FANTASY DayDreams And Nightmares
Matt Waldman: First, tell us about a player you thought would be a dream selection for your teams this year who was more of a nightmare. Then, tell us about a player you didn't want anything to do with, but at some point, you took the plunge and couldn't be happier. (You can also apply this to the fantasy community in general, not just your teams)
Drew Davenport: Courtland Sutton has to be at or near the top of my list of fantasy nightmares. Unfortunately, my list is long this year, but Sutton is one of my biggest regrets. I wasn't alone in thinking that Russell Wilson could flourish in Denver, but we all know the result of that experiment by now. Sutton went down with the ship. After five weeks of the season, Sutton was PPR WR12(!), but the offensive problems never got solved, and then he went down with a hamstring injury. All-in-all a lost season for the talented pass-catcher.
A player that I didn't want anything to do with but was happy I came around on is Rhamondre Stevenson. I've never been a big believer in buying into that New England situation, and this year was no different. But when Damien Harris got hurt, the Patriots never looked back. Stevenson already has 60 receptions and over 1,200 total yards with three weeks left in the year. I didn't target him in my salary cap leagues too much, but in my serpentine formats, he was a big component of several of my teams. As the current PPR RB8, he's been a huge fantasy contributor for his draft price.
Kevin Coleman: The low-hanging fruit here is Allen Robinson. While I wasn’t beating the drum as loudly as others in the fantasy space, Robinson looked like a smashing value at his pre-season ADP. Stepping into the WR2 role on a high-powered offense with the best quarterback he had ever played with should have returned value across the board. However, as the story played out, we realized how wrong we were. Robinson failed to earn meaningful targets early in the season. The Rams' offense fell apart, and Robinson found himself on the IR. this was one of the biggest misses in the space in quite some time.
