Before I dive in on Week 15 and some options at quarterback, the first order of business needs to be a congratulations. You've successfully navigated the minefield of the playoff push. You're in. No more sweating tiebreakers or calculating how many points Ja'Marr Chase can score against you. You're onto the big time. So, congratulations. Getting here isn't easy. There's no time to take your foot off the gas, though. The lights are going to shine brighter. Stay locked in for a few more weeks. It'll all be worth it.
If you find yourself locked into the first round and looking elsewhere at the quarterback position, you might feel a little anxious. Fear not. You have some options. Let's look at some guys with potential to carry you through and guys you'll want to avoid.
Let's dive in, looking at Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson, and Jameis Winston.
Week 15 Start/Sit: Quarterbacks
QB Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers
The resurgence of the 2023 No. 1 overall pick continues. His latest act was taking the now 11-2 Philadelphia Eagles to the brink at the Linc (Brinc at the Linc?) Against a defense surrendering just 18 points per game, Young looked poised and mobile in the pocket. He evaded pass rushers and showed a rapport with Adam Thielen. If not for an Xavier Legette bobble on the final drive, we might be discussing a quarterback with a third-straight top-15 finish. In any case, Bryce Young threw for 191 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in Week 14. His seven rushing attempts, though, were a season-high.
It's important to note the Eagles give up the third-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks. The Cowboys, however, surrender the third-highest points per game average to the position at 22.2 and the second-most rushing yardage per game to opposing quarterbacks. Starting Young in a playoff matchup might feel intimidating at first. This isn't the Bryce Young of old, though. The matchup is exploitable, and a second top-12 finish in four weeks isn't off the table.
Recommendation: Start Young
QB Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts
Speaking of cast-off quarterbacks making you think twice... There are certainly similarities between the sophomore seasons Young and Anthony Richardson experienced. Both were benched in favor of vets early on, and both are back in the starting lineup. Maybe a little patience by teams at the position might not be the worst strategy.
Let's start by giving credit where it's due; Richardson's finished as a top-10 quarterback in two of the last three weeks. He even cracked the top five in Week 11 against the Jets. This week, though, is a tough week to buy in. Outside of the Jameis Winston explosion in Week 13, the Denver Broncos are stingy against opposing quarterbacks. Even after Winston hung 33 points on them in Week 13, the Broncos still give up the seventh-fewest points per game to quarterbacks. They've also limited rushing from the position, giving up 14.7 rushing yards on 3.6 carries per game.
To make matters worse, Richardson is throwing an interception on 4.2 percent of his passing attempts this season -- the highest mark among qualified quarterbacks. The Broncos have the eighth-most interceptions in football. For all of those reasons, I'm out.
Recommendation: Sit Richardson
QB Jameis Winston, Cleveland Browns
Jameis Winston is a competent fantasy starter. For the Cleveland Browns. In 2024. Pretty wild series of sentences to type. This run's been as unapologetically Jameis as anyone could've hoped. Outside of the soundbites, there's been a snow game, upsets of the Steelers and Ravens, a 70-yard touchdown pass, and even a QB1 finish, all since he took over as Cleveland's starter in Week 8. He's been the QB9 over that span, even if he's been somewhat inconsistent. He's finished with at least 23 fantasy points three times. In the three games immediately following those performances, he's averaged just under 13 fantasy points per game.
The good news, though, is he's coming off a 15-point showing against Pittsburgh. By the law averages, he's due for a top-ten finish this week. Right?
In all seriousness, Kansas City is susceptible to fantasy quarterbacks. They've given up 18.5 points per game to the position and have intercepted just six passes on the season. Over its last three games, Cleveland has been throwing the ball an average of 42 times. If he can avoid the big turnovers, the script and matchup favor the NFL's most interesting man in Week 15.
