In this weekly DraftKings article, we will discuss some FAT STACKS (Cash Game Stacks) that should provide a high floor for your 50-50 and H2H cash game contests. These stacks are safe to use in your GPP tournaments as well, but they may carry a high ownership percentage. In the second half of this article, it’s all about A Dollar and a Dream. DraftKings will be crowning another Fantasy Football Millionaire this weekend! For just a $20 entry, you have an opportunity to win some life changing money!
FAT STACK$ ($$ Cash GAME STACKS $$)
San Diego Chargers Stack at Indianapolis Colts
QB Philip Rivers $6,700 with RB Melvin Gordon $5,800
The San Diego Chargers/Indianapolis Colts game is the prime fantasy matchup on the Sunday DraftKings slate. Expect the scoreboard to be busy with the highest game total of the day at 51.5 total points. Many Chargers are underpriced on DraftKings due to their respective matchup vs. the injury depleted Colts defense. Philip Rivers checks in as the 10th highest priced QB with a DraftKings salary of $6700. With the knee injury to RB Danny Woodhead, Melvin Gordon will see a bump in his overall touches. In 2015, Woodhead averaged 11.1 touches/per game. Last week after Woodhead exited the game early, Gordon picked up the slack with 27 total touches vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars defense. Without any other reliable RBs on their roster, Gordon will be a volume back moving forward and is severely underpriced with a DraftKings salary of $5,800. As David Dodds mentioned recently in his blog, in the past two weeks RBs have amassed these totals vs. the Colts: 51 carries, 236 yards (4.6 yards per carry) 3 TDs and 15 receptions, 155 yards (10.3 yards per catch), 2 TDs. Gordon stands out as the top overall play this weekend. By rostering a Rivers/Gordon stack, you are locking up a piece of all of the Chargers offensive touchdowns vs. the Colts defense.
Pittsburgh Steelers Stack at Philadelphia Eagles
RB DeAngelo Williams $7,500 with WR Antonio Brown $9,600
Look for the Pittsburgh Steelers offense to bounce back in a big way this Sunday at the Philadelphia Eagles. The Steelers featured DeAngelo Williams with 36 touches last week vs. the Cincinnatti Bengals and 32 touches vs. the Washington Redskins in Week 1. With Le’Veon Bell missing one more game due to suspension, Williams will have one more week to shoulder a heavy workload. The Eagles have benefited from two cake matchups, Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears, to start the season. Expect business to be boomin’ against the Eagles secondary this week! Antonio Brown should carry a lower ownership percentage as usual as he let many fantasy owners down last week. Williams and Brown both have the potential for multiple-touchdown upside this week. By stacking Williams with Brown you provide your lineup with both a high floor and a high ceiling, which is essential for cash games.
Miami Dolphins Stack vs. Cleveland Browns
QB Ryan Tannehill $6,200 with Dolphins defense $3,000
The 0-2 Cleveland Browns visit the 0-2 Miami Dolphins in their home opener this Sunday. Expect the Dolphins to play with a sense of urgency in this game. Ryan Tannehill played well during the second half last week in New England finishing with 387 passing yards and 2 touchdowns, good for 27.9 DraftKings points. Dolphins RB Arian Foster suffered a groin injury last week and did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. If Foster is scratched this week, the Dolphins will lean on the passing game rather than relying on unproven RB Jay Ajayi. The Browns defense allowed 2 passing touchdowns to both Carson Wentz and Joe Flacco over the past two weeks. The Dolphins defense will be the chalk this weekend as they are underpriced with a DraftKings salary of only $3,000. In this matchup, it is best to roster the Dolphins defense and eat the chalk. The train wreck that is the Cleveland Browns will be starting their 3rd QB in the past 3 weeks, rookie Cody Kessler. The Browns also lost rookie WR Corey Coleman to a broken hand in practice this past Wednesday. Josh Gordon will remain out 2 more weeks due to his suspension. If and when the Browns fall behind early, Kessler will have to take to the air in a trial by combat. I select the Dolphins defense as my champion in that matchup!
A Dollar and A DREAM (GPP STACKS)
Here are some GPP stacks that should carry a low ownership percentage but provide multi-touchdown upside.
Tennessee Titans Stack vs. Oakland Raiders
QB Marcus Mariota $5,900 with TE Delanie Walker $5,000 or WR Tajae Sharpe $4,700
Correlation Play: Amari Cooper $7,700 or Michael Crabtree $6,000
The Oakland Raiders have allowed 69 points over the first two weeks and are now a weekly defense to target. After the first 2 weeks, QBs have been averaging 71% completion percentage vs. the Oakland defense. They have been scorched through the air allowing 423 passing yards to Drew Brees and 334 passing yards to Matt Ryan. Last week, Atlanta Falcons TEs amassed 10 receptions for 180 yards and 1 touchdown. Delanie Walker is the go-to option in the Titans passing game and has the potential for a multiple-touchdown game if this game turns into a shoot-out. Consider a correlation play of either Amari Cooper or Michael Crabtree in GPP tournaments.
*Friday Update* Delanie Walker is questionable after not practicing all week with a hamstring injury. Walker is a true game time decision. If Walker is scratched, limit your Tenessee stack exposure.
Green Bay Packers Stack vs. Detroit Lions
QB Aaron Rodgers $7,700 with WR Jordy Nelson $7,400
After losing a tough prime-time road game in Minnesota last week, many are questioning Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense. Who Moved My Cheese? Relax, this is a perfect opportunity to buy low on the Packers this weekend in their home opener this Sunday vs. the Lions. Vegas still believes in the Packers as they are a 7.5 favorite with a 27.5 expected team total. Rodgers has historically played better at Lambeau Field over the course of his career. He has also owned the Detroit Lions amassing a 11-3 record with 26 passing touchdowns to only 6 interceptions. When building a Packers stack, the question is whether to pair Rodgers with either Jordy Nelson or Randall Cobb as both are priced similarly at $7,400 and $7,300 respectively. Nelson has received 20 targets over the past two weeks as compared to 15 targets from Cobb. Nelson has the higher ceiling with the potential to break out with a deep touchdown reception. Expect the Packers offense to bounce back strong this Sunday. Don’t let the Packers naysayers move your cheese!
Indianapolis Colts Stack vs. San Diego Chargers
QB Andrew Luck $7,600 with WR Phillip Dorsett $4,400 and/or Dwayne Allen $3,800
Correlation Play: Melvin Gordon $5,800
Due to the Colts subpar defense, they will continue to be forced into many shoot-outs this season. During Week 1, the Lions/Colts finished with 74 total points and last week the Broncos/Colts finished with 54 total points. The injury to WR Donte Moncrief will open up an additional 6-7 targets/per week in the Indianapolis Colts passing game. TE Dwayne Allen and WR Phillip Dorsett will see the largest bump in targets moving forward. Based on the matchup and his role in the offense, Dorsett is underpriced with a DraftKings salary of only $4,400. Consider a super-stack by adding TE Dwayne Allen to your Colts stack. Melvin Gordon makes for a strong correlation play in your GPP tournaments.
