As we race toward August, Footballguys.com will look at one team per weekday with our quick-hitting Team Sleepers feature, where we check out the players we think will surprise this year.
Go Deeper: See in-depth projections for every Falcons player here >>>
This is a weekday series that will stretch through July 30. If you like this and want another, come back the next workday. Another will be here.
Sleepers We Are Targeting on the Falcons
We asked the Footballguys staff to identify a player they believe will outperform their current draft price.
- WR Darnell Mooney - 5 votes
- RB Tyler Allgeier - 1 vote
- LB Troy Andersen - 1 vote
- DT Grady Jarrett - 1 vote
- WR Drake London - 1 vote
- WR Rondale Moore - 1 vote
- RB Bijan Robinson - 1 vote
Reasons Darnell Mooney Could Be a Sleeper
- Ryan Weisse: It's been a while, but Mooney was very good back in 2021. Now he has a better quarterback and scheme, and he gets to face the opponent's second-best corner.
- Jason Wood: Mooney looked like a game-breaker a few seasons ago before a litany of injuries derailed his trajectory. But the Falcons quietly prioritized him in free agency, and Kirk Cousins has a history of supporting multiple fantasy assets in the passing game.
- Julia Papworth: Drake London and Kyle Pitts can't take all the targets, right? Right?
- Jeff Haseley: Mooney is likely the 4th option in the passing game behind Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and Bijan Robinson. I don't see him overtaking that trio, but he could quietly amass 50+ receptions and 4-5 touchdowns. He would make a solid 6th or 7th wide receiver in best ball leagues.
- Bob Harris: Mooney is two years removed from an 81-catch, 1,055-yard, four-TD season as a Bear in 2021, with Justin Fields as his QB. Now, in Atlanta, with defenses focused on higher-profile weapons, Mooney will outperform his WR64 Average Draft Position.
Reasons Tyler Allgeier Could Be a Sleeper
- Andy Hicks: Allgeier has performed above expectations since being drafted in the fifth round two years ago. Bijan Robinson cannot take every snap. Given the attrition rate at the position, taking a backup you know will put up starter stats if given the opportunity, Allgeier presents as great value.
Reasons Troy Andersen Could Be a Sleeper
- Kyle Bellefeuil: Last year was supposed to be Andersen's chance to shine until a pectoral injury ended his season after two games. Andersen has Nate Landman to compete with for sub-package snaps, but I'm bullish on the third-year man out of Montana State.
Reasons Grady Jarrett Could Be a Sleeper
- Tripp Brebner: Jarrett has been one of the league's better interior disruptors for the past decade. He's an afterthought after an ACL tear cut short his 2023 season. He'll be ten months beyond the injury on opening day and could be active.
Reasons Drake London Could Be a Sleeper
- Chad Parsons: London has started his career with 2.07 and 1.87 yards-per-route seasons. The missing links are quarterback help and only six total touchdowns for the supersized wide receiver. London has a strong chance to have his best season yet with Darnell Mooney and Rondale Moore relatively small additions to the passing game.
Reasons Rondale Moore Could Be a Sleeper
- Ben Cummins: Kirk Cousins doesn't run. He finds the open receiver. Moore will be open underneath and secure a lot of easy catches in this offense.
Reasons Bijan Robinson Could Be a Sleeper
- Phil Alexander: You're not sneaking Robinson past any of your league mates, but you should consider him undervalued whenever he falls past the 1.02 pick in fantasy drafts.
