Buy Low
Bijan Robinson (RB-ATL) - Robinson is being unfairly lumped in with Breece Hall (even by me) because both were first-round fantasy draft picks with much more formidable competition for touches than was factored into their ADP. Or was Tyler Allgeier actually good and the Falcons actually wanted to use him factored in, hence that’s why Robinson went after Hall? But unlike Hall, Robinson has actually played well. The Falcons offense (read: Kirk Cousins) underperforming expectations has been the culprit more than Robinson himself. The Panthers are going to be the get-right game for every offense this year. The Bears offense, which scared absolutely no one going into last week, posted over 300 passing yards and three running back scores last week against Carolina. The Falcons might cook a fifty-burger on that grill. Robinson is going to be fine. Buy while there’s hesitation to believe that is true.
Jaylen Wright, Raheem Mostert (RB-MIA) - We finally saw the Dolphins running game - which produced the most valuable backfield in fantasy football last year - get on track last week. That was with Tyler Huntley at quarterback. We should see Tua Tagovailoa return in Week 8, paving the way for the offense to click again. In Week 7, Miami faces the Colts' porous run defense. De'Von Achane should return from his concussion, but we were reminded of his heightened injury risk. At least one, if not both, of these backs will gain value as the season goes on. It’s even possible that one of them is the last man standing of the three by the fantasy playoffs. Buy cheap while they are on a bye.
Blake Corum (RB-LAR) - If Corum is dropped during his bye, you need to pounce. He finally got the field ahead of Ronnie Rivers. The Rams continue to overuse Kyren Williams, who has missed significant time in each of his first two seasons. The Rams offense should get back to its high level of production once Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua return. The reasons that made Corum one of the first backup running backs off of the board are mostly intact. It ends up that the idea that Corum could turn this into a true RBBC was a bit overblown, but Corum’s potential value if Williams misses time again was not.
Xavier Hutchinson (WR-HOU) - Hutchinson has been overlooked in dynasty leagues but is now on our redraft radar and could see a big increase in value in both formats as the primary replacement for Nico Collins while he is on injured reserve. Hutchinson is a Matt Waldman favorite, and a good performance over the next month could cement his spot as the #3 receiver when Stefon Diggs likely leaves in free agency next year.
Jalen Hurts (RB-PHI) - Saquon Barkley giving the Eagles a real running back who can actually finish drives and deprive Hurts of rushing touchdown opportunities seemed like a real bummer for Hurts fantasy value, but the bigger reason his production was down in the first month was that both of his starting wide receivers missed time with injury, including A.J. Brown playing in exactly one game. It’s a testament to Hurts that he remained in the starting fantasy quarterback ranks during that stretch, and maybe a sign that Kellen Moore is going to be an upgrade as a play-caller for Hurts. Don’t be surprised if Hurts (and Lamar Jackson) separates from the quarterback pack and provides elite production going forward.
Austin Ekeler, Jeremy McNichols (RB-WAS) - Another reminder here that Ekeler looks pretty much like the same back who was a top-five fantasy pick two years ago. With Brian Robinson Jr nursing a knee problem, Ekeler could get a bump in touches and become an every-week fantasy starter in short order. Behind him, McNichols has looked like a live runner despite being on the fringe of NFL rosters for the last seven years. This offense is good enough to elevate any running back to fantasy relevance, so make sure McNichols is rostered in your deep league. The Washington backfield has scored nine times in five games. You want a piece of it on your roster.
Andrei Iosivas (WR-CIN) - Iosivas's redraft value has dried up with the return of Tee Higgins, but overall, his performance has validated the Bengals gushing about him all summer. He is a great buy in dynasty as the heir to Higgins' spot next year, and all it takes is another hamstring injury for Higgins to make Iosivas relevant in redraft again. Having ascendant passing game pieces (Erick All Jr.!) tied to Joe Burrow is a good thing.
