Dynasty News has been a part of Footballguys for well over a decade. Our Jeff Tefertiller combines strategy with relevant NFL news to help dynasty managers excel with their teams. It examines some of the larger happenings of the week from a dynasty perspective. The news may be injury- or performance-related.
Dynasty News: Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis
Last week, Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen announced the benching of quarterback Anthony Richardson, "Joe will be our quarterback going forward. Tough decision, but thought it was in the best interest of our football team. Not giving up on Anthony. Young player with a ton of talent. He'll use this time to develop and grow as a professional … Joe gives us the best chance to win right now." When asked if there is a plan for Richardson to start for this Colts franchise again, Steichen replied, "I can't predict the future. That'd be great. We'll see." When he was asked whether the team is unified in the decision to bench his starting quarterback, Steichen said, "I can't speak for our team." The locker room was not unified on the decision.
Zaire Franklin told reporters that Richardson had not lost the locker room. Franklin said, “I still believe he’s the future of this team. I know that sounds crazy to everybody who knows right now, but that’s something I still full-heartedly believe.” Star receiver Michael Pittman Jr. said that he “first found out through social media, but then I messaged somebody from our front office to see if it was confirmed, and then it was.”
Ouch! This is not a great look for the coaching staff. When pressed for a reason, Steichen repeatedly said that Joe Flacco gives the team the best chance to win. He went on to say that Richardson took himself out of the game because he was tired, but it was not one of the reasons he was benched. It had to be a contributing factor. While this is disappointing for Richardson’s development, we expect him to have a career arc similar to Justin Fields where he flashed more promise than wins and had to go elsewhere to take the next step in his development. For now, the Indianapolis receivers benefit from having an experienced quarterback under center.
Dynasty News: Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott grabbed his hamstring after a pass in Sunday's loss to Atlanta. He was grimmacing in pain and was replaced by Cooper Rush. News broke Monday afternoon that Prescott would miss multiple games with the injury. The Cowboys are 3-5 with games against Philadelphia, Houston, and Washington next up on the schedule. If they are quickly eliminated from the playoffs, Trey Lance may see extended action. He is a payer to stash in SuperFlex leagues, possibly over Rush. We have seen Rush play. The results are not good. If Dallas is 3-8 when Prescott is ready to return, the team might hold him out the rest of the season. The shoulder injury to star receiver CeeDee Lamb will not help Rush's chances much against these three playoff-caliber teams.
Dynasty News: Isiah Pacheco, Kansas City
Last Wednesday, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters that starting tailback Isiah Pacheco is doing well and “getting closer to returning.” Sunday morning, Ian Rapoport reported that Pacheco is "targeting a late-November return." Kareem Hunt’s control over the backfield will soon go away. We expect Hunt and Pacheco to split time once the latter is back healthy. Dynasty managers only have a couple more weeks to acquire Pacheco on the cheap while Hunt is piling up the fantasy points.
Dynasty News: Bucky Irving, Tampa Bay
Last Thursday, beat reporter Rick Stroud tweeted, “Bucs coach Todd Bowles says Bucky Irving will be dealing with a foot injury the rest of the season, and they plan on taking the same routine where he practices later in the week but think he will play.” Irving has played well when given the opportunity. His injury and decreased fantasy numbers will make him easier to acquire next offseason.
Dynasty News: A.J. Brown, Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Eagles offense relies on the big plays after the catch from their star receiver. A.J. Brown limped off the field in the third quarter of Sunday's victory and was ruled out of the contest a few minutes later. Philadelphia was up big on Jacksonville at the time of the injury so there is hope that his game departure was just precautionary. The Eagles play in Dallas next week, followed by tough games against Washington, the Los Angeles Rams, and Baltimore. This is a tough upcoming schedule for a 6-2 team looking to win the NFC East again. We expect Brown to try to play through the injury if able. However, our injury expert, Adam Hutchison, fears this could be a multi-week ailment for Brown.
