Saints | Three RBs on Saints' roster Wed Mar 4, 07:29 PM
Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Pierre Thomas' (Saints) release by the New Orleans Saints Wednesday, March 4, will save $1.735 million against the salary cap, and he carries an $830,000 'dead money' charge. Thomas would have counted $2.565 million against the salary cap this year. The Saints currently have three running backs on roster: RBs Khiry Robinson, Edwin Baker and Tim Hightower. RBs Travaris Cadet and Mark Ingram are both scheduled to be free agents.
Footballguys view: With the moves at running back, Robinson is the player that benefits the most in the Saints backfield. He needs to stay healthy, but Robinson has the natural ability to be a quality starter and a 1,000-yard rusher. |

Footballguys view: There's a few teams in need of a running back across the league now. Baker isn't a stud, but he's a servicable player who might get some calls. |

Saints | One cut, one promoted Sat Oct 25, 06:19 PM
The New Orleans Saints released TE Tom Crabtree Saturday, Oct. 25. RB Edwin Baker was promoted to the 53-man roster in his place.
Footballguys view: Baker is added to the active roster because both Khiry Robinson and Pierre Thomas are banged up. |

Saints | Edwin Baker added to PS Tue Sep 16, 06:47 PM
The New Orleans Saints added free-agent RB Edwin Baker (Browns) to their practice squad Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Footballguys view: Baker has a strong lower body, and he can grind defenses down between the tackles. The Saints need more bodies at the running back position with Mark Ingram out for a few weeks with a broken hand. |
Browns | Make roster moves Mon Aug 25, 09:25 PM
The Cleveland Browns placed OG Jeremiah Warren, OG Ryan Lee, CB Royce Adams, CB T.J. Heath, WR Tim Smith, WR, Anthony Armstrong, TE Martell Webb, TE Keavon Milton, DE Cam Henderson, LB Caleb McSurdy and LB Keith Pough on no-recall waivers Monday, Aug. 25. OT Randall Harris and WR Jonathan Krause were waived with a waived/injured designation, and RB Edwin Baker was waived with an injury settlement designation.
Footballguys view: Baker had some decent moments last season, but Dion Lewis beat him out for the #3 running back job. His name could surface again in the future. |

Browns | Edwin Baker performing well Sat Jun 28, 05:36 PM
Cleveland Browns RB Edwin Baker has had some good moments in spring practices and seems to be ahead of RB Chris Ogbonnaya in the pecking order. Ogbonnaya may be used mostly on special teams.
Footballguys view: Baker has a strong lower body and does a good job grinding his legs after contact. He'll be third string at best this year for the Browns behind starter Ben Tate, veteran Dion Lewis and rookie Terrance West. Rookie Isaiah Crowell could be the in the mix as well. |

Browns | Edwin Baker shines Wed May 21, 10:13 PM
Cleveland Browns RB Edwin Baker showed off quickness during organized team activities (OTAs) Wednesday, May 21.
Footballguys view: Baker will be in a dogfight just to make the roster with all of the additions at running back this offseason, but he showed enough last year to think that he'll catch on with another team if he keeps this up. |

Browns | Edwin Baker could see more playing time Mon Dec 16, 04:35 PM
Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said the coaching staff will discuss the possibility of giving RB Edwin Baker more playing time.
Footballguys view: Baker did a fine job in Week 15 with an increased role, and he certainly earned a longer look. He has a strong lower body and a nose for the end zone. Fantasy owners should avoid the Browns' RB corps if at all possible. However, deep dynasty league owners need to add Baker to their rosters and see what happens. |

Browns | Make roster moves Tue Dec 10, 04:40 PM
The Cleveland Browns signed RB Edwin Baker (Texans) off the Houston Texans practice squad. In a corresponding move, the team waived QB Caleb Hanie Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Footballguys view: Baker has bounced around this year, spending time with the Chargers, Broncos and Texans. With Jason Campbell healthy the team didn't need to carry Hanie anymore. |

Broncos | Practice squad moves Tue Nov 19, 05:14 PM
The Denver Broncos signed FS John Boyett (Colts) to their practice squad Tuesday, Nov. 19, and released RB Edwin Baker in a corresponding move.
Footballguys view: The Broncos are looking for safety help now that Rahim Moore has been put on the IR/Designated to Return list. The Colts selected Boyett as a sixth-round draft pick in the 2013 NFL draft. He was released by the Colts earlier this year. Coming out of Oregon Boyett reminded some in the scouting community of Jim Leonhard. He's small, but Boyett can fly to the ball and make plays. |

Broncos | Seven signed Wed Sep 4, 08:29 AM
The Denver Broncos signed free-agent RB Edwin Baker (Chargers) and re-signed WR Tavarres King, OT Vinston Painter, WR Gerell Robinson, OT Paul Cornick, OG Ben Garland and DE John Youboty to the practice squad.
Footballguys view: King and Robinson are the guys to watch here. Both had good preseason performances but a numbers crunch sees them fall to the practice squad in 2013. Robinson has incredible chemistry with backup QB Brock Osweiler from their days playing together at Arizona State. King has outstanding speed and showed improved skills running after the catch in training camp. Both need to do a better job of catching contested passes. This situation is even more important to monitor because Eric Decker hits free agency at the end of this season. |

Broncos | Edwin Baker worked out Sun Sep 1, 11:18 AM
The Denver Broncos have worked out free-agent RB Edwin Baker (Chargers) Saturday, Aug. 31.
Footballguys view: The Broncos backfield is rich with fantasy potential, but none of the backs on the roster have seemed to instill confidence in the coaches. If the Broncos sign Baker, or any other free agent back, they are one to watch in the upcoming weeks. |

The San Diego Chargers released RB Edwin Baker, C Colin Baxter, CB Greg X. Brown, S Tony Burnett, WR Deon Butler, OG Brandyn Dombrowski, QB Nathan Enderle, P Richard Kent, DL Jamarkus McFarland and TE Dallas Walker Sunday, Aug. 25.
Footballguys view: Edwin Baker hung around on the team's practice squad, but he was overtaken by UDFA Michael Hill. Former Seahawks third-round pick Deon Butler hasn't been the same since breaking his leg in 2010. |

Chargers | Norv Turner mum on RB situation Wed Dec 19, 06:39 PM
San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner didn't reveal his plans at running back in Week 16 after RB Ryan Mathews (clavicle) was placed on the Injured Reserve. 'Well, we've got a chance to get Ronnie Brown back' Turner said. 'Jackie Battle will get a chance to play. And Brink (Curtis Brinkley ) played some yesterday, though I don't know that he would play on third down. And we'll probably add Edwin Baker to the 53-man roster. I don't know that he would be active, but we'd have to see where Ronnie Brown is.'
Footballguys view: We'll see the Chargers use a RBBC for the rest of the year. Battle, Brinkley, and Brown will split carries and receptions out of the backfield. This is not a situation fantasy owners can find value in. |

Chargers | Edwin Baker added to roster Wed Dec 19, 02:59 PM
The San Diego Chargers have signed practice squad RB Edwin Baker to their active roster. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Baker is an interesting deep dynasty league prospect to keep an eye on. He's not the biggest runner but has a physical style and does not shy away from contact. Baker is also good at keeping his feet after contact and has some wiggle in the open field. |

The San Diego Chargers signed RB Edwin Baker, OL Charlie Bryant, CB Gregory Gatson, DL Logan Harrell, DL Damik Scafe and WR Mike Willie to the practice squad Saturday, Sept. 1.

Chargers | Trio of RBs have added company Sat Jul 21, 12:05 AM
The San Diego Chargers signed RB Jackie Battle Friday, July 20, making things much tougher for RBs Edwin Baker, Curtis Brinkley and Michael X. Hayes heading into training camp and the preseason.
Footballguys view: The team lost FB Mike Tolbert in free agency, and Battle will compete with Le'Ron McClain to help fill that void. We don't expect Battle to get as many touches as Tolbert but he does have the versatility to contribute as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. Norv Turner has said the team will give RB Ryan Mathews 'as much as he can handle' this year. |

Chargers | Edwin Baker, Le'Ron McClain in mix for carries Tue Jun 26, 10:11 PM
San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews is the unquestioned starting tailback, but it gets murky after that on the depth chart. RB Ronnie Brown is viewed as being at the tail end of his career. Brown will try to hold off RB Curtis Brinkley for the primary backup role behind Mathews. RB Edwin Baker and FB Le'Ron McClain will also be in the mix for carries.
Footballguys view: McClain had nearly 1,000-yards rushing for the Ravens in 2008, but hasn't been asked to carry the rock in recent years. Baker has good lower body strength, elite quickness, and good initial burst. However, he lacks top end speed and is nothing more than a change of pace back in our eyes. |

Chargers | Edwin Baker expected to see time on third down Sat May 19, 03:05 PM
San Diego Chargers RB Edwin Baker is expected to see some playing time as a third-down back this season.
Footballguys view: Baker has a low center of gravity and runs with good balance and lateral quickness. He's not proven as a receiver out of the backfield with only 15 career receptions from his college days at Michigan State. |

Chargers | Edwin Baker signed Fri May 11, 01:43 PM
The San Diego Chargers have signed seventh-round draft choice RB Edwin Baker to a four-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Baker has a compact build and runs with a low center of gravity which makes him difficult to tackle in the open field. He's not a big RB and will likely play as a change of pace back behind Ryan Mathews. |
