Welcome to the dynasty trading post, where optimizing strategy, roster construction, format, and player value oscillations are examined weekly with examples and completed dynasty trades.
This week, we'll focus on the trade market of Christian McCaffrey and Chuba Hubbard after McCaffrey's return to his workhorse role and Hubbard's nearly 30 points in Week 10.
All trades are Superflex unless stated otherwise
RB Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco
After the Week 1 debacle and another eight long weeks of waiting, Christian McCaffrey made his 2024 season debut. The volume and production were present and McCaffrey's value should return to full. The problem for McCaffrey teams is it may be too late if this week does not result in a week. If 4-6 or worse, McCaffrey is an exploratory sell as contending teams should be willing to pay full freight with McCaffrey emerging from the game healthy and the trade deadline in many leagues is imminent in the next week or two. McCaffrey is not a must sell even if not contending considering he may help contending environments in 2025 as one of the best running backs in the NFL, but his market value will likely never be higher going forward. Here are a few examples of ideal sell ideas if not contending or interesting in maxing out present value:
- McCaffrey for Jameson Williams, 1st, 2nd
- McCaffrey, Jordan Mason for 1st, 1st
- McCaffrey for Travis Etienne Jr., DJ Moore, 1st, 2nd
- McCaffrey for Jonathon Brooks, 1st
- McCaffrey for Brian Thomas Jr..
- McCaffrey for Drake Maye
The Drake Maye deal is particularly interesting as Maye is playing his way toward being a top 24 startup pick and an insulated (for now) asset. The others center around a 1st+ for McCaffrey. Next year will be difficult to continue to pull a 1st+ for McCaffrey even if healthy and productive.
