NFL | Karlos Williams suspended at least one year    Wed Jun 28, 04:39 PM

Free-agent RB Karlos Williams (Steelers) has been suspended for at least one year, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Steelers waived Williams in March and now it looks like his pro career is done. Williams flashed some talent with the Bills in 2015 but will now be remembered as a cautionary tale.

Steelers | Pittsburgh cut ties with Karlos Williams    Thu Mar 9, 05:37 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Karlos Williams was waived by the team Thursday, March 9.

Footballguys view: Williams flashed as a rookie for the Bills back in 2015, but it's been all downhill since then. He's still got two games to serve on his 10-game ban, so any team that considers him will have to take that into consideration. Williams got out of shape and now finds himself out of a job. We'll see if he can get back on track, but only dynasty players in super deep leagues should be monitoring him.

Steelers | Karlos Williams' suspension almost done    Tue Jan 24, 04:42 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Karlos Williams has one game remaining on his 10-game suspension.

Footballguys view: It was originally speculated that Williams had four games remaining. This is great news for Williams if he can get in shape, stay in shape and produce on the field. Williams will be competing for a reserve role with the Steelers this year. He will be eligible to return for Week 2 of the 2017 regular season.

Steelers | Karlos Williams signs future deal with PIT    Mon Jan 23, 07:16 PM

Free-agent RB Karlos Williams (Steelers) signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Dynasty owners need to keep tabs here. DeAngelo Williams is a free agent in 2017, and he may not be back with the Steelers. Le'Veon Bell is also set to hit the open market, but we think Pittsburgh finds a way to keep him around (franchise tag or long-term deal). Williams has seen his career go off track due to weight problems and a suspension (that still has four games left), but he's still a talented runner when things are aligned. We'll see if he can do anything with this chance the Steelers are giving him.

Steelers | Karlos Williams suspended     Wed Nov 23, 04:08 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Karlos Williams has been suspended for his next 10 games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Footballguys view: Williams has seen his pro career go in the tank. He scored nine TDs last year for the Bills, but weight problems caused them to cut him this year. The Steelers picked him up and put him on the practice squad, but now his spot on the team is in question.

Steelers | Karlos Williams signed by PIT    Wed Oct 12, 10:06 AM

Free-agent RB Karlos Williams (Bills) was signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Footballguys view: An interesting move for the Steelers here. Williams' brother Vince also plays for the team, and on the practice squad the Steelers will be able to develop the young RB. Williams has talent if he is healthy, not suspended and focused. There's a chance he could work his way up to be Le'Veon Bell's backup in 2017.

Bills | Buffalo to meet with Karlos Williams    Thu Oct 6, 12:03 PM

Free-agent RB Karlos Williams (Bills) is scheduled to meet with the Buffalo Bills and is expected to re-sign with the Bills, according to a source.

Footballguys view: While a second chance for Karlos Williams is nice, he's still likely to be in the doghouse--plus we have no idea how many donuts he ate while suspended, or what shape he's in--and would be behind Jonathan Williams and Mike Gillislee in addition to LeSean McCoy.

Jets | Karlos Williams worked out for Gang Green    Wed Aug 31, 10:27 PM

Free-agent RB Karlos Williams (Bills) worked out for the New York Jets recently, a source said Wednesday, Aug. 31.

Footballguys view: The Jets are one of a small handful of teams interested in Williams. He's suspended the first four games of the year no matter where he signs. We don't think Williams finds a new home before Week 1.

Steelers | Karlos Williams works out for Steelers    Wed Aug 31, 07:41 PM

Free-agent RB Karlos Williams (Bills) recently worked out for the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to a source. Williams is still trying to get into game shape.

Footballguys view: Williams could be the Steelers #3 running back after he returns from his suspension, but they are unlikely to make any moves before Week 1 so that Williams' salary is not guaranteed.

NFL | Five interested in Karlos Williams    Thu Aug 25, 12:18 PM

Free-agent RB Karlos Williams (Bills) is receiving interest from five teams, according to sources. Williams has already met with the New York Jets.

Footballguys view: Teams (and Fantasy GMs) have to keep in mind that he is suspended for the first portion of the season. He'll miss four games to start the year, and that suspension will certainly cool the market for his services. Williams has the talent to be a good starter, but it appears he lacks self control. If Williams can change that, he could be an effective back in the NFL.

Jets | New York hosts Karlos Williams    Tue Aug 23, 06:57 PM

Free-agent RB Karlos Williams (Bills) visited the New York Jets Tuesday, Aug. 23. A deal is not imminent, however.

Footballguys view: The Jets will take a look at any player from the AFC East. Williams needs to lose weight and prove that he wants to take football seriously before a team takes a chance on him. He's also got to serve a four-game suspension before getting back onto the field in the regular season.

NFL | Karlos Williams not claimed    Mon Aug 22, 05:10 PM

Free-agent RB Karlos Williams (Bills) was not claimed off waivers and is now an unrestricted free agent, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Williams has what doctors call a bit of a weight problem. At this time, he needs to drop about 20 pounds to show that he's serious about playing football. Oh yeah -- he's also suspended the first month of the season. RB-needy teams should be interested in Williams, so long as he doesn't go 'fat guy in a little coat' during a workout.

NFL | Karlos Williams expects to join new team    Sun Aug 21, 11:25 AM

Free-agent RB Karlos Williams (Bills) fully expects to find a new team after he was released by the Buffalo Bills Saturday, Aug. 20, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Williams showed too much last year to be on the waiver wire for long. He's got excellent speed and receiving ability for a big back. Even if he has to wait until his four game suspension is over, Williams will get signed somewhere - assuming that he has shown that he will keep himself in shape.

Bills | Reggie Bush expected to win No. 2 RB job    Sat Aug 20, 05:51 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Reggie Bush has been considered the favorite to serve as the direct backup for RB LeSean McCoy since the former was signed earlier this month, even before the release of Karlos Williams, according to ESPN.com's Mike Rodak.

Footballguys view: Bush hasn't done anything meaningful on the field for over a year, with only 12 touches last year, so he's not really worth running out to get as a handcuff to McCoy. He'll be on the waiver wire watch list to open the season, but we suspect that he would yield to another back soon enough if he was asked to play a significant number of snaps.

Bills | Karlos Williams likely to be released    Sat Aug 20, 02:10 PM

The Buffalo Bills are expected to release RB Karlos Williams, according to a league source.

Footballguys view: Mike Gillislee will back up LeSean McCoy, but watch out for fifth round rookie Jonathan Williams to push Gillislee and be part of a committee if McCoy goes down. Reggie Bush will be a return man and perhaps play some on passing downs if he makes the team, but that is not a given.

Bills | Karlos Williams passes physical    Mon Aug 15, 09:09 AM

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams (illness) passed his physical Monday, Aug. 15, and will practice after a stint on the Non-Football Illness list.

Footballguys view: Williams is still not draftable except in very deep leagues with a four-game suspension, but if he can get back up to speed without any injuries, he should be the #2 back when he returns and set up for injury upside if LeSean McCoy goes down.

Bills | Karlos Williams close to playing weight    Sat Jul 30, 01:23 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams said he is 'not far at all' from his playing weight.

Footballguys view: He was overweight earlier this offseason and now suspended the first four games of the year. Williams needs to do as much as possible to show that he's serious about being a pro and getting into shape does indicate that.

Bills | Karlos Williams to NFI list    Fri Jul 29, 02:20 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams was placed on the Non-Football Illness list Friday, July 29.

Footballguys view: Williams needs to get in game shape, stat, and then impress the coaches to secure his roster spot in the wake of a four-game suspension to open the season. James Wilder Jr. had a good offseason and he could possibly threaten Williams' spot if his commitment to football appears to be wavering. The team has also reached out to Reggie Bush in the wake of Williams' suspension.

Bills | Karlos Williams not a lock to make team    Wed Jul 27, 02:22 AM

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams isn't considered a lock to make the team, according to beat writer Mike Rodak.

Footballguys view: Things change pretty quickly around here. The Bills have a talented group of RBs behind starter LeSean McCoy. Karlos Williams was supposed to be the primary backup, but he's overweight and suspended four games to start the season. We like rookie Jonathan Williams as a RB who could shine with a larger role. He may be the player that wins the job behind McCoy.

Bills | Karlos Williams suspended four games    Fri Jul 15, 03:03 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams has been suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Footballguys view: It hasn't been a good offseason for Williams. He was already in the doghouse as he's about 20 to 25 pounds overweight, and now Williams will miss the first month of the season. Williams can practice during training camp, and he can play with the team in the preseason. Once the regular season begins, Williams has to stay away from the facility but he's eligible to return in Week 5 against the Rams.

Bills | Two Buffalo RBs could earn playing time    Wed Jul 13, 05:44 PM

Buffalo Bills RBs Mike Gillislee and Jonathan Williams could earn some playing time during training camp if RB Karlos Williams is still overweight when he reports for camp.

Footballguys view: Gillislie showed last year that he could produce on limited touches, and he flashed way more than he did during his time with the Dolphins. Jonathan Williams is one of our favorite rookie RBs from this draft class. He's buried on the depth chart right now, but he's talented and he may not be far from fantasy production if/when injuries strike. Karlos Williams had better get in shape...and get in gear if he doesn't want one or both of these RBs to pass him.

Bills | Karlos Williams might need conditioning    Mon Jul 11, 11:08 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams showed up to minicamp approximately 20-25 pounds overweight. Head coach Rex Ryan indicated the team would need to set a realistic weight-loss goal for Williams by the start of training camp, which probably means he'll be starting practice conditioning on the sideline.

Footballguys view: Williams needs to get in shape and prove that he can be the primary backup behind LeSean McCoy in 2016. He's going to face tough competition from guys like Mike Gillislee and rookie Jonathan Williams. A fifth-round pick out of Arkansas this year, Williams is one of the more naturally talented runners in this draft class. He's powerful and instinctive with the ball in his hands, and Jonathan Williams could easily be a three-down back at the pro level.

Bills | Karlos Williams has gained weight    Tue Jun 21, 01:09 AM

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams was carrying extra weight during minicamp, and said he ate so his pregnant fiancé wouldn't feel bad. He has plenty of time to get into shape, but he'll need to be in top form to hold off hungry RBs Mike Gillislee, James Wilder Jr. and Jonathan Williams.

Footballguys view: So it wasn't the devil that made him do it, but instead devil's food cake? Williams needs to get in shape and prove that he's the best backup option behind LeSean McCoy. We love rookie RB Jonathan Williams, and he may end up being the better option...especially if Karlos Williams can't stay in shape and stay healthy.

Bills | Trio of Buffalo RBs see important reps    Wed Jun 15, 10:07 PM

Buffalo Bills RBs Mike Gillislee, James Wilder Jr. and Jonathan Williams saw the reps in practice Wednesday, June 15, with RBs LeSean McCoy and Karlos Williams sidelined. Williams was most impressive in the practice, showing surprising ability to shift direction and make defenders miss.

Footballguys view: The rookie Williams could be the guy who has the best chance to make an impact this year but he will need McCoy and Karlos Williams to stumble before he becomes fantasy relevant. For now, he's going as the 261st player off the board in drafts as RB77. If anything you can pick him up late but be prepared to let him go early in the season if you have to make room on your roster.

Bills | Karlos Williams to continue conditioning    Wed Jun 15, 05:03 AM

Updating previous reports, Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams will continue to work with the strength and conditioning coaches at practice this week and another two or three weeks after minicamp ends. Head coach Rex Ryan said the team has a plan to get Williams closer to his playing weight, but they don't want him to lose a bunch of weight and suffers an injury in camp because of it.

Bills | Karlos Williams not masking injury    Wed Jun 15, 02:20 AM

Updating previous reports, Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams said he isn't dealing with an injury, and he developed bad eating habits with his pregnant fiance this offseason. 'I like to eat and then her being pregnant gave me an excuse to eat, so eating anything and everything,' Williams said. 'She's getting back to working out herself, so kind of motivating each other, feed off each other's energy, and we're getting ready for camp.'

Footballguys view: Ah, the old "my pregnant wife made me eat badly" excuse. We've actually seen a fair amount of backs add on too much weight after the first year or two, so this isn't a surprise. However, with LeSean McCoy already nursing an injury, the Bills need Williams on point. He could be a solid RB2 if McCoy gets hurt, otherwise he will only contribute as an RB3. Unless the weight won't come off in which case he could slip behind rookie Jonathan Williams--a favorite RB of ours from this draft class.

Bills | Karlos Williams overweight    Tue Jun 14, 08:58 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams showed up overweight for organized team activities and minicamp this offseason. He'll need to shed some of that weight before the Bills are content with the shape he's in. Williams worked with strength and conditioning coach Eric Ciano following positional drills in the Bills' first practice of minicamp. Head coach Rex Ryan said Williams isn't close to where he needs to be to play at a high level.

Footballguys view: The Bills are jam-packed at the RB position, and if Williams is not careful he will lose the backup spot behind LeSean McCoy. We're excited about rookie RB Jonathan Williams (Arkansas), and we'll be monitoring him closely in the competition to establish a pecking order behind McCoy.

Bills | Karlos Williams questionable     Sun Jan 3, 02:19 PM

Bills | Karlos Williams scores touchdown    Sun Dec 27, 06:02 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams rushed for 76 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 16. He also caught two passes for 21 yards during the game.

Footballguys view: Williams touchdown-scoring knack from early season is back, but the Jets playing for their lives next week is not a great recipe for a big Week 17 game.

Bills | Karlos Williams, Anthony Dixon probable    Fri Dec 25, 07:17 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams (shoulder) and RB Anthony Dixon (knee) are listed as probable for the Week 16 game against the Dallas Cowboys. Williams was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 25, while Dixon fully participated in practice.

Footballguys view: Karlos Williams is an upside flex if not an RB2 because the Dallas Cowboys are unlikely to control this game with a very undermanned offense.

Bills | Karlos Williams up in the air    Fri Dec 18, 02:31 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams (shoulder) was limited in practice all week and is questionable against the Washington Redskins in Week 15.

Footballguys view: Williams will only serve as a change of pace back from LeSean McCoy if he does play, but this at least makes him rosterable on the potential Week 16 value if his condition improves and McCoy gets hurt this week.

Bills | Karlos Williams limited    Thu Dec 17, 05:23 PM

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams (shoulder) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 17.

Footballguys view: We expect LeSean McCoy to get most of the work regardless of what Williams' status is. McCoy should be a high end RB2 but Williams is a nice deep flex as a low end RB3 as he consistently gets touchdowns even on minimal touches. That being said, it's risky because he won't give you much points without the touchdown.
