The challenge of playing the dynasty format is understanding market values and when to unload risky assets. Now that the start of the season is upon us, some assets carry more risk on your dynasty roster than others. The smart move is to unload these prospects for other assets before the season, but even the best dynasty manager will overplay their hand. Whether it be because of stubbornness or the need to be correct, it’s hard for dynasty managers to admit when the players they drafted don’t hold the same value. Some managers struggle to unload these prospects before the last bit of value is dried up. But, like in life, sometimes the rush of going all-in is too exciting to pass up. As the season comes, we’ll cover each position's riskiest assets on your roster. The four riskiest quarterback assets that dynasty managers will be going all-in on this season are here.
Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville
Lawrence being on this list has less to do with him as a player and more with his current value in leagues. Last season, Lawrence struggled on the field, throwing for 3,641 yards with 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He was borderline unstartable in Superflex leagues after his week seven bye. Yet he is still being drafted in the first two rounds of Superflex startups and held his value throughout the off-season. The biggest question mark around Lawrence is whether he can have a good enough season in 2022 to warrant being a top-12 quarterback selection. The upside to Lawrence is his rushing ability. He rushed for 334 yards and two touchdowns last season, and we could see a bump in those numbers in 2022. The Jaguars also fired Urban Meyer and replaced him with Doug Pederson, who has a proven track record of developing quarterbacks. The Jaguars also added weapons to their roster by signing Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and Evan Engram, but those weapons may not be enough for Lawrence to prove his current ADP is justifiable. The X-Factor to this offense will be Travis Etienne, who is coming off a Lisfranc injury. If Etienne can stay healthy, that will help Lawrence by providing him with the best weapon he’s played with in his short NFL career, but there are a lot of question marks on this Jacksonville roster. Coming out of college, many dynasty managers expected Lawrence to be a perennial QB1 for years. Now that is in question, and he needs a big year to live up to those lofty expectations.
- Dynasty Superflex ADP: 22.00 QB12
- KTC Value: QB11
- Buy/Sell/Hold: Hold
- Current Trade Value: Mid 2023 1st
Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia
No other player in the NFL has a more volatile dynasty value than Jalen Hurts. There is no question about Hurts' value in redraft formats. He finished last season as QB9 overall averaging 21.4 fantasy points per game. He exceeded everyone’s expectations and helped many fantasy managers win their leagues. The issue with Hurts is that many believe that after this season, the Eagles will be searching for another quarterback to lead their team. On paper, the Eagles look like an entirely different offense after acquiring wide receiver A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith taking the next step in his second season. If you're interested in a full breakdown of A.J. Brown’s upcoming season, you can find that here. On top of those receivers, Hurts will also have Dallas Goedert, Miles Sanders, and Kenneth Gainwell to utilize in this RPO offensive system. His great rushing ability will help you win this season, but you could be left with a backup quarterback in 2023. That's where the risk lies. If you can get a 2023 1st plus an asset for Hurts, it may be time to offload him off your roster. There is a slight chance that if he loses his job, he could be a journeyman spot starter for the rest of his career, but with a QB9 ADP, that's a significant risk. If you are not a contending team, it’s time to get Jalen Hurts off your dynasty roster.
- Dynasty Superflex ADP: 14.00 QB9
- KTC Value: QB9
- Buy/Sell/Hold: Sell
- Current Trade Value: Mid 2023 1st
