Staff Confidence Pool (No Spread) Week 8

Looking to dominate your office pool this season? 19 Footballguys.com staff members are here to help you out. Each week they will pick the winners of every NFL game, and rank their selections based on how confident they are that the team will win. The most confident pick gets 16 points, and the least confident gets just 1. We'll even total up everyone's picks so you can get an 'overall consensus' on who our staff think will be the most likely winners. Each week we'll announce the weekly winners, and track the overall record for the entire season. A couple of things to note before we get to the picks:

  • Picks for this pool are straight up (no point spread considered). 
  • Picks are due on Wednesday nights, and may not reflect any late-breaking news. If your league allows for last minute changes, please make adjustments to your office pool accordingly. 
  • Our staffers also play in weekly picks Against The Spread, and Survivor Style 'Pick one Winner each week' formats as well. Check out the other weekly articles for more help with those type of games. 

RESULTS FROM LAST WEEK

After last week's season low in confidence points, the board rebounded nicely with some big scores. Keith Roberts finished at the top of the weekly chart by posting an impressive 110 confidence points for the week and only missed two games in total. Brimacombe narrowly missed his third consecutive win by posting 108 points, and he only missed two games as well. But Roberts allocated his confidence points a little better, and he was one of only 3 staffers to pick the Bears to upset the Panthers. It was an impressive week for both of them.

Most of the leaderboard opened the week in the hole, picking Kansas City to easily win on the road against the Raiders. Oakland's big upset cost the board 154 points right out of the gate. Chicago's big win on Sunday morning cost the board another 124 points. The rest of the games went pretty much as expected which is why the scores were so high this week. 

OVERALL RANKINGS

Brimacombe's blistering pace is starting to have an impact on the overall rankings. He's extended his lead to 17 points on second place and is starting to pull away from the top of the pack. Roberts' win this week moved him into second, but he only gained 2 points on Brimacombe in the overall hunt.

HEAVY FAVORITES

With a short schedule this week and a couple Vegas lines in double digits, it's no surprise that there are quite a few heavy favorites this week. Philadelphia, Minnesota and New England find their names near the top of everyone's leaderboard with all staffers picking these three to win this weekend. New Orleans, Cincinnati and Kansas City were also unaminous choices from everyone this week. Seattle also ranks near the 'bottom of the top' with all but Heiser picking them to win, but with fewer confidence points than the other teams mentioned. 

DUAL SUPPORT

Tonight's game with the Dolphins visiting the Ravens was one of the toughest to pick this week. The visiting Dolphins received slightly more confidence points than the Ravens, but the overall score of less than 70 shows this could go either way. The lowest confidence game is Pittsburgh at Detroit with just 60 total confidence points between the two teams. The Steelers are the clear favorite, but they have self-destructed a couple times this season and that's given people some pause before rating them too high against a scrappy Lions team. Carolina and Tampa have blown hot and cold this season, and the Bucs are a slight favorite to win at home in a game that also had less than 70 total confidence points. Stay away from this game if posssible. 

ODDS AND ENDS

91 is the maxiumum total points this week. Given the pile of unaminous picks as well, we shouldn't see a lot of movement in the overall leaderboard. A couple upsets could really hurt, but in general, it will hurt everyone so the impact won't be as visible in the overall season ranks.
