Welcome to Week 7 of the 2023 Footballguys Roundtable. Our intrepid panel of fantasy pundits discusses and debates four topics every week. We split the conversation into separate features.
This week's roundtable features these four topics:
- Rams and 49ers Backfields
- Second-Half Surge
- Dynasty Buy, Sell, or Hold?
- What's More Likely? (see below)
Let's roll.
What's More Likely?
Matt Waldman: Choose the outcome you think is most likely, explain why, and how to leverage that knowledge as a fantasy GM. (Hint: In addition to the player, talk about players on the team who might be impacted.)
- Zach Evans takes the job in LA and runs with it.
- Aaron Rodgers returns in time for the fantasy playoffs and delivers starter value.
- Jordan Addison delivers a 1,000-yard rookie season.
- Jameson Williams becomes a consistent deep threat
- Brock Purdy remains a fantasy QB1.
Go . . .
Again, choose three.
Phil Alexander: Brock Purdy remaining a fantasy QB1 is the most likely of these scenarios. The injuries to Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Trent Williams appear relatively minor, which leaves Purdy's upside intact. And we shouldn't hold last week's rainy, sloppily-played game in Cleveland against him. Purdy will get back on track this week against Minnesota's exploitable pass defense, and the schedule isn't particularly scary moving forward.
Trading for Brandon Aiyuk is the best way to leverage Purdy's continued success. Aiyuk is the healthiest of the 49ers pass-catching weapons and already leads the team in most fantasy-relevant receiving categories. His hot start is the natural evolution of a great wide receiver, not a fluke.
