Wednesday Media Updates

***Derrick Henry was limited in practice with a hamstring injury. No local writer commented on the addition or speculated on the severity of Henry's injury. Hopefully, it's reassuring that Henry was still in the game late in the fourth quarter of a 23 point blowout last week. Thursday practice participation will tell us whether this is a new injury or a simple maintenance situation.

***Tyreek Hill returned to a full practice. Andy Reid was optimistic about Hill's ability to play this week and the Chiefs will test Hill early this week and see how he responds. If he continues to practice through Friday, it'll be a good sign he's ready for a full workload.

***George Kittle did not practice after a productive 38 snaps in his return last week. He should be expected to see a similar workload this week.

***James Conner is still not practicing. He told reporters he would not return and risk another setback that could require surgery. Until he returns to a full early week practice, he's unlikely to play. Week 14 is now his earliest possible return.

***JuJu Smith-Schuster is no longer in concussion protocol but a knee contusion is preventing him from practicing. He remains questionable to return this week.

***Zach Ertz played through a hamstring strain last week. He didn't practice on Wednesday. It's not yet clear whether the absence was more maintenance and rest or treatment and concern.

***Damien Williams is unlikely to play after missing practice with a rib injury suffered before the bye week.

***Jordan Howard has still not been cleared for contact. Doug Pederson told reporters Howard was improving but still needed to regain strength. He remains on the doubtful side of questionable.

***Phillip Dorsett is likely to return. He's completed the return to play protocol and should gain clearance from an independent neurologist before game time.

THURSDAY NIGHT INJURY EXPECTATIONS

Here are the key offensive players listed on the practice participation or game status report for Thursday Night Football:

Chicago at Detroit

***Detroit is down to their third-string quarterback. Matthew Stafford is still out with fractures in his back. Jeff Driskel was ruled out after suffering a hamstring injury last week and not showing enough in practice to be declared ready to play. The Lions listed T.J. Hockenson (shoulder) and edge Trey Flowers (concussion) questionable but both are expected to play.

***The Bears are still without TE Adam Shaheen and LB Danny Trevathan. The offensive line will now be missing tackle Bobby Massie. WR Taylor Gabriel is out with a concussion.

Buffalo at Dallas

***Dallas is as healthy as they've been in weeks. Multiple offensive linemen are having their practice reps managed but are off the injury reports and will play. The defense will be missing middle linebacker Leighton Vander Esch and interior lineman Antwaun Woods.

***The Bills could be without two offensive linemen. Tackle Ty Nsekhe remains out with an ankle injury and Mitch Morse is questionable with a hand injury. Robert Foster looked to have a multiple-week hamstring strain but was able to return to limited practices. On a short week, he remains unlikely to play.

New Orleans at Atlanta

***Julio Jones did not practice all week with a shoulder injury and is questionable. The Falcons plan to re-evaluate Jones on Thursday. Dan Quinn told reporters Jones will play if he has enough strength and range of motion in the shoulder. Shoulder sprains are difficult injuries for a wide receiver. While they can be managed on game day, there remains a high risk of aggravation and a high probability of a limited catch radius. If Jones is active, it's possible his snap count will be limited to high leverage situations.

***Devonta Freeman returns after a two week absence with a foot sprain after two full practices. Austin Hooper is out this week.

***The Saints are without two critical offensive linemen. Tackle Terron Armstead suffered a high ankle sprain last week and joins guard Andrus Peat on the sideline. Top cornerback Marshon Lattimore returned to practice but was limited. Sean Payton refused to discuss Lattimore's status on Wednesday.

Early week practice participation and playing expectations

The Wednesday and Thursday practice participation reports are our first chance to see which players each NFL team is limiting in practice after the previous week's games. Players limited in mid-week practice aren't necessarily in danger of missing that week's game. But they all need to be watched closely.
