1. CAR - QB Cam Newton in danger of missing 2019?

Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) is not guaranteed to play at all in 2019 as the team considers all of its options regarding his injured shoulder. Per ESPN.com's David Newton, the organization has been in discussions with medical personnel on the best plan to strengthen the shoulder - whether that's with rest or another surgery. A surgery opens the possibility Newton could miss a season - just as Andrew Luck did in 2017 - after undergoing surgery on his throwing shoulder.

This will be one of the most closely watched stories this offseason. Stay tuned.

2. CAR - Surgery for QB Cam Newton?

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton's (shoulder) offseason recovery remains unclear as team owner David Tepper admitted he has 'no idea' if Newton will have surgery.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton is going to try and rest the shoulder to get back to full strength...or at least as close to full strength as he can. He's had shoulder surgery before and needs to be healthy in order to perform at his best. We give him a ton of credit for his toughness, but playing with this shoulder injury has not lead to the best production (or wins) for the veteran quarterback.

3. DEN - Ed Donatell back in Denver

Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Former Chicago Bears defensive backs coach Ed Donatell has been hired by the Denver Broncos Tuesday, Jan. 15, as their new defensive coordinator.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Donatell follows new Broncos head coach Vic Fangio to the Mile High City. He coached with the Broncos before, back in 2010 as the DBs coach. Now, Donatell runs the whole defense...something he's done before, most recently with Washington back in 2009. Fangio should be the defensive playcaller.

4. JAX - Alex McGough joins Jaguars

Source: Jaguars.com

Free-agent QB Alex McGough (Seahawks) was signed to a Reserve/Futures deal by the Jacksonville Jaguars Tuesday, Jan. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McGough is an interesting prospect to monitor in dynasty leagues. A seventh-round pick of the Seahawks in 2018, McGough might have an opportunity to impress with the Jaguars due to their dire quarterback situation. McGough did draw the praise of Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll in the preseason.

5. NO - WR Michael Thomas a postseason fiend

Source: ProFootballReference.com

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas is just the fourth player since 1970 to achieve multiple playoff games with at least 130 receiving yards.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas is arguably the most important piece of the Saints offense not named QB Drew Brees. They continue to march towards the Super Bowl and have a tough matchup against the Rams in the NFC Championship Game.

6. KC - TE Travis Kelce in elite company

Source: ProFootballReference.com

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce is just the fifth tight end since 1999 to achieve multiple 100-yard playoff games.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kelce is already an elite tight end, but now the Chiefs are winning in the postseason with a chance to go to the Super Bowl. He should be a big part of what they do if they make it past the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.

7. CIN - WR Tyler Boyd nearing full strength

Source: Sirius XM NFL Radio - Alex Marvez

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd (knee) is about two weeks away from being fully recovered from his sprained medial collateral ligament.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for Boyd here. This means that he should be able to participate in OTAs later this spring. Boyd played in 14 games this year, finishing with a career high in catches (76), receiving yards (1,028) and receiving touchdowns (7). He's a low-end WR2 or WR3/flex play for Fantasy GMs going forward.

8. NYJ - Gregg Williams joining Jets

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Former Cleveland Browns interim head coach Gregg Williams is finalizing a deal to become the next defensive coordinator of the New York Jets, according to a source. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams is known for building an aggressive defense, and that won't change now that he's with the Jets. They have some good young talent on the defensive side of the ball but it remains to be seen how Williams will get along with new head coach Adam Gase.

9. PHI - QB Nick Foles a Philly favorite

Source: SportsRadio 94WIP

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles is a player the team would like to have return even though Foles can buy out of the final year of his contract if the Eagles pick up his 2019 option. 'We would love to keep Nick Foles,' Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the team's year-end news conference. 'You talk about a guy we've drafted here and grown incredibly close with. Certainly, as we go into the substance of those discussions, no question ... we'd love to keep him.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's going to be an interesting offseason for the Eagles due to this Foles situation. Some out there believe they'll be able to tag and trade Foles in an effort to get something for him and not lose him with nothing in return. We'll see what happens with Foles but one thing is clear; the team wants Carson Wentz as their starting quarterback.

10. PHI - Philly GM defends WR Golden Tate trade

Source: NJ.com - Zack Rosenblatt

Philadelphia Eagles WR Golden Tate's trade-deadline acquisition from the Detroit Lions 'no question' worked out the way the Eagles hoped it would, general manager Howie Roseman said Tuesday, Jan. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tate did make some plays with the Eagles here and there but he just didn't seem to fit in as good as he could have. Now he enters free agency in 2019 and it's unlikely the Eagles bring him back. They took a chance and it didn't work out...even though Roseman spun it differently on Tuesday.

11. PHI - Philly going forward with QB Carson Wentz

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (back) is the team's 'starting quarterback going forward ,' head coach Doug Pederson said Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the team's season-ending news conference.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

After Nick Foles led them to the playoffs in 2018, many wondered what the future held for Wentz. It looks like the Eagles are going with Wentz. He hasn't played a full 16-game season since 2016 but when healthy he has the skill to be one of the best in the league at his position. We'll see if the Eagles can trade Foles this offseason.

12. ARI - Jim Bob Cooter interviewing with Cards

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter is interviewing with the Arizona Cardinals for the same spot Tuesday, Jan. 15.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cooter worked with Matthew Stafford closely and had some productive seasons with the Lions. The Cardinals are looking for help on both sides of the ball and having a coach like Cooter around would be a boost for new head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

13. DEN - Brandon Staley hired by Denver

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Chicago Bears assistant Brandon Staley was hired by the Denver Broncos Tuesday, Jan. 15, as linebackers coach.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Staley worked under new Broncos head coach Vic Fangio with the Bears and the transition should go smoothly for him. Staley spent the last two years as the linebackers coach with the Bears and now gets to work with great pass rushers Von Miller and Bradley Chubb.

14. LAC - LA Chargers sign seven to futures deals

Source: NFL Trade Rumors - Nate Bouda

Free-agent DE Patrick Afriyie, LB Tre'Von Johnson, QB Cardale Jones, WR Justice Liggins, TE Vince Mayle, WR Andre Patton and CB Arrion Springs signed futures contracts with the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, Jan. 14.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's a quarterback, so we'll keep an eye on Jones in crazy deep dynasty formats. He's got a big arm and some mobility but he's done little to impress in the pros. We'll see if that can change as he continues to develop with the Chargers.

15. BUF - Robert Foster in rare air as a rookie

Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills WR Robert Foster led the NFL with 20 yards per catch (minimum 25 receptions) and is one of only four players since 2015 to record three 100-yard receiving games in their rookie season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Undrafted out of Alabama in 2018, Foster took some time before he made an impact. It was Week 10 of the 2018 season when Foster burst onto the scene with a three-catch, 105-yard performance. He is a big play target who finished his rookie season with 27 catches for 541 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

16. KC - RB Spencer Ware day-to-day

Source: The Kansas City Star - Brooke Pryor

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (hamstring) is considered day-to-day because of his hamstring injury, according to head coach Andy Reid.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hamstring injuries can linger and Ware has certainly been bit by the injury bug in recent weeks. Even if he's healthy, Ware would only be a backup to Damien Williams in the Chiefs backfield.

17. MIN - S Klint Kubiak officially hired

Source: Vikings.com - Eric Smith

Updating a previous report, the Minnesota Vikings have hired Denver Broncos offensive assistant Klint Kubiak as their quarterbacks coach.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Klint is the son of Gary Kubiak, Super Bowl winning coach and new offensive advisor for the Vikings. We should see Klint rise up the coaching ranks in a similar fashion to how Kyle Shanahan did the same thing (son of a Super Bowl winning coach) years ago.

18. MIN - Minnesota adds Brian Pariani to staff

Source: Vikings.com - Eric Smith

The Minnesota Vikings have hired former Denver Broncos tight ends coach Brian Pariani as their new tight ends coach.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pariani is part of the "Kubiak Crew" the Vikings hired this week. He'll be in charge of TE Kyle Rudolph and getting the most out of his targets from QB Kirk Cousins.

19. IND - WR Deon Cain may push for starting job

Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Indianapolis Colts WR Deon Cain (knee) could be an option for the No. 2 receiver job next season if he can recover from his torn anterior cruciate ligament.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cain was a very intriguing prospect last year coming out of Clemson, and that's why the Colts selected him in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL draft. Measuring in at 6'2" 205 pounds, Cain has a great size/speed combination. He gets into his routes quickly and looks to be smooth in and out of his breaks. If he's healthy and plays up to his potential, Cain can be a capable no.2 receiver. Dynasty GMs need to keep an eye on him.
