In this weekly DraftKings article, we will discuss some cash game stacks that should provide a high floor for your 50-50 and H2H cash game contests. These stacks are safe to use in your GPP tournaments as well, but they will most likely carry a high ownership percentage. In the second half of this article, we will review some lower-owned GPP stacks along with a defensive stack.
$$ Cash GAME STACKS $$
Carolina Panthers versus New Orleans Saints
QB Cam Newton $6,600 with WR Kelvin Benjamin $6,700 (Cash/GPP)
Alternate/Super Stacks: RB Christian McCaffrey $6,100 (Cash/GPP), WR Devin Funchess $4,200 (GPP) and/or TE Ed Dickson $2,700 (GPP)
The chalk offense to stack in Week three will be the Panthers against the Saints, who are allowing an NFL worst 388.5 passing yards/per game and 32.5 points/per game. They have also allowed three passing touchdowns in each of the first two weeks. The Saints have been severely impacted by the loss of cornerback Delvin Breaux to a broken fibula during the preseason. This game jumps off the page as a “get right game” for Cam Newton, who has accounted for 16 touchdowns against the Saints in their past five matchups. Without Greg Olsen in the mix, additional touches are now available for Christian McCaffrey, Kelvin Benjamin, and Devin Funchess. McCaffrey projects favorably in this matchup as the Saints have allowed the third most fantasy points to opposing running backs thus far. Benjamin has a five-inch height advantage over Saints cornerbacks P.J. Williams and Marshon Lattimore. He has the potential for a multiple touchdown afternoon. Funchess and Ed Dickson are more GPP plays but can easily return value at their salaries if they score a touchdown. Keep an eye on the injury report as Benjamin was held out of practice on Wednesday due to a knee injury.
Philadelphia Eagles Stack vs. New York Giants
QB Carson Wentz $5,900 with TE Zach Ertz $5,000 (Cash/GPP)
Alternate/Super Stack: WR Alshon Jeffery $5,900 (GPP)
The Eagles passing game has impressed with Carson Wentz passing for over 300 yards and multiple touchdowns in each of his first two games. This is a tad surprising as head coach Doug Pederson is known to focus on the offensive rushing game. Perhaps the coaching staff realizes that the Eagles best chance to succeed is through the air. Wentz is underpriced as the 15th most expensive quarterback on DraftKings as he should be $500-$700 more expensive than his current $5,900 salary. Zach Ertz will continue to be a popular option with multiple injuries at the tight end position throughout the league. He has been a solid receiving option for Wentz since the departure of Jordan Matthews. The Giants have struggled to contain tight ends allowing Jason Witten (seven receptions for 59 yards and one touchdown) and Eric Ebron (five receptions for 42 yards and one touchdown) to post strong performances this season.
GPP STACKS
Here are some GPP stacks that should carry a low ownership percentage but provide multi-touchdown upside.
Oakland Raiders Stack at Washington Redskins
QB Derek Carr $6,800 with WR Jared Cook $3,100 (GPP)
Alternate/Super Stacks: TE Michael Crabtree $7,400 (GPP)
Correlation Play: WR Terrelle Pryor Sr. $5,900 (GPP)
The Raiders offense has started fast with an NFL leading 71 points scored through the first two weeks. Derek Carr has been elite and is positioned to take the next step and finish as top three fantasy quarterback this season. The Redskins defense will show little resistance as they are ranked the seventh worst against the pass and sixth worst against opposing tight ends. They surrendered nine receptions for 104 yards to Philadelphia in Week one and four receptions for 104 yards to Los Angeles Rams in Week two. Jared Cook is very affordable at $3,100 and provides you with exposure to the highest projected game total of the week at 54.5 points. Cook has 11 targets through the first two weeks and has emerged as the number three option in the Raiders passing attack. His breakout game is coming as he just missed out on a 56-yard touchdown pass last week.
Detroit Lions Stack vs. Atlanta Falcons
QB Matt Stafford $6,200 with WR Golden Tate $6,900 (GPP)
Alternate/Super Stacks: TE Eric Ebron $3,300 (GPP), WR Kenny Golladay $4,600 (GPP)
Correlation Play: RB Devonta Freeman $6,700 (GPP)
Expect the Lions offense to get overlooked this week as many will gravitate towards the Panthers, Patriots, Raiders and Packers offenses. This game has sneaky shootout potential that could make an impact in GPP tournaments this week. Make sure you are utilizing FootballGuys staff writer Steve Buzzard’s ownership projections as he has Golden Tate currently at 5% in Mid-Size GPP tournaments. Tate has asserted himself as the lead receiver for the Lions as he has double-digit targets in five out of his past seven games. Eric Ebron is another cheap tight end option that you can include in a Lions super stack. Ebron hauled in all five of his targets last week for 42 yards and one touchdown, which equals his touchdown total of all of 2016. Without Anquan Boldin (Eight touchdowns last season) in the mix, expect Ebron to continue to be a reliable option in the red zone.
DEFENSIVE STACKS (Cash/GPP Tournaments)
There is one defensive stack that stands out this weekend and can be used in Cash Games or GPP tournaments.
Miami Dolphins at New York Jets
RB Jay Ajayi $7,700 with D/ST Miami Dolphins $3,700 (Cash/GPP)
As expected the Jets defense has struggled thus far allowing an NFL worst 185 rushing yards/per game and 33 points/per game. They surrendered three rushing touchdowns to the Raiders last week and one rushing touchdown opening weekend to the Bills. DraftKings has priced Jay Ajayi up as the third-highest RB but he is still very much in play due to his high floor. He had an impressive workload with 30 touches against the Chargers last week for 126 total yards. If he receives 75% of that amount of touches against the Jets, he will likely crack 100 rushing yards and find the end zone at least once. The Dolphins defense makes a strong correlation play as the Jets are likely to be playing from behind during the second half.
