Xavier Legette was drafted 32nd overall in Round One to the Carolina Panthers, according to Adam Schefter.
Fantasy Football Impact for Xavier Legette, Carolina Panthers
Legette is quite a mystery of a prospect. After never being able to put up 200 receiving yards in a single college season for four consecutive years, Legette tore it up in his fifth year with a dominant 1,255-yard, 7-touchdown season. His film in that 2023 season was extraordinarily fun to watch as he showed off immense levels of talent. On the Panthers, while he has the opportunity for volume with a potential breakout quarterback in Bryce Young, I see his odds of hitting as a prospect as extraordinarily low due to his severe lack of college production. Players with three to four years of very little production with one breakout season after that pan out at an incredibly low rate in the NFL. He is worth a lottery ticket in rookie drafts due to the upside he holds as an all-around physically dominant wide receiver, but his chances of hitting seem extremely slim. This feels like Jonathan Mingo all over again.
The Fantasy Football Fallout
Firstly, this pick slightly improves Bryce Young's passing options, but beyond that, it has little impact on fantasy football. Diontae Johnson still likely has a stranglehold on the WR1 role in Carolina's offense and as a result, he should still remain a solid volume-driven fantasy football asset. This is also the nail in the coffin for Jonathan Mingo, whose future in the big leagues looked pretty dim already.

Overview
I would have expected whoever Carolina picks at wide receiver to have more of an impact in fantasy football. However, Legette is such a mystery that it is unlikely to pan out, so for now, there are no dramatic changes when looking at this offense through a fantasy football lens.
