change direction on a dime and make defenders look silly in the open field. He was buried on the depth chart with the Jets and now gets a fresh start in Carolina.

17. MIN - Justin Jefferson activated from COVID list

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Aug. 4.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jefferson is going to be a big part of the Vikings offense in 2020...or at least that's the plan. The first-round pick from LSU did a majority of his damage last year from the slot but he's likely have to play some outside in the pros. His game is all about run-after-the-catch ability which is good in the play-action offense like the Vikings run under OC Gary Kubiak.
