NFL | Adrian Peterson wants to play    Fri Jul 16, 05:18 PM

Free-agent RB Adrian Peterson (Lions) said he has been working out and is waiting for a team to sign him. He said his body feels good and is ready to play in 2021.

Footballguys view: Peterson might not be on a roster to start the season, but his tried and true ability to handle a heavy workload and put stress on a defense will likely get him calls during the season when teams are looking at playing inexperienced players in the backfield because of injuries.

NFL | Adrian Peterson feeling fit, ready    Fri Jul 16, 01:04 PM

Free agent RB Adrian Peterson says he's fit and is ready to go as he awaits a call from an NFL team. 'The training is going well and I'm going to control the things that I can control right now, and, when that time comes, somebody will give me a call,' Peterson said in an interview Thursday, July 15. 'That's all I'm asking for. My body feels good. I came out healthy from last season. My body feels strong. I still feel young. I still feel good. I'm ready to play ball.'

Footballguys view: Peterson is just patiently waiting for a team to show interest. The veteran can still play and produce if called upon, and there should be somebody out there who wants to pick him up. Perhaps when injuries hit in training camp and the preseason we'll see a team pick up Peterson. He's looking for a contender to join as a role player.

Lions | Adrian Peterson set for another year in Detroit?    Thu Feb 4, 03:09 PM

Detroit Lions RB Adrian Peterson is set to become a free agent at the end of the league year, but fellow RB D'Andre Swift has made it clear he would like to see the soon-to-be 36-year-old return to the team for another year.'I definitely want him back,' Swift told CBS Sports while noting that he 'picked (Peterson's) brain' throughout his rookie year.

Footballguys view: The Lions are going to run the ball early and often. With QB Jared Goff under center, expect new offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn to set up the rushing attack to be the primary feature in the offense. That means plenty of work for Swift, but keeping a guy like Peterson would make sense too.

Lions | Detroit's offense strong in loss    Sun Jan 3, 05:29 PM

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford went 20-for-31 for 293 yards, three touchdowns and one interception against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17. RB Adrian Peterson rushed for 63 yards and one touchdown on seven carries, while RB D'Andre Swift rushed for 54 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries. WR Marvin Jones caught eight passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns on 11 targets, while WR Quintez Cephus caught two passes for 51 yards and one touchdown on three targets.

Footballguys view: Stafford looked great despite playing with a myriad of injuries. He should be on the trade market as the Lions look to the future in a rebuilding moment. They'll hire a new head coach and general manager this offseason and Stafford is probably at the very end of his prime. Jones will also be a free agent and can still start elsewhere.

Detroit Lions RB Adrian Peterson rushed 16 times for 57 yards and two touchdowns in Week 13 against the Chicago Bears and he did not have a catch on one target.

Lions | Adrian Peterson struggles in Week 11    Sun Nov 22, 04:26 PM

Detroit Lions RB Adrian Peterson rushed for 18 yards on seven carries against the Carolina Panthers in Week 11.

Footballguys view: The Panthers had been surrendering some huge fantasy games to running backs this year, but the Lions run blocking could not open any holes for Peterson. He's only a deep desperation play against the Texans even if D'Andre Swift isn't cleared to play.

Detroit Lions RBs Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson are expected to split carries for Week 11's game versus the Carolina Panthers, with Peterson serving as the starter.

Footballguys view: Peterson still has a high ceiling because of the suspect Panthers run defense and his ability to get in a groove when he is fed. Johnson has a little what the heck flex appeal in PPR leagues.

  Lions | D'Andre Swift's role growing    Tue Nov 10, 11:02 PM

Detroit Lions RB D'Andre Swift has played more snaps than RB Adrian Peterson in each of the last three games.

Footballguys view: Let's see if that trend continues for the Lions. Swift is the best back they have on their roster and he can damage a defense as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. Fantasy GMs can look to Swift as a RB2 or flex play.

Lions | Adrian Peterson to stay top dog?    Tue Sep 29, 10:23 PM

Detroit Lions RB Adrian Peterson will continue to see a heavy workload, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said Tuesday, Sept. 29. 'He wants the ball, we want him to have it, and we'll just keep continuing to go there,' Bevell said.

Footballguys view: Peterson can grind down an opponent and when he builds a head of steam the veteran can still rip off some big runs. He doesn't do much in the passing game, so his role is game-script dependent. If the Lions have the lead or the game is close, then Peterson should get a heavy workload. If they fall behind and have to pass more then Peterson's role should be limited.

Lions | Detroit makes it official with Adrian Peterson    Mon Sep 7, 01:50 PM

Detroit Lions RB Adrian Peterson officially signed his one-year contract worth a reported $1.05 million plus incentives Monday, Sept. 7. RB Bo Scarbrough (undisclosed) was placed on the Reserved/Injured list in a corresponding move.

Footballguys view: It's officially official now and Peterson is here to give the Lions veteran depth at the position. With rookie D'Andre Swift banged up, Peterson should get work behind starter Kerryon Johnson. With Johnson's injury history, it's a good idea to get Peterson decent work so the starter can stay fresh.

Lions | Detroit expected to sign Adrian Peterson    Sun Sep 6, 09:16 AM

Free-agent RB Adrian Peterson (Washington) is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions, according to multiple sources.

Footballguys view: Peterson is reunited with Lions OC Darrell Bevel from their days together with the Vikings. He'll work into the mix with Kerryon Johnson and rookie D'Andre Swift (when Swift is healthy). Peterson keeps proving that he can still be a capable runner entering his 14th NFL season.

NFL | Adrian Peterson receiving interest    Fri Sep 4, 01:39 PM

Free agent RB Adrian Peterson has received interest from a 'couple of teams' hours after being released by the Washington Football Team on Friday, Sept. 4, according to a league source.

Football Team | Adrian Peterson released    Fri Sep 4, 09:29 AM

Washington Football Team RB Adrian Peterson was released Friday, Sept. 4.

Footballguys view: A bit of a surprise here. Washington has a jam-packed backfield but Peterson was having a solid camp and he's a seasoned veteran who can still be productive as a runner. The move saves the team close to $2.5 million against the cap. Peterson will get plenty of interest on the open market and Washington moves forward with Antonio Gibson, Bryce Love, Peyton Barber and J.D. McKissic.

Redskins | Adrian Peterson wants to play four more    Wed Jun 24, 10:24 AM

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson, 35, said he hopes to play four more years in the NFL. 'I don't want to ever be in a position where I look back and say, 'Man, I should have played two more years,'' Peterson told TMZ Sports. ''I should have played another year.' I want to enjoy it. I'm still chasing a championship. You know, I still can play the game at a high level. For those reasons, and having that love and passion for the game, I'm going to continue to keep the ball rolling.'

Footballguys view: There is zero reason to doubt Peterson other than Father Time is undefeated. Peterson has proven time and time again that he can still be a consistent and strong runner. Washington has an even more jam-packed backfield this year with guys returning from injury (Derrius Guice, Bryce Love), additions in free agency (J.D. McKissic, Peyton Barber) and the draft (Antonio Gibson). Who knows how much of a role Peterson will have this year, but don't ever count him out.

Redskins | Some clarity in Washington backfield?    Wed Jun 17, 10:33 PM

Washington Redskins RBs Adrian Peterson and Derrius Guice will likely split carries to begin the season, while RB J.D. McKissic serves as the third-down back, according to Kyle Stackpole of the team's website. Stackpole also expects RB Antonio Gibson to be used 'in all sorts of different plays and formations.' However, he's not sure what kind of role would be left for RB Bryce Love.

Footballguys view: That's a little bit of clarity in a jumbled situation. This is a three-headed RBBC with Antonio Gibson working as a RB/WR to make it four mouths to feed at the position. It's good for Washington but bad for Fantasy GMs trying to navigate this jam-packed room.

Redskins | Adrian Peterson still running strong    Tue Jun 9, 10:56 PM

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson compiled a broken tackle percentage - the total number of broken tackles on rushing attempts divided by the number of carries - of 17.1 in 2019, marking the third consecutive year he has reached or topped that mark.

Footballguys view: Peterson looks like his old self on the football field. He has the size/speed combination that makes him tough to bring down once he builds a head of steam. Washington has a jam-packed backfield but there is still a role for Peterson, one that would make him a RB5 for Fantasy GMs.

Redskins | Adrian Peterson will have a role    Wed May 27, 07:54 PM

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson will have a role in the offense this upcoming season, according to offensive coordinator Scott Turner.

Footballguys view: Peterson will have the role of lead back if Derrius Guice cannot stay healthy again. If Guice is able to stay healthy, then Peterson gives the team some power as a part-time back who would work in short-yardage and goal-line situations.

Redskins | Adrian Peterson could see reduced workload    Sat May 23, 10:18 AM

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson is likely to see a reduced workload in 2020, due to the offseason acquisitions of RBs Peyton Barber and J.D. McKissic, the selection of RB/WR Antonio Gibson in the draft and the returns of RBs Derrius Guice and Bryce Love from knee injuries. However, there is a possibility that the Redskins could have multiple running backs on the field at the same time, based on early Zoom meetings Peterson has had with the coaching staff.

Footballguys view: Peterson brings plenty of power to the Washington backfield, something most of the other backs listed do not have. This is a talented group of running backs if they're all healthy, and it will be interesting to see who emerges from the cluster. From a fantasy perspective, this Washington RBBC is going to be problematic to predict.

Redskins | Stacked fronts no issue for Adrian Peterson    Thu May 21, 11:27 PM

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson finished in a tie for fifth with Frank Gore among running backs with 61 rushing attempts against defenses with eight or more defenders in the box in 2019, according to ESPN's Matt Bowen. Peterson averaged 5.31 yards per carry on those attempts - the fourth-best mark in the league by a running back.

Footballguys view: That's what Peterson does best. He is inevitable when it comes to crashing through the line of scrimmage. Peterson should be the same player in 2020, although Washington's backfield will continue to feature Derrius Guice and should also have rookie RB Antonio Gibson mixed in.

Redskins | Adrian Peterson returning    Wed Feb 19, 11:31 AM

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson's option was exercised by the team Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Footballguys view: Peterson is going to be 35-years old this year but new head coach Ron Rivers wants him around for his leadership ability. He led Washington in rushing last year but Peterson will provide veteran depth behind Derrius Guice in 2020. If Guice gets banged up, again, then Peterson can take over in a two-down role.
