NFL | Mark Sanchez retires    Tue Jul 23, 11:24 AM

Free-agent QB Mark Sanchez (Redskins) retired from the NFL Tuesday, July 23, and will take a job with ESPN.

Footballguys view: Sanchez was a first-round pick out of USC in the 2009 NFL draft. He had early success with the Jets, taking his team to the AFC Championship in the first two years of his career. It was all downhill for Sanchez after that and he never recovered from the embarrassing 'butt fumble' on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2012, between the New York Jets and New England Patriots.

Panthers | Carolina could target veteran QB in FA    Mon Feb 11, 12:35 AM

The Carolina Panthers could seek a veteran backup to QB Cam Newton in free agency, in the opinion of ESPN's David Newton, who lists soon-to-be free-agent QBs Brock Osweiler (Dolphins), Trevor Siemian (Vikings), Tyrod Taylor (Browns), Ryan Fitzpatrick (Buccaneers), Sean Mannion (Rams) and Mark Sanchez (Redskins) as options they could consider.

Redskins | Mark Sanchez lands in Washington    Mon Nov 19, 01:23 PM

Free-agent QB Mark Sanchez (Bears) will reportedly sign an undisclosed contract with the Washington Redskins on Monday, Nov. 19.

Footballguys view: Washington didn't have any other quarterbacks on their roster or on their practice squad other than Alex Smith and Colt McCoy. With Smith (leg) done for the year, Washington turns to McCoy as their starter.

Redskins | Several QBs to work out for Washington    Mon Nov 19, 08:47 AM

Free-agent QBs EJ Manuel (Raiders), Kellen Clemens (Chargers), Mark Sanchez (Bears), Josh Johnson (Raiders) and T.J. Yates (Texans) will work out for the Washington Redskins.

Footballguys view: Washington has to add a quarterback to the roster with Alex Smith done for the year. Colt McCoy is the only passer they have on the active roster and they don't even have another quarterback on the practice squad.

NFL | Mark Sanchez suspended    Fri Apr 13, 05:11 PM

Free-agent QB Mark Sanchez (Bears) has been suspended for the first four games of the 2018 season for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Footballguys view: This isn't going to help his chances of latching on with a new team. Sanchez spent last year as the no.3 QB in Chicago and will be looking for a spot with a new team later in the season. He says a supplement mix up caused the hot test.

Seahawks | Seattle looking at Mark Sanchez?    Thu Mar 29, 10:53 PM

Free-agent QB Mark Sanchez (Bears) is a potential candidate to fill the backup quarterback role for the Seattle Seahawks.

Footballguys view: The Seahawks are also looking at Geno Smith. Neither Sanchez or Smith is anything to write home about, but both are the veteran depth behind Russell Wilson that Seattle needs.

Bears | Mark Sanchez dropped to No. 3    Wed Sep 6, 05:55 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mark Sanchez will open the regular season as the team's No. 3 quarterback behind starting QB Mike Glennon and rookie QB Mitchell Trubisky.

Footballguys view: He'll hold a clipboard for now and give the team veteran depth. We wouldn't be surprised to see Sanchez dropped altogether when the reins are handed over to Trubisky.

Bears | Mitchell Trubisky running second-team    Wed Jun 7, 02:38 AM

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky has been running the second-team offense since QB Mark Sanchez (knee) injured his knee last week. With Sanchez not expected back until training camp, Trubisky is set to continue in the role during next week's mandatory minicamp.

Footballguys view: The rookie first-round pick should see a lot of action with the second team while Sanchez recovers. By the time Sanchez is back, Trubisky may have the primary backup role behind Mike Glennon sewed up.

Bears | Mark Sanchez hurts knee    Tue May 30, 05:51 PM

Chicago Bears QB Mark Sanchez (knee) injured his left knee during organized team activities Tuesday, May 30.

Footballguys view: This injury just means more reps for Mitchell Trubisky and Mike Glennon. We should see Glennon as the starter, but Trubisky is clearly the QB of the future. Sanchez is expected to return for the start of training camp.

Bears | One-year deal for Mark Sanchez    Thu Mar 23, 09:48 PM

Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears QB Mark Sanchez's deal is for one year. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Sanchez is no lock for the 53-man roster. He'll serve as a veteran backup behind newly acquired Mike Glennon. Expect the Bears to add a QB via the 2017 NFL draft too....maybe with a premium pick.

Bears | Chicago adding Mark Sanchez    Thu Mar 23, 09:08 PM

Free-agent QB Mark Sanchez (Cowboys) is finalizing a deal with the Chicago Bears Thursday, March 23, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Sanchez is an all right backup, but the former USC quarterback is a long way from a starter. At most, he's the Bears' reliable backup to Mike Glennon and if they have to break the glass to bring him out, things will be very grim.

Bears | Mark Sanchez visiting Bears Thursday    Tue Mar 21, 11:54 PM

Free-agent QB Mark Sanchez (Cowboys) will visit the Chicago Bears Thursday, March 23.

Footballguys view: The Bears signed Mike Glennon to be their starting quarterback earlier this offseason. They lost Matt Barkley (49ers) in free agency, so they're looking for a backup. If added, Sanchez would give them veteran depth behind Glennon.

Cowboys | Mark Sanchez likely to see bulk of snaps    Fri Dec 30, 09:15 AM

Dallas Cowboys QB Mark Sanchez is expected to receive the bulk of the snaps in Week 17.

Footballguys view: Dak Prescott will start, and even Tony Romo is supposed to get a little bit of playing time in Week 17. Sanchez will play most of the game in a meaningless contest as Dallas has the no.1 seed in the NFC wrapped up.

Cowboys | Tony Romo to see action    Fri Dec 30, 08:12 AM

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo is expected to see action in Week 17. QB Dak Prescott will start the game, and QB Mark Sanchez will also see playing time, but the amount hasn't been determined.

Footballguys view: Romo gets to play, but how much is a mystery. We can't see him playing that much, but the team wants to knock some rust off his game just in case they need to go to him in the postseason.

Cowboys | Mark Sanchez should see most snaps    Thu Dec 29, 06:28 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Mark Sanchez is expected to receive most of the snaps at quarterback in Week 17, according to a source.

Footballguys view: We're not hitching a ride with the Sanchize this time out. It's not a horrible matchup, but Dallas has nothing to play for and who knows how long any of the key starters will play. The Eagles are stingy on touchdowns through the air as well. Look elsewhere for quarterback help this week.

Cowboys | Mark Sanchez expected to play    Thu Dec 29, 03:34 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Mark Sanchez will be active for the team's Week 17 game and is expected to play once the team decides to take QB Dak Prescott out of the game.

Footballguys view: This makes it impossible to confidently play either guy as Prescott could be in for one snap, one quarter or the whole game, which means Sanchez might be in a lot or not at all. Go with a quarterback we know will be in the whole game.
