Sunday MORNING UPDATE:
Check back each Sunday Morning around 10:30AM EST for any updates for the primary cash lineup.
Update #1: 10:36 AM EST Saturday
For the primary cash lineup for Saturday-Monday, we did get some questions whether leaving $500 on the table was a mistake. This was not a mistake, as this is the best lineup that I'm comfortable with and on a short slate, leaving a little bit of salary is not the end of the world. If you want to upgrade to Hayden Hurst from Cade Otton, or upgrade the Baltimore defense those are both options on this slate.
Update #2: 11:00 AM EST Sunday
No changes to the Sunday lineups, but I did just want to speak a little on the FanDuel cancellation of the Saturday slate. While the explanation from FanDuel has been nothing short of unacceptable, these types of things have happened before on all sites. There have been times where DraftKings has been down for several hours and they had to refund everyone. The reason I primarily play on FanDuel is I believe there is a bigger edge. I know most of the "sharper" players spend more time on their DraftKings lineups than they do on FanDuel. Having two operators is good for the DFS community. They owe the community a better explanation than "Due to Tech reasons we had to cancel the slate" that's not good enough, and the community is right to continue to pressure them for a better explanation.
Footballguys is in no way affiliated with FanDuel, we are not compensated from FanDuel to write this article.
SITUATIONS THAT STAND OUT TO THIS WEEK ON THE MAIN SLATE.
- Buffalo (vs MIA) – 27.75 points
- San Francisco (vs SEA) – 26 points
- Minnesota (vs NYG) – 25.75 points
Week 18 Recap
Week 18 was a good one for the Primary Cash Lineups, as I finished in the top 30-35% of all 50/50 contests. Some people reached out and indicated that they may have lost this week. We base the win/loss of this lineup based on a variety of different single entry 50/50’s at varying price points.
Some things to keep an eye on if you may have lost this week.
- Ensuring you’re entering 50/50’s instead of double-ups. Double-ups are higher risk and often have a cash line close to the min-cash of a GPP as often they allow multi-entry which lead to much more difficult competition as the stronger players will buy into these contests multiple times.
Total points scored- 103 points
- QB Josh Allen, BUF, $8,800- 22.76
- RB Tyler Allgeier, ATL, $6,500- 13.5
- RB Jonathan Williams, WAS, $5,000- 5.1
- WR, Ja'Marr Chase, CIN, $8,500- 18.6
- WR Stefon Diggs, BUF, $8,400- 19.9
- WR DK Metcalf, SEA, $7,200- 5.5
- TE Trey McBride, ARI, $5,100- 5.6
- Flex RB Miles Sanders, PHI, $6,700- 3.3
- TD Minnesota Vikings, $3,700- 9
What went right:
- Stefon Diggs finally broke through with a big game as he had 104 yards and a touchdown last week. Diggs had not had a 100-yard performance in six games heading into last week, so to get a strong performance paired with Allen was the key this week.
- While Josh Allen was not great by his standards as he finished with 21.8 points, he did finish as the number three overall quarterback for last week and far above the other two quarterbacks that we considered for the primary cash lineup (Hurts and Burrow).
What went wrong:
- Miles Sanders was disappointing last week, as it seemed that the Eagles were prepared to run a committee backfield in against a poor Giants defense. The Eagles were mostly just coasting through this game this past week as once they got out to a big lead by halftime, they didn’t continue to push which almost cost them the game.
Injuries Create Opportunity:
- Mike Williams has been ruled out with a back injury, which will leave Keenan Allen and Austin Ekeler as the primary targets in Los Angeles. DeAndre Carter will likely see more snaps, but has not been able to take advantage in the past when Williams has been out.
- Lamar Jackson will remain out this week with a knee injury. Tyler Huntley will get the start, although he is less than 100% with a
- One key injury surprise is Raheem Mostert is dealing with a broken thumb that coach Mike McDaniel is calling “serious”. If he’s unable to go, Jeff Wilson would be a fantastic cheap running back.
- Tua Tagovailoa will miss this week after not being cleared for a concussion. While Teddy Bridgewater will be active, it appears in an emergency capacity only as he is dealing with a finger issue and has not been throwing the ball in practice.
Cash Game Strategy- Wildcard Weekend- GPP Focus, Difficult Cash Week
These next two weekends are the best football weekends of the year. However, that does not mean that they are the best DFS weeks of the year. Because this is a week that is chopped up across multiple days, the smaller the slates the more difficult the cash game builds can be.
For cash games this week, try to pick the slate with the most amount of games that is available. So if you’re entering on Saturday, enter the Saturday-Monday slate, if you’re entering on Sunday, try to enter the Sunday-Monday slate. The reason for this is pretty simple, you’re going to want the most amount of options on a given slate to reduce your overlap amongst your competition.
For GPP’s just chase the biggest prize pools, which are going to be on the “Main Slates” on Saturday and Sunday. For these contests, since they are so small, you’re going to need to likely leave some salary on the table, or go with some less popular plays in order to be unique compared to your competition.
Saturday GPP Tips:
- Fade Zay Jones based on his roster percentage being 50%+ at the moment. You can then look towards players in similar price points such as Brandon Aiyuk, Josh Palmer, or even take a chance on Marvin Jones who has seen an increase in targets over the last four weeks and provides a nice savings at $5,500.
- Fade Evan Engram. Similar to Zay Jones, he’s going to be around 50% rostered, and while Engram was great for a 3 game stretch from Week 14-16, he has 30 yards or less in 6 of his last 9 games. Instead, look at paying up for George Kittle who has scored 7 touchdowns over his last four games, or pay down to Colby Parkinson.
- Don’t get fixated on a defense. The two most popular defenses this week will be the 49ers and Seahawks, but playing a defense in the Jaguars vs Chargers game could get you some leverage especially as defensive points can be random at times.
- Play your favorite quarterbacks and running backs regardless of roster percentages. Try to diversify elsewhere at the more volatile positions such as defense, wide receiver, and tight end.
Sunday GPP Tips
- Consider a fade of Buffalo’s wide receivers. If we look at the first two meetings between Buffalo and Miami, it was the running backs and tight ends that did most of the damage against this Miami defense. Stefon Diggs draws Xavien Howard who Diggs has not topped 76 yards in his last five appearances against the Dolphins.
- Look at KJ Osborn. Osborn is only projected to be rostered in about 5% of lineups, and he is a player who is extremely intriguing. He’s on the field for about 75% of the snaps, and has as many red zone targets as Justin Jefferson over the last five weeks.
- Richie James is in a tremendous matchup as he’s facing Chandon Sullivan who has allowed the most receiving yards of any corner this season.
- Fade Mark Andrews. Andrews is priced up because of a Week 17 performance, but he has not topped 53 yards in his other four games with Tyler Huntley this season. Expect Andrews to be around 40% rostered, which is just too high based on his low upside as Huntley has just thrown two total touchdowns in five games.
- Jeff Wilson should be higher rostered than what he currently is trending at. While he’s likely going to be one of the most popular players on this slate as he’s trending around 45%, he really should be between 65-70% rostered, and if that doesn’t change prior to Sunday makes him a strong buy heading into this week. Wilson at $6k, is priced as if Raheem Mostert is going to split carries, and on a short slate reaching value should be achievable for Wilson in this game.
Player Chart
Quarterback
|
||||
Rank | Player | FBG Projection | Salary | Comment |
1 | Tom Brady | 19.3 | $6,800 | The Buccaneers playoff hopes rest on the arm of 45-year-old Tom Brady this week. Brady has finished the season strong as he has averaged 311 yards passing over his last 5 games excluding Week 18 as the Buccaneers benched their starters half way through the game. The offense finally was able to get Mike Evans involved in Week 17 against the Panthers as he had 207 yards and 3 touchdowns after a disappointing year for the 4 time Pro Bowler. The Cowboys rely heavily on their pass rush to help some of their gaps in weaknesses in the secondary, but the Buccaneers have only been sacked 22 times this season which is the lowest amongst any team in the NFL. |
2 | Josh Allen | 25.3 | $9,200 | Josh Allen always needs to be in consideration when it comes to any slate let alone a small one. The challenge is that there is not a ton of value on this slate that paying up for him could cause issues for the rest of your build if some of the high end players end up paying off to their potential. The matchup is one that Allen has dominated as he has averaged 352 yards and 3 touchdowns in these two meetings earlier this season while averaging 62 rushing yards in those contests. If he does that again this week, you're going to want him in your lineup, but with Skylar Thompson starting for Miami can they do enough to force Allen to throw that much? |
3 | Daniel Jones | 19.5 | $7,400 | The passing matchup is a dream for Daniel Jones as the Viking are allowing 280 yards passing for the season which is the second-most in the NFL. The confidence for Jones should be high this week as he threw for 334 yards and 2 touchdowns back in Week 16, and for the Giants to pull an upset this week, they're going to need Jones to have a big game this week. At just $7,400, Jones provides a nice combination of mobility with upside of the passing matchup as he put up 19 FanDuel points back in Week 16. |
4 | Justin Herbert | 18.0 | $7,800 | Herbert is only really playable if you're playing the 2 game Saturday only slate. |
Running Back | ||||
Rank | Player | FBG Projection | Salary | Comment |
1 | Jeff Wilson | 10.7 | $6,000 | Jeff Wilson should be nearly 100% rostered this week at just $6,000. The price is entirely based on the prospects of Raheem Mostert being active this week. With Mostert being out, Wilson should be in a spot where he is the most likely to reach value on this slate. The Dolphins back in Week 15 ran for 181 yards against the Bills and with Skylar Thompson starting this week, the Dolphins are going to have to try to run the ball heavily to have a chance his week. |
2 | Christian McCaffrey | 18.8 | $9,800 | McCaffrey is in a fantastic spot this week. The 49ers are 10-1 since McCaffrey joined the 49ers, and they've been winning incredibly impressively as they've won 8 of those games by more than a touchdown. McCaffrey has scored 7 touchdowns over the last 6 games while scoring in every one of those games while topping 100 yards in 4 of those 6. This week, McCaffrey gets to face a Seahawks team that has been crushed by running backs all season as they are allowing the 5th-most fantasy points to the position on the year and allowed 138 yards and a touchdown to McCaffrey back in Week 15. The Seahawks have allowed 8 100-yard rushers this season. |
3 | Travis Etienne | 14.5 | $7,100 | Travis Etienne has been a bit of a yo-yo in terms of fantasy performances this season, but could not be in a better matchup this postseason. Etienne had a three game stretch from Week 15-17 that he topped 100 total yards in each of those games, but besides those three games, Etienne has failed to top 73 yards and did not score a touchdown in his other 5 games in the second half of the year. This week however, Etienne gets the Chargers who have allowed six of the last eight rusher to top 100 yards with the only two who failed to do so being Zack Moss and Raheem Mostert. Etienne should be in a prime position this week for the Jaguars to look at him to carry them in a difficult passing matchup for Trevor Lawrence. |
4 | Dalvin Cook | 14.1 | $7,800 | The issue with Dalvin Cook is entirely about volume as he is averaging 15.5 carries per game this season compared to 20.8 in the two prior seasons under Mike Zimmer. The matchup is a great one as the Giants are allowing the fourth-most rushing yards per game to opposing running backs and as long as you can win the battle of the offensive and defensive lines there is big game potential as the Giants boast one of the worst run-stopping linebacking groups in the NFL this season. |
5 | Austin Ekeler | 18.2 | $9,000 | With no Mike Williams this week, Austin Ekeler is going to be expected to take on a bigger role in this offense. In his four games this season without Mike Williams, Ekeler has 7 or more receptions in three of those games and has scored three touchdowns. This week, the Chargers get the Jaguars defense which has struggled greatly at stopping receiving running backs as they've allowed the fourth-most receiving yards to opposing running backs this season with 47 receiving yards per game. The issue for Ekeler just comes down to price, as at $9,000 he's prohibitively expensive who has 40 yards or fewer rushing in 9 games this season. Ekeler's value is in scoring touchdowns as he has 18 touchdowns on the season. He's a great pivot off of Christian McCaffrey in GPP's and if you can't find a lineup that you like going up to McCaffrey then he's a solid discounted option. |
6 | Saquon Barkley | 16.7 | $8,800 | Saquon Barkley on any given week can completely turn a slate on its head and be the key piece needed to win a GPP. The challenge is predicting when those breakaway runs will occur is sometimes not matchup dependent and Barkley's floor is low for a player who is as expensive as he is based on that upside. Barkley is a fantastic GPP play, and if you wanted to play him on a Sunday only contest, he could be a game changer, but there are enough options on the larger slates to not have to go with Barkley this week. In their first meeting, Barkley was great as he had 133 yards and a touchdown while amounting 8 receptions. If he can do that again, he's going to be a player you're going to need in your lineup. |
Wide Receiver | ||||
Rank | Player | FBG Projection | Salary | Comment |
1 | Justin Jefferson | 17.3 | $9,000 | Of all of the wide receivers on this slate, Jefferson has the most upside on this slate and is not that much more expensive than JaMarr Chase or Stefon Diggs. Coming off of a 133-yard game against the Giants in Week 16, and the Giants do not have the corners to stop Jefferson as 15 wide receivers have topped 15 FanDuel points or more this season against the Giants. |
2 | Chris Godwin | 13.0 | $7,200 | Chris Godwin is a player with a high floor simply because of his volume totals that he sees each week. Excluding Week 18 where the Buccaneers rested their starters for a portion of the game, Godwin has 8 or more targets in 11 straight games. The only issue with Godwin is the lack of touchdowns as he has just three on the season. To get a player who you can pencil in for between 6-8 receptions for 60-80 yards as a floor is already at 1.5x with touchdown upside as well as yardage upsides above those numbers. |
3 | Zay Jones | 9.8 | $6,300 | The fantasy community loves to play Zay Jones, as this has been a trend all season long and he is likely going to be higher than 50% rostered in some contests this week based on his price. The challenge is that outside of a few notable games, his floor is quite low as we've seen over the last three weeks where he has failed to top 25 yards receiving. The matchup is not a particularly easy one against the Chargers who do boast a better pass defense than their run defense, so you're really hoping that he is able to produce another one of his big performances against the Chargers as he had 10 receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown in their first meeting. He is a fine punt play on a short slate based on his upside, but he is by no means a must-start as it's just as likely that he finishes with under 25 yards than it is that he finishes with over 70. |
4 | Richie James | 8.6 | $6,100 | Richie James will be matched up against Chandon Sullivan who has allowed the most receiving yards to opposing wide receivers this season. |
5 | Mike Evans | 12.7 | $7,700 | Mike Evans is point chasing this week, although the upside is undeniable as he is coming off of a 207 yard 3 touchdown performance that the Buccaneers will undoubtedly be looking to build upon after Evans had somewhat of a disappointing second half of the season including a streak of 11 games without a touchdown. The floor is low, but the upside can change the slate and at a price $7,700, he's a discount off of players with similar risk such as Chase or Diggs. |
6 | Stefon Diggs | 15.8 | $8,600 | Diggs broke out of a long slump as he had failed to top 100 yards in six straight games prior to Week 18 where Diggs had 104 yards and a touchdown. The one great thing about Diggs is his touchdown numbers as he has 11 touchdowns on the season. Diggs does carry some risk here as Miami has found the answer to shut down Diggs as he has not topped 76 yards in his last five games against the Dolphins. |
7 | Gabe Davis | 9.8 | $6,200 | Davis is a solid pivot off of Stefon Diggs in a small GPP as he has tremendous upside as he's shown in last year's playoffs along with earlier this season against Pittsburgh where he had 171 yards and 2 touchdowns. His floor is fairly low as he is averaging just 3 receptions per game over his last four contests. |
8 | Joshua Palmer | 8.6 | $6,500 | Joshua Palmer has averaged 53.3 yards per game in the three games this season without Mike Williams, but what is even more intriguing is the volume that he saw in those games. In those three contests, Palmer saw 11, 8, and 7 targets which at $6,500 make him a solid floor receiver who's limitation may be that he doesn't have the upside of some of the other receivers on this slate. |
Tight End | ||||
Rank | Player | FBG Projection | Salary | Comment |
1 | TJ Hockenson | 10.2 | $7,000 | TJ Hockenson is an elite tight end on this slate that is priced for what most people think would be a no brainer compared to his production, but there are some things to be cautious of that may have you choosing to spend down at the position this week. Excluding Week 18, Hockenson has 59 or more yards in three of his last four games, but the problem with Hockenson is the lack of touchdowns as he has just three on the season and just 6 red zone targets over the last 6 games is certainly a concern for a $7,000 tight end. Hockenson's breakout performance was against this same Giants defense in which he had 109 yards and 2 touchdowns back in Week 16. |
2 | George Kittle | 10 | $7,700 | George Kittle has formed quite a relationship with Brock Purdy as of late as Kittle has been a red zone machine as of late scoring 7 touchdowns over his last 4 games while topping 90 yards in 2 of those 4 games. The only problem for Kittle is the price, as at $7,700, that is a prohibitive price based on the lack of value on this slate. |
3 | Evan Engram | 8.7 | $5,700 | Evan Engram has been hit or miss this season, but will be popular this week based on his upside and price. While Engram has the yardage upside as much as anyone on this slate as he has topped 100-yards twice this year, he has only scored four touchdowns on the year and only has 10 red zone targets on the season. |
4 | Cade Otton | 5.5 | $4,700 | Otton is a punt play this week as he has 7 red zone targets over his last three games. While the touchdown hasn't come, you're entirely just chasing a touchdown in this game while being able to spend up elsewhere on this slate. |
