WEDNESDAY MEDIA UPDATES

***Melvin Gordon was participating in individual drills on Wednesday. There's no official word on his status this week. Expect the team to see how Gordon responded to Wednesday's workout and decide whether he's ready to continue practicing. If he's doing as much or more by the end of the week, he should be able to see a reasonable workload this week.

***Dalvin Cook managed a limited Wednesday practice after saying he didn't want "to do anything stupid" on Monday. We're back to where Cook was two weeks ago when he tested his hamstring in an early week practice. If Cook is cleared to do more than rehab later this week, we may see him return. It's still more likely Cook rests this week, increases his conditioning through the bye week, and returns full strength in Week 11.

***A.J. Green minimized his toe injury in the locker room after Sunday's game. Since then, he's been seen in a walking boot in the Cincinnati locker room and has been sent for additional imaging studies. That's not ideal but also isn't clear evidence of a multiple-week injury. There's still a good chance he can play next week but watch for any news of concern through the week.

***It's not clear whether Mike Evans has a significant injury. He left favoring his left knee after a route in which he took one unusual step and then stepped on the foot of the defensive back covering him. He reached for the back of his knee and had difficulty bearing weight getting off the field. It's usually a good sign when there are no reports of imaging studies or concerns. Expect him to play this weekend but watch his practice participation closely.

***According to Sean McVay, Cooper Kupp could've played last week had the Rams chosen to push his recovery. He has "a very good chance to play this week" assuming his practice participation goes smoothly. His return to individual drills on Wednesday is an excellent start.

***There's also good news on Tyreek Hill, who left Sunday's game with a groin strain. He was back fully practicing on Wednesday and looks likely to play -- barring a late-week setback.

***The Patriots asked Sony Michel to test his injured knee last Saturday, knowing their next chance to work him out with distractions leading into and recovery after the Monday night game would be Wednesday. It's a great sign Michel was able to return to practice but expect him to remain limited throughout the week and be listed questionable after Friday's practice. With luck, the team will let Michel address the media on Friday.

***It's early but I'm expecting Stefon Diggs and Keke Coutee to be available this week. Coutee is more likely to need another week to recover than Diggs. Thursday practice will be informative for both.

THURSDAY NIGHT INJURY EXPECTATIONS

Here are the key players listed on the practice participation or game status report for Thursday Night Football:

OAKLAND AT SAN FRANCISCO

***Matt Breida continues to play through a frequently aggravated high ankle sprain. Limited in practice again all week, Breida is likely to go despite the short week to recover. Pierre Garcon also returned to limited practices and will return to play.

***San Francisco will be without two key back seven defenders. Reuben Foster tweaked a hamstring last week and did not practice this week. Jaquiski Tartt aggravated a shoulder injury that's troubled him all year and also didn't practice. Cornerback Richard Sherman should play through a calf strain.

***The Raiders could get guard Kelechi Osemele back this week. He was reportedly moving around better in his brace this week after missing three games with a knee injury.

EARly week PRACTICE PARTICIPATION & EARLY EXPECTATIONS

The Wednesday and Thursday practice participation reports are our first chance to see which players each NFL team are limiting in practice after the previous week's games. Players limited in mid-week practice aren't necessarily in danger of missing that week's game. But they all need to be watched closely.
