Yo guys guess what? No significant Chargers got hurt this week. We're turning over a new leaf. Oops, not supposed to use the word leaf anywhere near the word Chargers...
Let's get to the picks...!
Week 6 Picks
Denver (-2.5) at San Diego
Not only will the Chargers cover the spread in this game; they'll win it outright. Why? Because it makes no sense why they would win this game, that's why. They've been right there in every game they've played this season, they continue to make a mockery of past Chargers teams who invented new ways to lose every week, and the only good thing to come out of another loss would be that Mike McCoy would lose his job. So they'll do what the Chargers did years ago when they beat the Raiders in Week 17 and saved Norv Turner's job for another pitiful season. They'll win this game, saving McCoy, and ensuring the team makes zero strides towards relevance in 2017. Can't wait!
Pick: Chargers
Buffalo (-7.5) vs. San Francisco
Feels like a point or two too high for a team that doesn't exactly instill confidence in its point-scoring ability sans Sammy Watkins. Plus there's the whole unknown factor with Kaepernick starting for the first time in this offense. Just way too many variables from that decision alone, for me to feel comfortable laying this many points against them.
Pick: Niners
Tennessee (-6.5) vs. Cleveland
We generally have a few of these every week. The whole, "yeah the Browns stink but I'm not laying a touchdown with the Titans" kind of games.
Pick: Browns
Chicago (-1.5) vs. Jacksonville
Here's another one - whoever was the favorite in this game, I was taking the points.
Pick: Jaguars
Carolina (-3.5) at New Orleans
Is it time we acknowledge the obvious, that the Panthers in 2016 are pretty much what we thought the Panthers were going to be in 2015? They can't get out of their own way, everyone is getting hurt, they're losing close games, the defense can't stop anyone, and now you're going to lay points in the Superdome in a short week against a Saints team coming off a bye week? Yeah okay.
Pick: Saints
Philadelphia (-2.5) at Washington
The Redskins got stomped by the Steelers and then beaten by Dallas, two quality teams. They've also won a tough divisional game and beat the Ravens in Baltimore a week ago. Philly, meanwhile, still feels like they're playing a little over their heads (which last week's loss to Detroit illustrated). I know I'm not taking a whole lot of favorites so far, but I'm also not that comfortable laying points on the road in a divisional rivalry game with a rookie quarterback.
Pick: Redskins
Pittsburgh (-7.5) at Miami
Normally I'd say this is a lot of points to be laying on the road for a team that just got its doors blown off two weeks ago. But the Steelers have a strong propensity to kick the asses of bad teams, and the Dolphins have this uncanny knack of being horrible. I think those two events will converge this week, and this one won't be pretty.
Pick: Steelers
Detroit (-2.5) vs. Los Angeles
The Lions are favored against anyone? Take the points. I hope you traded for Todd Gurley already, because he won't be for sale after this week.
Pick: Rams
New York Giants (-2.5) vs. Baltimore
This makes no sense. The Giants kinda stink, and the Ravens are kinda good. Baltimore is also coming off of back to back tough losses. They'll pull this one out outright.
Pick: Ravens
New England (-8.5) vs. Cincinnati
Are the Patriots 8.5 points better than the Bengals? Probably not. But are the Patriots and revenge Brady 8.5 points better than the Bengals? Pretty sure yes.
Pick: Patriots
Oakland (-1.5) vs. Kansas City
This has officially gotten out of hand. The Raiders winning close games late with comebacks and smart play and good luck? Seriously making me want to puke. The Raiders are pretty legit, but the Chiefs will set them back a bit this week.
Pick: Chiefs
Green Bay (-4.5) vs. Dallas
Toughest game of the week for me to pick. The Packers are on probation though until they can show that they are actually one of the best teams in the league and not just an impostor.
Pick: Cowboys
Seattle (-6.5) vs. Atlanta
What does Atlanta have to do to gain any respect? For that matter, what does Seattle have to do to lose any? I haven't gotten on-board yet but it still feels like there's time to find value in the Falcons, who just keep beating up on everyone they play. Are people just not noticing?
Pick: Falcons
Houston (-3.5) vs. Indianapolis
Every year, there's that one first round pick that just goes absolutely bonkers and wins fantasy leagues almost singlehandedly. For me this year, that player was Lamar Miller. I hate this year.
Pick: Texans
Arizona (-7.5) vs. New York Jets
I mean it's pretty much rock-bottom for the Jets. Decker out for the year, horrid start to the season, coach on the hot seat, no Yankees or Mets in the playoffs to take the media coverage off, and to top it all off, they get to take on an angry team that seems like it's just about to find its stride in a nationally televised game. Recipe for blowout city.
