Staff Confidence Pool (No Spread): Week 6

Looking to dominate your office pool this season? 18 Footballguys.com staff members are here to help you out. Each week they will pick the winners of every NFL game, and rank their selections based on how confident they are that the team will win. The most confident pick gets 16 points, and the least confident gets just 1. We'll even total up everyone's picks so you can get an 'overall consensus' on who our staff think will be the most likely winners. Each week we'll announce the weekly winners, and track the overall record for the entire season. A couple of things to note before we get to the picks:

  • Picks for this pool are straight up (no point spread considered). 
  • Picks are due on Wednesday nights, and may not reflect late-breaking news. If your league allows for last minute changes, please make adjustments to your office pool accordingly. 
  • Our staffers also play in weekly picks Against The Spread, and Survivor Style 'Pick one Winner each week' formats as well. Check out the other weekly articles for more help with those type of games. 

RESULTS FROM LAST WEEK

Matt Bitonti went into the Monday night contest with a slight lead, but a strong chance. He was the only staffer to pick Tampa Bay to pull off the upset, and if they did, he would win this week's contest. To his credit, the Bucs played hard and pulled out the win, giving Matt his first win. Probably the most interesting part of this week's contest was that the top four teams all missed five games, but due to the confidence weighting, Bitonti finished 13 points ahead of Bear Heiser who finished 4th. How you weight each team can really make a difference, especially when there are a few NFL teams off on a bye.

This week there were some tough losses, both in the NFL and in the confidence pool. Carolina was just the cherry on top of crap sundae. Baltimore, Philadelphia and Denver all had big losses, flushing 530 total confidence points down the drain. The Dolphins and the Bengals added another 110 points to the bonfire with their key losses as well. 

OVERALL RANKINGS

Larkin finished 5th this week, but he actually extended his lead on the overall board by seven more points. With Wimer and Garda both in the low 60's this week, Larkin's lead is back to 20.

HEAVY FAVORITES

Only two staffers have bucked the trend, taking San Diego over Denver tonight. The Broncos have over 150 confidence points riding on them in this game. Other heavy favorites this week include Buffalo, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, New England and Arizona. Seattle, Green Bay and even Philadelphia received a decent chunk of the confidence points in their respective contests.  

DUAL SUPPORT

Jacksonville at Chicago is about as close as it gets when it comes to the confidence pool. The Jaguars have just 1 extra point more than the Bears this week, and the game has just 71 total confidence points allocated to it. Indianapolis at Houston also has only 71 total confidence points, but the Texans are a 2-to-1 favorite from the Footballguys.com staff. Carolina at New Orleans is also a close game, but the Saints are a stronger choice based on this week's board. 

ODDS AND ENDS

With only two teams on a bye this week, we are back to 120 points for a maximum this week.
