The season is now in full swing, and the news and injuries are increasing. In today’s “Dynasty News,” we will examine some of the larger happenings of the week from a dynasty perspective.
Dynasty News: Geno Smith, Seattle
Last week, former scout and current television analyst Daniel Jeremiah appeared on a Seattle radio station to talk about quarterback Geno Smith. Jeremiah spoke highly of Smith’s 2024 play and said, “Do you think the Panthers would do $50M after this year? Maybe another 5 or 6 teams might be willing to do that. Whether Seattle wants to do it or not, somebody's going to step up and give it to him if he keeps playing like this.” Smith has one year remaining on his three-year, $75-million contract. Many have speculated that the Seahawks will move in a different direction next year, drafting a rookie in the 2025 NFL Draft. Quarterback play is currently at a low point and there will be ample demand for Smith as long as he is playing at a high level.
Dynasty News: Tua Tagovailoa, Miami
Adam Schefter gave an encouraging update on Tagovailoa’s concussion recovery. Schefter said that the Dolphins quarterback is "symptom-free" and appears to be on track to return to the field as soon as Week 8. This is good news. Schefter later said, “I think at this point and time, it would be more surprising if Tua didn't come back.” The Miami offense is a mess without their captain at the helm. The next question will be whether he returns if his team is several games out of the playoff chase. Miami sits at 2-3 and has a difficult upcoming schedule.
Dynasty News: Ken Walker III, Seattle
Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb lauded Ken Walker III to reporters, “I’ve never seen an athletic profile like that… He’s special, man. He’s growing every day, he’s getting better, and it’s scary what his top end’s looking like.” Grubb went on to say, “I think he gets better every single day. I think the sky’s the limit for him. I think he’s a really, really talented, powerful back that’s a true three-tool guy… He’s electric out of the backfield as a pass-catcher.” There is a very real chance that Walker – along with Breece Hall – are the top two backs in dynasty this coming season.
Dynasty News: Zamir White, Las Vegas
Last Tuesday, beat reporter Vic Tafur tweeted that the Raiders starting tailback left practice early with an injury. White did not practice the rest of the week and missed Sunday’s game at Denver. A day before the injury, coach Antonio Pierce told reporters that Alexander Mattison would see an uptick in touches at the expense of White. Mattison looked good in the lead role in the loss to Denver.
Dynasty News: Rasheen Ali, Baltimore
Last Thursday, the Baltimore Ravens opened the practice window for rookie Rasheen Ali, who was placed on injured reserve before the season with a neck injury. He now has 21 days to either be activated or left on injured reserve the remainder of the season. With Derrick Henry and Justice Hill dominating touches, Ali should be able to slowly ramp up his practice reps until able to play a viable role down the stretch. Keaton Mitchell is also on injured reserve.
Dynasty News: Davante Adams, Las Vegas
The Davante Adams trade story has dominated the news cycle this past week. The 32-year-old receiver is forcing himself out of Las Vegas, and his time in the desert is coming to an end. Dianna Russini tweeted, “Teams having conversations with the Raiders about Davante Adams have been informed his hamstring injury is expected to keep him sidelined 1-2 weeks. I’ve been told this is a real injury. He is expected to miss this week but could be back next week if there are no snags.” The hamstring injury has delayed the trade because Adams would need to pass a physical to seal the trade. We expect a trade this week. Each side needs to move on from the relationship. For dynasty, Adams may have one or two elite years remaining. One caution, though. Adams will likely see a reduction in targets wherever he is traded. Few teams can offer him 160 targets.
