Matthew Berry, NBC Sports EDGE
Looking to dominate your office pool this season? Eighteen Footballguys.com staff members are here to help you out. Each week they will pick the winners of every NFL game, and rank their selections based on how confident they are that the team will win. The most-confident pick gets 16 points, and the least-confident gets just 1. We'll even total up everyone's picks so you can get an overall consensus on who our staff think will be the most likely winners. Each week we'll announce the weekly winners, and track the overall record for the entire season. A couple of things to note before we get to the picks:
- Picks for this pool are straight up (no point spread considered).
- Picks are due on Wednesday nights, and will not reflect any late-breaking news. If your league allows for last-minute changes, please make adjustments to your office pool accordingly.
- Our staffers also play in weekly picks Against The Spread, and Survivor Style "Pick one Winner each week" formats as well. Check out the other weekly articles for more help with those types of games.
RESULTS FROM LAST WEEK
Jason Wood nearly pulled off his third win in four weeks, but he was narrowly edged out by fellow Eagles fan James Brimacombe 111-110. Brimacombe had fewer correct picks than Wood did, but Wood's bit bet on Buffalo ultimately cost him the win. The key to both of them finishing near the top was risking significantly fewer points on Seattle. While everyone on the board picks the Seahawks to win, their upset loss only cost Brimacombe and Wood a couple of points compared to everyone else.

As already mentioned, Seattle's loss was a huge hit, taking down everyone on the board. Pittsburgh's loss to the Jets also hurt most of the board, but Jeff Haseley scored well having risked 10 points on the Jets.
OVERALL RANKINGS
Davenport extended his lead by another point and Pasquino closed the gap a little as the top three teams continue to pull away from the crowd. One of these guys is going to take the top spot this week - see below for more details.

HEAVY FAVORITES
With everyone taking wild shots this week, only three teams emerged as unanimous choices - Kansas City, New England, and Dallas. All three games have playoff implications, which explains why the staff expects them all to win. Other teams that received a lot of confidence points compared to their opponents were Buffalo, New Orleans, Green Bay, and Indianapolis
DUAL SUPPORT
With some staff looking to make big moves in the final week, there are a couple of games that are closer than they would have been had this been week 15. Pittsburgh and Baltimore should be a good game, but many on the staff expect Baltimore to rest their starters since their playoff spot is locked in. Oakland still has an outside shot at making the playoffs, so they received a good chunk of points although the Broncos are still expected to win. The Titans and Texans should be a tough rematch of their came a couple of weeks ago, but the Titans do have a few more points on them. Finally, the late game Sunday received the fewest confidence points as Seattle and San Francisco play for the division title. Note this game had fewer confidence points as many staffers didn't spend as much time weighing the contests with the holiday week.
ODDS AND ENDS
Week 17 is odd - playoff teams rest their starters and teams who are out of the playoffs often start second and third-string players to begin next year's talent evaluation. Heated division rivals play a little harder against each other and odd stuff happens as the regular season winds down.
Looking at the previous three weeks, the top weekly score was over 110 points. With only 136 total possible points, even having a perfect score isn't going to cause a significant jump in the overall standings. If you are in the driver seat - your best bet is to stay the course and if you want to take some chances, make sure they are low risk. If you are in second or third but still within 30 points or so of the top, it's time to roll the dice.
Consider last week's Seattle game. Brimacombe and Wood finished #1 and #2 because the didn't lose as many points as everyone else. But what if Pasquino had put his 15 points on Arizona instead of Seattle? He'd have won the weekly and been tied for the overall lead right now. If you're more than 15 points out of first place, this is the type of thinking that could help you pull it out.
Here is how our top 3 contenders set their picks with the hope of taking home the top spot.

While the top three teams all picked the Bills to win, Miglio had a lot more than the others. If the Jets pull off an upset, he's going to be hit harder than the others. He also went heavier on the Rams than the other two. Miglio picked the Seahawks and the Texans to win their respective games but didn't put a lot of points on them. Davenport went heaver on the Cowboys than the other two did, and picked the Bears to upset Minnesota. Pasquino had the most ground to gain, so he took the most chances. He put more points on Tampa than the other two but had the Saints, Packers, and Patriots rated much lower. He also picked Baltimore and Oakland to win their respective games and put enough points on them to make a difference. He's given himself a shot to win if the games unfold as he expects.
Good luck this weekend!
