Injury Expectations | Midweek Update | Week 5

Wednesday Media Updates

***Saquon Barkley continues to progress in his rehab from a high ankle sprain. He's not expected to play this week but there's already some discussion about whether he can recover quickly enough to play next Thursday night. I'll have much more on Barkley in Monday's injury review article.

***James Conner injured his left ankle on the first run of the second half and limped off. While he returned to the game, he required evaluation on Tuesday and did not practice Wednesday. Conner told a radio host his ankle was fine and he's likely to practice on Thursday and prepare to play this week.

***Tyreek Hill has been cleared for individual drills but is not ready for contact. It's unlikely he'll play this week but Week 6 is now looking probable.

***The Packers wouldn't discuss Davante Adams' status on Wednesday. The generally conservative Green Bay medical staff is unlikely to risk an aggravation to Adams' toe injury. Expect Adams to be inactive this week.

***Marlon Mack did not practice on Wednesday. Frank Reich told reporters Mack did not return to Sunday's game because the Colts were in two-minute mode and Mack is not part of that package. The Colts hold even the most minor injuries out of practice until later in the week. Tentatively expect Mack to play as he did through a calf injury earlier this season.

***Sam Darnold was not cleared for contact on Monday and told the media his spleen remained enlarged. It's unlikely there will be enough interval improvement for him to play this week but the Jets have scheduled another exam for Friday.

***Josh Allen returned to football-related activity on Wednesday. While a clear sign he's progressing through the return-to-play protocol, it's too soon to expect him to be cleared for contact by the end of the week. Thursday and Friday practice participation will be informative.

THURSDAY NIGHT INJURY EXPECTATIONS

Here are the key offensive players listed on the practice participation or game status report for Thursday Night Football:

Los Angeles Rams at Seattle

***The Rams are healthy and full strength this week. Todd Gurley played a season-high 74 snaps on Sunday and was not limited in practice this week.

***The Seahawks are also healthy. Seattle will have Rashaad Penny available after a full week of practice. The offensive and defensive lines could both be at full strength for the first time all season. Tackle Duane Brown (biceps) and edge Ezekiel Ansah (back) are both likely to play. Guard Ethan Pocic (back) may also be back after missing two games.

Early week practice participation and playing expectations

The Wednesday and Thursday practice participation reports are our first chance to see which players each NFL team are limiting in practice after the previous week's games. Players limited in mid-week practice aren't necessarily in danger of missing that week's game. But they all need to be watched closely.
