WEEK 18 PLAYS
Josh Allen Under 302.5 Passing Yards
Even though Josh Allen won’t win the MVP, there is a strong case that he is the league MVP this season. Allen has thrown for 300+ yards in three of his last four games, and four of his last six, but this Ravens defense is one that is going to be one of the most difficult he has faced all season. On paper, the Ravens might have the most talent at the cornerback position with Marlon Humphrey, Marcus Peters, and Jimmy Smith. The issue for the Ravens has been health as all three players have missed time throughout the season. The Ravens have allowed 300+ yards three times this season (Patrick Mahomes II, Dwayne Haskins in garbage time, and Baker Mayfield). The only game in which a healthy Ravens team has allowed 300+ is against Patrick Mahomes II. The Ravens are coming off an elite performance shutting down Tennessee and Ryan Tannehill last week.
Kareem Hunt Over 31.5 Rushing Yards-
This seems to be a number that is too low this week for Kareem Hunt. The Browns are a team that are going to need a lot to go right against the Chiefs as they are 10 point underdogs this week, but keeping the Chiefs off balance with the receiving back of Hunt gives them an opportunity to win this week. Expect the Browns to take a very similar path that the Falcons did in Week 16, where they had a split backfield of Ito Smith and Brian Hill as Hill is the better receiving back and while neither had a monster game, they both topped the 31.5 rushing yard mark and averaged 4.8 yards-per-carry between the two running backs. This is a Kansas City defense that you need to try to get to the second level to have running success and misdirection and timing can help as Chris Jones/Frank Clark’s primary thought process is pass rush. Expect Hunt to be involved in some counters and draw plays to keep this defense balanced.
Patrick Mahomes II Over 16.5 Rushing Yards
When it comes to the playoffs, the Chiefs start unveiling new threats and plays and one of those is the ability for Mahomes to take off and scramble. Last year, during the playoffs, Mahomes ran an average of 8 times per game for 45 yards per game. We’ve started to see it in the last quarter of the 2020 season as well as he has topped 20 yards in four of his last five contests. The Browns are going to have their hands full with trying to stop this elite passing offense, and won’t have the luxury of putting a spy on Mahomes this week. The only concern is whether Kansas City gets up enough that they won’t need to run with Mahomes, but if Cleveland can keep it close even for a little bit, Mahomes is a very underrated athlete and many people don’t think about his running ability, but he can easily pick up 16.5 yards in one run.
Aaron Jones Under 68.5 Rushing Yards
Aaron Jones had a tremendous finish to his 2020 season as over his last six games of the year, he averaged 95 yards rushing per game, and topped 68.5 yards in five of those six games. The problem is that the back half of the year, Jamaal Williams was largely injured and A.J. Dillon dealing with Covid. The Packers love to spread the ball around to their running backs as shown in Jones’ first 8 games of the year he averaged just 67 yards rushing per game. The Packers outside of the Tennessee snow game, have not fully unleashed A.J. Dillon either, and if he plays a role, we could see a backfield that is split three ways instead of just two with Williams and Jones. The bigger problem for the Packers is that they are dealing with some offensive line issues as
Jared Goff Under 209.5 Passing Yards
There are a lot of questions heading into this week surrounding Jared Goff and the Rams passing attack and how they will react in cold weather. Goff has played just two NFL games in freezing temperatures and Saturday is expected to be his third as he heads into Green Bay. Goff in his prior two games has not fared well. In his first game he threw for 201 yards completing just 50% of his passes and was sacked five times. In his second game Goff threw 44 times, completing just 20 of those attempts for 180 yards, and threw four interceptions. Making this a little bit more difficult is how is his thumb going to hold up in cold weather as he just had thumb surgery less than three weeks ago and was not healthy enough to start last week. Complicating matters even further is Cooper Kupp will be less than 100% if he plays at all with a knee issue in what is being called a true game-time decision.
