Dynasty News has been a part of Footballguys for well over a decade. Our Jeff Tefertiller combines strategy with relevant NFL news to help dynasty managers excel with their teams. It examines some of the larger happenings of the week from a dynasty perspective. The news may be injury- or performance-related.
Dynasty News: Dak Prescott, Dallas
Dak Prescott injured his hamstring in the loss to Atlanta. Initial reports were that he would miss a couple of games. But, last week, beat reporter Jane Slater reported, "As the #Cowboys weigh in on Dak Prescott's IR status, sources tell me the initial diagnosis is a partial avulsion of his hamstring tendon, which is partially torn off the bone. I'm told it typically takes more than a 4-week recovery. In some cases, they let it scar over, repair, and then strengthen. With that being said, Prescott is seeking other opinions, which is why there is currently a reluctance to place him on IR or make any determinations about a timeline for return. With a losing record, there is no reason to rush Prescott back to the field. Dr. Jeff Mueller tweeted:

Basically two options:
1. Non-operative, see how it's doing in 4-6 weeks, determine RTP
2. Operative, repair the partial tear (similar to Greg Newsome II situation), see you in 2025
He's 31 yo. I lean towards him going Option 2 so he's 100% for next season. https://t.co/6gFnwFpT51
On Thursday, Steven Jones Jr. appeared on a radio station and was asked about Prescott. He responded that the Cowboys are going through all the options. Jones said, "With his situation, it's probably gonna be one that is gonna take a full four weeks before he could even think about making a return, if not longer … At some point (the injury) could (require surgery). No one is recommending it now." Then, on Friday, Jones told radio listeners that Prescott would be placed on injured reserve, "Right now, I don't think anyone knows whether it will be four weeks, six weeks, or the season. We'll just have to continue to monitor that and see where it takes us." Prescott was placed on injured reserve over the weekend and is expected to miss the remainder of the season, per Adam Schefter. Cooper Rush started in his place against the Eagles and played miserably. We also expect Trey Lance to see action in the coming weeks, just to see how he performs. Dallas is a team that needs to rebuild but will never take that path. Dynasty managers should use the disappointing season to buy CeeDee Lamb and Jake Ferguson.
Dynasty News: Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville
Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence injured his left shoulder in Week 9. Given the Jaguars' 2-8 record after the Minnesota game, we may not see Lawrence again this season. Mac Jones is his backup. Two medical professionals weighed in on the injury. First, Dr. Jeff Mueller tweeted, "Oh. We might not see Trevor Lawrence again in 2024. Makes me think he has a Left labral tear that he is considering having surgery to repair. Could play through it, but I can only assume he's weighing options now, given JAC's record." Then, Footballguys injury expert Adam Hutchison weighed in, "Agree with this take about labrum being possible injury. We have a small sample of this injury for NFL QBs, but the timeline could be anywhere from 2-8 weeks based on comp. Something to consider for #jaguars Trevor Lawrence." There is a looming chance that the young quarterback will not play again this season. The Jacksonville offense is a mess, and the downgrade from Lawrence to Jones is less of an issue than the overall offensive ineffectiveness. With their 2-8 record, there is a chance that the Jaguars coaching staff turns over in the offseason, which could either be a good thing for Lawrence ... or a bad thing. This offense is stacked for fantasy success if the coaches can unlock Lawrence's potential.
