Jeff Wilson Jr. was a life preserver. Mike McDaniel arrived in Miami as a guru of the rushing game. McDaniel’s rush offense ranked 30th through his first eight games, at 88.12 yards per game. Chase Edmonds quickly fizzled, and Raheem Mostert faced a workload that raised concerns considering his health history.
Wilson brought change. The team’s efficiency increased, and their yards per game jumped over 20 to 109, closer to respectability. Wilson and Mostert served in a near-equal split.
How did dynasty managers respond?
Wilson’s value has dropped in half since December on Keeptradecut. Yes, the arrival of De'Von Achane is a significant factor, but as we prep for the 2023 season, Wilson still sits in line for substantial involvement.
The Resume
Wilson posted career highs in yards (860) and attempts (176). His 4.9 yards per attempt placed him inside the top 15, tying him with NFL rushing champion Josh Jacobs.
This season was the second time in three years that Wilson exceeded 4.8 YPC on at least 126 rushes with five or more touchdowns. In Dolphins history, they only have ten seasons hitting those marks, primarily from names filling their ring of honor: Ricky Williams, Mercury Morris, and Larry Csonka. Like Wilson, Morris and Csonka are the only players to hit it twice.
Wilson should maintain a role in the rotation, even with the addition of Achane. He is the most physical of the three main backs, putting him in a great position to grab the goal line work, where he out-touched Mostert 18 to 13 after arriving in Miami.
An afterthought in dynasty value, Wilson can serve as a bye-week fill-in who is an injury away from returning a significant value.
