We scour the news around the NFL to bring you what matters most to you and your dynasty team: the most current news on players, both superstars and the relative unknowns, and analysis to decipher the respective situations. These are many of the major stories and are not meant to be an exhaustive look at all the recent happenings around the league.
New England quarterback Mac Jones injured his ankle late in the fourth quarterback but played through the injury. After the game, Adam Schefter tweeted, “Patriots’ QB Mac Jones is believed to have suffered a high-ankle sprain during today’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens, per source. He will undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the diagnosis and determine the severity of the injury.” The Patriots are historically far-from-transparent with injuries, so our only indication will be with official moves. In his Monday morning press conference, coach Bill Belichick told reporters, “Until we get more information, I’m not going to speculate wildly on what it would or wouldn’t be … nothing definitive at this point.” If the injury is a high-ankle sprain, Jones may be forced to be placed on injured reserve. On the day, Jones was under duress from the Ravens defense most of the day. If Jones misses action, Brian Hoyer will start. He represents a large downgrade for the New England receiving options.
Early Sunday morning, Ian Rapoport tweeted, “Trey Lance has a recovering timeline of 4-6 months after he broke his fibula and tore his deltoid and sesamoid ligaments in his ankle. The #49ers remain firmly committed to him, sources say.” This timeline should have Lance healthy and ready for all offseason activities.
While Joe Flacco has played respectably, New York Jets coach told reporters, "As soon as the doctors clear him (Zach Wilson), we will get him on the field." He followed up that statement by saying Wilson is "the future of the organization." The youngster may play in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. As Ian Rapoport tweeted Sunday, “With no setbacks and continued progress as he recovers from a meniscus tear and bone bruise in his knee, #Jets QB Zach Wilson is expected to be cleared by doctors next week, sources say. That puts him in line to play against the Steelers in Week 4.” For fantasy purposes, Flacco has played well enough for his receivers to be fantasy-viable. The Jets have been respectable, even beating the Cleveland Browns.
Sunday, Adam Schefter reported that the San Francisco 49ers "had the parameters of a trade agreement in place" to send Jimmy Garoppolo to the Commanders during the NFL Combine. The deal fell to the side after Garoppolo chose to have shoulder surgery. While it is a moot point at this time given Garoppolo’s re-worked deal, it is further evidence that the 49ers brass was actively trying to trade the veteran quarterback. With Lance’s ankle injury, we still have no closure on who will be the 2023 Week 1 starter … even if the youngster is healthy.
