We scour the news around the NFL to bring you what matters most to you and your dynasty team: the most current news on players, both superstars and the relative unknowns, and analysis to decipher the respective situations. These are many of the major stories and are not meant to be an exhaustive look at all the recent happenings around the league.
Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion was scary. It was uncertain when he would return to the Miami offense until Saturday when Adam Schefter tweeted, “Dolphins’ QB Tua Tagovailoa was cleared from concussion protocol today, per sources. He will be inactive on Sunday vs. the Vikings, but he is expected to return for Week 7 vs. the Steelers” and “Dolphins’ QB Teddy Bridgewater also was cleared from concussion protocol today, per sources. He will be active Week 6 and serve as the back-up on Sunday to rookie QB Skylar Thompson, the Dolphins' seventh-round draft pick this year.” Earlier in the day, Tom Pelissero tweeted some comforting news about Tagovailoa’s recovery, “#Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa flew to Detroit and Pittsburgh to meet with specialists, far exceeding the normal concussion protocol before he was cleared today. Returning to practice this week was the final step, and he’s now slated to start next week vs. the #Steelers” and “Importantly, Tua suffered no setbacks during his progress through the concussion protocol, per source. Now cleared, he’s passed all the doctor appointments, etc., and can focus on football as he prepares for his return to the lineup next week.” So, expect Tagovailoa under center next week with Bridgewater as his backup. The Dolphins are a dangerous team when healthy and getting their starting passer back is a great start.
The Pittsburgh Steelers offense has been a mess this year, and tailback Najee Harris has yet to get untracked. Late last week, he told reporters that he had a steel plate removed from his shoe earlier in the week. The plate stabilized his foot since the training camp injury. In that conversation, Harris stated how he now feels 100% recovered and that taking the steel plate out was the final step (literally) in the rehabilitation.
The Cam Akers saga has been interesting to follow. After the initial reports of Akers’ absence were called “personal reasons”, it has become obvious that the reasons stem from a disagreement between the player and the team. The situation does not seem to be centered around a family matter, impending suspension, or legal matter; the three things most likely to be called “a personal matter.” Sunday morning, Jay Glazer reported that Akers is unlikely to ever wear a Rams uniform again, and the team is actively trying to trade their tailback. Darrell Henderson assumed the lead-back role in the victory over the disheveled Carolina Panthers. He will likely continue in the role, at least until rookie Kyren Williams returns from injured reserve. The youngster has a great chance to be the starter down the stretch.
