Hi Folks,

We do a ton of insightful, thoughtful, and serious features here at Footballguys with smart people thinking deeply for you.

This is not one of those features.

This is Random Shots and it's a few pages of me downloading my goofy and dysfunctional mental hard drive that gets stuffed with way too many random items from too many hours watching, reading about, and listening to football every weekend and throughout the week. It's the only way I manage. Here's hoping it has some value for you.

We'll see. Now let's get to it.

Not sure if you've heard, but DeAndre Hopkins and Kyler Murray had a day Sunday.

The video was awesome but the local Cardinals radio call was epic.

From SI.com:

"Dave Pasch, who calls NBA and NFL games for ESPN, had the excellent play-by-play call, but it was analyst Ron Wolfley who took things over the top.

"You can't cover NUKE. You're not gonna be able to cover him. Throw the ball up. That's what Kyler Murrary did. He extended the play with his legs and just chucked that thing up into the air into the desert sky, baby, and D-Hop brought it down. TOUCHDOOOOOWN!"

Hopkins tweeted the already iconic picture and offered a free signed jersey for whoever came up with the best meme or caption.

On cue, the person running Tom Brady's social media proved once again they're underpaid with their reply...

Myles Garrett is a problem.

I talked a while back about the Cowboys and how they normally wear the white jerseys at home. Because I'm a football nerd. Apparently, some of y'all are too. Footballguy Todd Karfs sent in this article shedding some light on the history and "curse" of the blue jerseys. Because I know you need to know this type of thing.

We all enjoyed Philip Rivers' "tackle" attempt from a couple of weeks ago.

What I love about Rivers is he owned it. Talking with Michael Irvin, he laughed just as much as Irvin as they broke down the film.

"It was not the best display of athleticism. 20 years ago, I would have made that play."

As he talked about the (then) upcoming game against Tennessee, he was clearly honored as Irvin talked about Titans QB Ryan Tannehill wearing number 17 because he admired Rivers growing up.

Rivers seemed moved and said, "He’s representing the heck out of 17"

That's pretty rad.

Music Note of the Week is a super fan band called Vulfpeck. They've got all kinds of cool ideas on the music industry and crowdfunding and more. Plus they're fun and talented. More of this please.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote:

Tampa Bay TE Rob Gronkowski was asked about what made the back shoulder fade connection with Brady special.

He said,

“It’s like a saying my mom used to say: It must be maple syrup because butter don’t drizzle like that,” Gronkowski said. “You don’t got much time to react and syrup drizzles. You gotta make that play. A stick of butter, it’s a block. You gotta put it in the microwave to melt it. That just takes too long. You gotta make that play right away, baby, and that’s why I’m like the maple syrup. That’s why she always used to say that, because I’m quick with it. I just drizzle all over the place.”

100% chance Gronkowski's getting drug tested this week.

Well, mystery solved.

Jimmy Fallon put him up to it. And some other players too.

Conventional Wisdom: "When Cam Newton gets to New England, he'll tone things down."

Fun fact. If you google "Alex Trebek", it will provide the response: Did you mean “Who is Alex Trebek?” That's so good. Thanks to Footballguy Shannon Martin for that one.

Plus, Adam Thielen crushed Monday night with these.

I'm guessing this is not how they drew it up.

Panthers tight end Colin Thompson scored a touchdown on his first NFL reception Sunday. And handed the ball to a lineman to spike. That's a stud.

When offensive linemen dream, it looks like #73 here.

I regularly defend officiating. But this is pretty clear. Especially after a review.

Myles Jack always has the NBA if this football thing doesn't work out.

He's officially "Flop Jack" from here on.

Great players do the little things. The deception on this play from both Rodgers and Adams is beautiful.

I'm with Kevin here.

I'm a regular critic of Baker Mayfield. But credit where credit is due.

This is why we can't quit Jordan Reed.

Seems about right.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Thielen didn't even realize he flipped the ball like this.

I've defended Matt Nagy longer than most. But I'm having a hard time arguing with this now...
