Identifying bounce-back or breakout players for the following season is a long-standing strategy to maximize roster value in the offseason. Here are my favorite bets for an uptick in 2023:
ONE MORE RUNNING BACK...
After mentioning two running backs in last week's breakout article, one more qualified for inclusion, and that is Najee Harris.
Why: Harris has drawn dynasty ire this season for his downturn in production, sagging into the mid-20s of the running back position on a per-game basis. This offers an opportunity to buy a discounted profile in the offseason, however, with similarities to Josh Jacobs through multiple seasons. Harris has Round 1 pedigree and showed as a rookie a high-volume receiving workload, not common for young running backs. The list of Round 1 running backs with two top-24 finishes to open their career is a who's who of sustained production. Of the 17 peers, all 17 have hit in Year 3 or beyond for at least one top-12 finish with the average result of more than three additional RB1-level seasons. Harris has the makings of the next Josh Jacobs, a running back falling into the RB15+ or even RB20+ zone of the market, but with an argument to finish in the top-five of the position any future season.
