Waivers of the future will focus on making decisions that improve our odds of our dynasty championship. The back of your dynasty roster should be flexible, with preferences made for players you can use in your lineup during the season.
Quarterbacks
Among the quarterbacks, there are three types of waiver options: those moving up this week, veteran backups, and potential young players with future roles.
Moving Up this Week
The following players warrant waiver wire consideration this week.
- Gardner Minshew, PHI
Jalen Hurts suffered a strained shoulder in week 15 and his week 16 status is in doubt. Backup Gardner Minshew became a bit of a cult hero during his time in Jacksonville before he was traded to Philadelphia. He has spent the past two seasons backing up Hurts. Minshew has one of the better back supporting casts, with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, along with the expected return of Dallas Goedert. He is a QB2 consideration when Hurts is hurt.
- Bailey Zappe, NEP
Mac Jones has taken a real step back in 2022 after a very successful 2021 rookie season. Bailey Zappe started in weeks 5 and 6 then rotated with Mac Jones in week 7. He has been on the bench behind Jones since, but Jones hit a low this week, averaging less than 4 yards per attempt against a weak Las Vegas defense. Zappe is a candidate to start this season or get a renewed opportunity to compete with Jones in the offseason. He is worth a stash in premium formats if available.
For other quarterbacks who could see a chance to start in 2023 you should check your waiver wire for:
- P.J. Walker, CAR
- Jacoby Brissett, CLE
- Cooper Rush, DAL
- Jordan Love, GB
- Teddy Bridgewater, NO
- Sam Howell, WAS
Running Back
One of the keys to dynasty fantasy football is continuously optimizing your backup running back situation. The last five to ten roster spots on your roster should be very fluid, with little allegiance if the player does not offer the capacity to help your lineup. A constant churn on the back end of your roster is critical.
Moving Up this Week
The following running backs have improved this week and are available in more than 50% of MFL leagues.
- Zack Moss, IND, and Deon Jackson, IND
Jonathan Taylor suffered a high ankle sprain and is expected to miss the rest of the season. Zack Moss led the backfield, with 24 carries and 71 rushing yards, while Deon Jackson ran 13 times for 55 rushing yards. Moss played 53 snaps while Jackson played only 25. Jackson had previously led the team in running back touches in the three games Jonathan Taylor had missed, but the games occurred before Moss was integrated after his in-season trade. Both warrant a roster addition with the hope a clear start will be possible in the closing two weeks of the season.
If you are transitioning to the offseason, the following running backs have a combination of NFL Draft pedigree and potential opportunity for 2023 and warrant stash consideration if they are available on the waiver wire:
- Malik Davis, DAL
- D’Ernest Johnson, CLE
- Jermone Ford, CLE
- Kene Nwangwu, MIN
- Ty Chandler, MIN
- Pierre Strong Jr, NEP
- Kevin Harris, NEP
- Hassan Haskins, TEN
Other Backups
Other backups with high availability include:
- Matt Breida, NYG
- David Johnson, NO
- Keaontay Ingram, ARI
- Travis Homer, SEA
Wide Receiver
The odds wide receivers from the waiver wire will become a big difference maker on your dynasty roster are very small. For every Tyreek Hill, there are 100 Travis Fulgham. Your strategies on the wide receiver position should be to find immediate lineup help or a flip candidate.
Potential additions this week include:
- Marquise Goodwin, SEA
Tyler Lockett is expected to miss multiple weeks with a finger injury that will need surgery to fix. This opens an opportunity for Marquise Goodwin to see a spot start or two in the fantasy playoffs. Goodwin will be in line for starter snaps and routes but is a drop off from Lockett. He warrants consideration if he is you need a spot starter.
If you are transitioning to the offseason, the following wide receivers have a combination of NFL Draft pedigree and potential opportunity for 2023 and warrant stash consideration if they are available on the waiver wire:
- Khalil Shakir, BUF
- Jalen Tolbert, DAL
- Will Fuller, FA
- Justyn Ross, KC
- Tyquan Thornton, NEP
- Rashid Shaheed, NO
Tight Ends
If you are transitioning to the offseason, the following tight ends have a combination of NFL Draft pedigree and potential opportunity for 2023 and warrant stash consideration if they are available on the waiver wire:
- Charlie Kolar, BAL
- Jake Ferguson, DAL
- James Mitchell, DET
- Donald Parham, DAL
- Hunter Long, MIA
- Jeremy Ruckert, NYJ
- Armani Rogers, WAS
