Packers | Aaron Rodgers agrees to reworked deal    Thu Jul 29, 04:42 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers agreed to terms on a restructured contract with the Packers Thursday, July 29, according to a source. Terms of the reworked deal were not disclosed.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers reports    Tue Jul 27, 10:01 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers arrived at training camp Tuesday, July 27.

Footballguys view: The Rodgers drama this offseason had Packers fans on the edge of their seat, and it had Broncos fans getting hopeful. In the end, Rodgers returns for one more season and then things will be reassessed before 2022. This is his "last dance" (most likely) with Green Bay, and it could end with a run at the Super Bowl.

Packers | More movement in Aaron Rodgers saga?    Mon Jul 26, 03:53 PM

Updating previous reports, Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and the team are reportedly close to an agreement that would bring him back to Green Bay for at least this season, according to multiple sources via ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers likely to play in 2021    Mon Jul 26, 01:22 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has reportedly indicated to 'people close to him' that he intends to play this season, according to sources via NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: This ties in with "The Last Dance" picture of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen that both Rodgers and Davante Adams posted to their Instagram feeds over the weekend. It now seems that Rodgers is back for one more season in Green Bay as they refuse to trade him despite receiving calls about the superstar quarterback. Adams cut off contract talks and has one year left on his contract now before hitting free agency in 2022. It seems like this could be "The Last Dance" for Rodgers and Adams in Green Bay this season. Stay tuned.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers wants out or deal shortened    Fri Jul 23, 10:28 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers wants to be traded or have years taken off of his contract that includes three seasons at $33.5 million per year, according to an NFC personnel executive. 'He wants to get some sort of deal done,' an NFC personnel executive said. 'But, he wants years off his deal, so he can pull a Tom Brady and be the next guy to try to go elsewhere to win a championship.'

Footballguys view: This at least opens the possibility of Rodgers playing a full season for Green Bay as long as they let him get out of his contract that runs through 2023. Whether he would settle for just 2023 being shaved off, or wants out after this year is unknown, and we can't totally trust this report, but it does jive with a report earlier this week that Rodgers turned down a two-year extension/raise that would have kept him in Green Bay for the next five years as the highest paid player in the game.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers was offered extension    Tue Jul 20, 11:33 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was offered a two-year extension earlier in the offseason that would have tied him to the Packers five more years and made him the highest-paid player in football. Rodgers declined the offer.

Footballguys view: It's hard to know what will fix this situation from Rodgers perspective, but it doesn't appear money is the answer. It was rumored that he wanted general manager Brian Gutekunst removed, which is not likely a move the Packers are willing to make. The next big moment in this saga is July 27, when veteran players are supposed to report to Packers camp. If Rodgers doesn't report, the already depressed values of Aaron Jones, Robert Tonyan, and Davante Adams, will slide more.

Packers | QB Rodgers Timeline Only Prolongs Story    Mon Jul 12, 01:00 PM

Mike Florio, from Pro Football Talk, writes about how Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers timeline to make a decision on his playing future only prolongs the story.

Footballguys view: Last week at yet another golf tournament, Rodgers was asked about his future...again. This time we did get a bit more information from the superstar quarterback. Rodgers said he plans to resume working out soon and will take a few weeks to decide on his future. When the Packers begin training camp at the end of July, Rodgers may not be there. That might not be enough to force their hand and get them to trade him away. This ugly situation is far from over, so stay tuned.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers to make decision soon    Sun Jul 11, 04:09 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said he plans to resume working out soon and will take a few weeks to decide on his future.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. We are a couple of weeks from the start of training camp at the end of the month. If Rodgers stays away from training camp, perhaps the Packers will break and trade him away. This could be resolved soon, this could drag into the regular season...nobody seems to know at this point. If Rodgers is traded, expect the Denver Broncos to break the bank to get him.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers not expected to opt out    Sun Jun 27, 01:30 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers likely will not opt out before the July 2 deadline, according to a source.

Footballguys view: It was an interesting scenario to discuss, but highly unlikely is the correct way to characterize it. This situation will remain unresolved at least through the open of camp on July 27, and it will be a wonderful surprise for Packers fans if it doesn't stretch well into August, if not into the season.

Packers | Opt-out could affect Aaron Rodgers    Fri Jun 25, 09:34 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has the option to sit out of the entire 2021 season without forfeiting $11.5 million in unearned signing bonus money and likely the $6.8 million roster bonus he earned in March. The letter agreement between the NFL and NFL Players grants broad powers to all players to opt out of the 2021 season, regardless of whether they opted out in 2020 or whether they have been diagnosed with a higher-risk condition since Oct. 1. He would have to do so, and it's a final decision, by July 2. If he doesn't opt out but holds out, he loses that $18.3 million -- and would be fined roughly $2 million on top of it for skipping training camp.

Footballguys view: If Rodgers does this, it will give us clarity on the Packers 2021 quarterback and offense, but still won't resolve the larger situation. It's not impossible, but we wouldn't any movement in this situation until at least the open of training camp. The Packers, like 28 other teams, will report to camp on July 27. The Cowboys, Steelers and Bucs are the only teams with the possibility of a different opening date.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers absent    Tue Jun 8, 11:08 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers wasn't present at the first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, June 8. He's officially holding out.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Rodgers is staying away because he doesn't want to play for the Packers anymore. The team is trying to do what they can to keep him, and they'll be putting together another new contract offer for the superstar quarterback to try and convince him to stay. Rodgers is a man of his convictions, so this isn't likely to be solved with a paycheck - no matter how large that sum is. This holdout could go into training camp...and maybe beyond that, unless the Packers break down and decide to trade him.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers may not be fined    Mon Jun 7, 05:52 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers can be fined up to $93,085 if he decides to skip the mandatory minicamp this week, but the Packers have considered issuing him an excused absence and not fine him.

Footballguys view: The Packers could have beat Rodgers to the punch to try and save face in this situation. Instead, reports have already come out about Rodgers skipping mandatory minicamp. They might just give him an excused absence anyway to try and patch things up.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers unlikely to report    Mon Jun 7, 11:52 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is unlikely to report to mandatory minicamp this week, but the rest of the team is expected to attend.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Rodgers has dug his heels in, and the Packers insist they're not going to trade him. With him expected to miss mandatory minicamp, Rodgers will get fined $93,000 for his absence. Expect this to go into training camp as well unless and until the Packers realize they have to trade him.

Packers | Top Packers receivers sit out OTAs    Tue May 25, 08:13 PM

Green Bay Packers WRs Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Lazard, Devin Funchess and Equanimeous St. Brown were absent from organized team activities, along with QB Aaron Rodgers Tuesday, May 25. No reason was disclosed. Sophomore QB Jordan Love was left to run drills with a makeshift receiving group, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Footballguys view: The workouts are voluntary, but this does seem like a move of solidarity for their quarterback. Rodgers is disgruntled with the Packers front office and there are plenty of rumblings about him getting traded away - even though the team doesn't want to. If the Packers realize nothing is going to make him change his mind, then perhaps they look to trade Rodgers after June 1st (when the salary cap hit would be lower).

Packers | Aaron Rodgers speaks on trade situation    Tue May 25, 08:15 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said the situation with the Packers is not because of the coaching staff or using a first-round pick on QB Jordan Love last year. 'It's never been about the draft pick, picking Jordan,' Rodgers said. 'I love Jordan; he's a great kid. I love the coaching staff. I love my teammates. I love the fan base in GB. It's just about a philosophy and maybe forgetting it is about the people that make things go.'

Footballguys view: Rodgers praised everyone with the Packers...except the front office. There's a situation that has been brewing for some time and we could see that come to a head in early June. After June 1st, that's when the Packers can trade Rodgers with a lower cap hit. That's if they decide to trade him at that time. The team wants to do whatever they can to convince Rodgers to stay but they may not be able to do that. The Broncos are waiting in the wings, ready to make a blockbuster move for Rodgers if he becomes available.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers skipping workouts    Mon May 24, 01:44 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers did not report for the start of offseason workouts Monday, May 24.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Rodgers is disgruntled and there's plenty of buzz about him being traded after June 1st. The Packers are trying to patch things up, and that could include getting him a new contract in the near future. Rumors about them making offers have been out there for some time but nothing is concrete just yet. If nothing can be done and he must be traded, look for the Broncos to show the most interest.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers doesn't report to voluntaries    Mon May 24, 11:49 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers didn't report to voluntary workouts Monday, May 24.

Footballguys view: The workouts are voluntary, and the Rodgers situation has not yet been resolved. He's unhappy with his current situation and the Packers are working diligently to make it work with him. That could include a new contract, but if that can't work then after June 1st the team could trade him away. The Broncos are the most likely destination if Rodgers is dealt.

Packers | Coach: Aaron Rodgers wanted    Fri May 14, 02:17 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has been the subject of rampant trade speculation since reports surfaced in late April that he wants out of Green Bay. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Friday, May 14, that there's 'nothing new to add' about the situation. 'We obviously still feel the same way,' LaFleur added. 'We want him back in the worst way. He knows that.'

Footballguys view: The Packers are trying their best to mend fences with Rodgers. There are rumblings that the team is working on a new contract that could make him the highest paid quarterback in the league. Jordan Love is not ready to take over as the team's starter and Rodgers is still playing at an elite level. Expect the Packers to make the strongest push possible to see if Rodgers will want to stay. June 1st is when his cap hit is greatly reduced in a trade, so that's a target date in this situation. Stay on the edge of your seat and stay tuned.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers engaged in talks    Tue May 11, 09:55 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers' side has engaged in contract discussions with the Packers to a degree, and the Packers have made a significant long-term offer.

Footballguys view: The Packers are doing what they can to make Rodgers happy. We'll see if this significant offer is what Rodgers wanted in the first place. Earlier reports speculated the team had offered an extension for Rodgers but that wasn't to his liking. The damage may already have been done by now, but Green Bay isn't going to just give up (nor should they). This saga continues until the Packers get him an offer he likes or they trade him away (if they do it would have to be after June 1st).

Broncos | Denver real possibility for Aaron Rodgers    Mon May 10, 11:24 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers could realistically land with the Denver Broncos, who have the second-most salary cap space in football.

Footballguys view: The Broncos are going to make a strong push for Rodgers if/when the Packers decide they won't be able to patch things up between the two sides. After June 1st, the salary cap hit for trading away Rodgers is lowered dramatically so that's a target date for a team like the Broncos to try to make a move. With the Broncos defense and weapons on offense, they could be a Super Bowl contender if they're able to pull off a deal for Rodgers.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers considering retirement?    Fri Apr 30, 05:09 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers will consider retirement if his situation with the Packers is not repaired to his liking, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Both sides seem dug in, and there is no end to this in sight. Rodgers doesn't want to play for the Packers anymore. The Packers don't want to trade Rodgers at this time. Rodgers would have to repay the Packers $23 million if he retires.

Broncos | Aaron Rodgers going to Denver?    Fri Apr 30, 08:39 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is close to being traded to the Denver Broncos, according to 104.3 The Fan's Mark Schlereth. 'It's about as close to a done deal as can happen,' Schlereth said. 'Now it could fall through, but I've been told by a very reliable source that this thing is going down.' Schlereth wasn't told of any compensation.

Footballguys view: We'll see if the Broncos can pull this off. With Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock at quarterback, they need a serious upgrade which obviously Rodgers would provide. This team won a Super Bowl with an aging Peyton Manning in 2015, and they could make a Super Bowl run or two...or more with a 37-year old Rodgers. Stay tuned.

Packers | Green Bay won't trade Aaron Rodgers    Fri Apr 30, 01:06 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers will not be traded, according to GM Brian Gutekunst in remarks made following Round 1 of the NFL Draft on Thursday, April 29. Gutekunst added that Rodgers is 'our quarterback' and 'our leader,' though he also said that it 'may take some time' to work through the current differences between Rodgers and the team.

Footballguys view: Everyone has a price. They won't trade Rodgers now...but he doesn't want to be there, and there are only a handful of teams he wants to go to - a list that was made smaller on Day 1 of the 2021 NFL draft. According to PFT, Rodgers wanted to be traded to either the Broncos, Raiders or 49ers. With the 49ers selected Trey Lance to be their quarterback of the future they may be out. That leaves the option of moving Rodgers to the AFC West. We'll see if that happens.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers does not want to return?    Thu Apr 29, 03:28 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has told some people within the organization that he does not want to return to the Packers, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Rodgers has been unhappy with the team for some time. When they selected QB Jordan Love in the first round last year, and not a much-needed wide receiver, that seemed to make him angry and fueled him to an MVP season. Now, Rodgers seems to be forcing his way out of Green Bay. Stay tuned.

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was the subject of a trade inquiry Wednesday, April 28, made by the San Francisco 49ers, but no formal offer was extended. A source added that there is 'zero percent chance' that Rodgers is traded this offseason.

Footballguys view: The 49ers are on a short list of where Rodgers wants to go. According to PFT, Rodgers wants to be traded to the 49ers, Broncos or Raiders. We'll see if that "zero percent chance" actually is more around 100 percent.

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers threw for a league-high 1,242 yards on passes that traveled at least 20 yards, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: That's what Rodgers does, and he'll continue to do so in 2021. The play-action passing the Packers implement open things up down the field and Rodgers has no hesitation when it comes to attacking a defense.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers talks GB future    Sat Apr 3, 02:39 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers reiterated recently that he remains uncertain about his future with the franchise. 'So far, (the Packers have) definitely been my team,' Rodgers told ESPN in a video interview posted Friday, April 2. 'I said last year I didn't know if that was actually possible to be able to finish (my career with Green Bay). I still feel like that's kind of where we're at. I don't that a lot of that is in my hands, but ... we'll kind of see as we go. Like I said last year, these things are just out of my control. The team has obviously the power to do what they want. My job is just to play as well as I can. I think there may have been ideas about what certain things meant last year; I just focus on my play.'

Footballguys view: Rodgers was motivated last year when the Packers selected QB Jordan Love in the first round. Love was not close to pushing for even the backup job and will continue to develop behind Rodgers. With Rodgers showing no signs of slowing down, the Packers will have a tough decision as the future Hall of Famer is signed through 2023.

The team needs help on both sides of the ball and Rodgers could help them out with a reworked deal. He's on the books for around $37.5 million in 2021 and there is around $31.5 million remaining in dead money. 'There's no doubt about it. You're talking about the guy who's going to win the MVP of the league. We're not in this position without him.'

Footballguys view: Rodgers was disappointed after the Packers were bounced from the playoffs. That led people to start speculating that Rodgers would ask for a trade. At this point, it seems like that's not going to happen. We'll see if the Rodgers gets some help via the 2021 NFL draft.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers unlikely to leave Green Bay    Tue Jan 26, 03:48 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is almost certain to remain with the team in 2021, according to comments made by team president and chief executive officer Mark Murphy on Tuesday, Jan. 26.'I'll say this: There's no way in heck that Aaron is not going to be on the Packers. I mean, he is going to be the MVP of the league, might have had his best year ever. He's our unquestioned leader and, you know, we're not idiots,' Murphy told WNFL Radio.

Footballguys view: Things seem cold right now between Rodgers and the Packers, but that might not really be the case. Rodgers kind of softened some of his comments in a recent interview with Pat Mcafee. He's too important to that team and those fans, so we have a feeling things will stay in place. Let's see if the future changes that.

Packers | Green Bay falls in NFC title game    Sun Jan 24, 06:24 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers completed 33-of-48 passes for 346 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the NFC Championship Game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. RB Aaron Jones, who left the game early due to injury, left the team with 27 yards on six rushes. RB Jamaal Williams ran seven times for 23 yards and added four receptions for 22 yards. WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling led the way with a game-high 115 yards on four receptions and a score, while WR Davante Adams had nine grabs for 67 yards and a score on 15 targets. WR Allen Lazard checked in with three receptions for 62 yards, while TE Marcedes Lewis had three grabs for 28 yards. TE Robert Tonyan also checked in with four grabs, 22 yards and a score. CB Jaire Alexander led the way with two interceptions, while totaling three total tackles and three passes defensed.

Footballguys view: Rodgers had a lot of chances to take control of this game in the second half after his team fell behind 18 points, but the Packers offense wasn't good enough in the red zone and Matt LaFleur chose to kick a field goal instead of going for it on fourth and goal at the 8, down 8 with about two minutes left. Jones has probably played his last down as a Packer, and Williams is also a free agent. Valdes-Scantling had a big game after playing only one snap the NFC title game last year. Adams impact on the game was not as big as expected and if anything Rodgers overreliance on him in the red zone hurt the team. The Packers will go back to the drawing board after getting one game from the Super Bowl two years in a row.
