The challenge of playing the dynasty format is understanding market values and when to unload risky assets. Now that the start of the season is upon us, some assets carry more risk on your dynasty roster than others. The smart move is to unload these prospects for other assets before the season, but even the best dynasty manager will overplay their hand. Whether it be because of stubbornness or the need to be correct, it’s hard for dynasty managers to admit when the players they drafted don’t hold the same value. Some managers struggle to unload these prospects before the last bit of value is dried up. But, like in life, sometimes the rush of going all-in is too exciting to pass up. As the season comes upon us, we’ll cover each position's riskiest assets on your roster. If you missed the first two articles in this series, you can find them above. This article will dive into the four riskiest wide receiver assets on which dynasty managers will be all-in this season.
Jerry Jeudy, Denver
You could argue that there is no other wide receiver under more pressure this season than Jerry Jeudy. Heading into his third season, this could be a make-or-break year for him in dynasty league formats. In the early part of his career, Jeudy struggled to average more than ten fantasy points per game in his first two seasons on the Broncos. Part of that lack of production can be attributed to poor quarterback play and an ankle sprain that limited him to only ten games last season, but the pressure is mounting for Jeudy to contribute. With the addition of Russell Wilson and Tim Patrick tearing his ACL, opening up more targets for him, there are no more excuses for Jeudy not to produce. He has shown the ability to separate from defense, and according to player profiler, Jeudy led the league in target separation last season. Now with Russell Wilson at the helm, one could assume that will benefit Jeudy’s strengths as a receiver. Still, Jeudy will be competing against Courtland Sutton for targets, and we could be looking at a DK Metcalf/Tyler Lockett-like duo in 2022. Based on what dynasty managers have invested in Jeudy, he’s been a risky dynasty asset to hold, and if he has another lackluster season in 2022, his value could bottom out. Before the Patrick injury, Jeudy was a sell in dynasty, but now that he has less target competition, he’s a hold.

Gabriel Davis, Buffalo
The great Gabriel Davis debate this off-season has been an all-timer in dynasty circles. There seem to be only two sides to Davis either you think he can exceed expectations this year in a high-powered offense and be an outlier in terms of draft capital, or he’s one of the biggest sells in dynasty leagues. There doesn’t seem to be any in-between. Davis had a coming-out party in the playoffs last season with ten catches for 242 yards and five touchdowns. He earned thirteen targets in both those games and was an efficient part of the offensive attack. He also found the endzone four times in the last six weeks of the season, which many point to as a turning point for the third-year receiver. The Bills lost Cole Beasley and Emmanuel Sanders this off-season but did add Jamison Crowder and Khalil Shakir. They are also expecting big things from veteran receiver Isaiah McKenzie. McKenzie has had a great camp and looks poised to take over the valuable slot receiver role in Buffalo’s offense. Not to mention the return of All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs who seems poised to have one of the best seasons of his career, and tight end Dawson Knox who finished as a low-end TE1 last season. Davis has also recorded a lackluster catch rate of 56% and a drop rate of 6.4% in his first two seasons, which many point to as reasons why fantasy managers' expectations should be tempered when discussing Davis as a breakout candidate. If Davis does break out, it would be a historical anomaly for a fourth-round draft pick. If you could move Davis for a late 2023 1st, that would be worthwhile, but his value is currently under that. If you have Davis on your roster, he’s a hold based on his current market value, but he’s someone that you should be looking to move this season.
