Dynasty Tiers: Quarterbacks

It's preseason! We’ve seen real football on TV!

But more importantly, we have tangible news and actionable fantasy advice. So I’ve tinkered with my rankings based on preseason and practice snaps, beat reports, and any training camp Twitter highlights that just so happen to confirm my bias. We’ll start with the quarterback position since they're already killing our hopes (RIP JJ McCarthy).

Quarterback is deeper than ever, and your strategy for winning in a startup should be “Be the last to draft a rushing QB” in standard leagues and “Get a rushing QB1 at all costs and then get a safe QB2” in Superflex. Moreover, there are cheap Band-Aid options and future trade targets where flexibility is an option.

And after these tiers, you'll find the top quarterbacks to target.

Tier 1 Dynasty Rankings: The SF 1.01

1. Josh Allen, Buffalo

What do you get when you have a Mahomes-esque “Make it happen” type player with a cannon and rushing ability? A Fantasy Cheat Code in a tier of his own.

Tier 2 Dynasty Rankings: The Elite

2. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia
3. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore
4. C.J. Stroud, Houston
5. Patrick Mahomes II, Kansas City

Yes, Patrick Mahomes II is ranked five. It’s not that big of a deal because everyone in this tier is elite. Mahomes is just at the bottom because he is the oldest and runs the least. Fantasy is a numbers game and “Konami Code QB” is such a known cliche that it’s no longer a cheat code. QBs that don’t routinely rush need to throw for 3 touchdowns for spike weeks whereas a rushing QB barely needs to have a good game. Mahomes is likely the next GOAT and the best player in Football. But in Fantasy, rushing QBs reign supreme so I reach for them first. However, he is the safest pick with security no matter the situation, so he'll never fall out of the Elite tier.

8. Caleb Williams, Chicago
9. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati
10. Jordan Love, Green Bay

This is your last stop for rushing QBs or anyone who has a real shot of throwing a hat trick that week. These are my favorite assets to tier down from The Elites whenever that rare opportunity presents itself. When making your own dynasty quarterback rankings, this is the tier you should plan on drafting from for a good balance of youth/production.
