Howdy Folks,

Good Thursday to you. We've got some News and Notes as we head towards Wild Card Weekend.

Let's get to it.

1. LAC - RB Melvin Gordon says he'll play

Source: The Orange County Register - Gilbert Manzano

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (ankle) said he is ready to go this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens despite sustaining an ankle injury in Week 17.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon was banged up heading into the postseason but that was from a knee injury that forced him out of action for a few weeks. He returned for the Chargers in Week 16 and had a couple of games to shake off the rust. We'd be surprised if he missed the Wild Card game against the Ravens on Sunday.

Source: NBC Sports Washington - JP Finlay

Free-agent WR Tre McBride (Jets) was signed by the Washington Redskins to a Reserve/Futures contract Wednesday, Jan. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McBride was a seventh-round pick of the Titans back in 2015 when he came out of William & Mary. He's a return specialist who has done little as a receiver during his time in the pros.

Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (ribs) was limited in practice Wednesday, Jan. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Foles is the starter for the Eagles in the Wild Card round on Sunday against the Bears. A rib injury is painful to deal with but Foles is tough and battle-tested in the postseason.

Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (back) is not practicing Wednesday, Jan. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nick Foles is going to start for the Eagles in the Wild Card round. They need Wentz to be ready as his backup if at all possible.

Indianapolis Colts TE Eric Ebron (rest) was given the day off of practice Wednesday, Jan. 2.

7. LAC - No decision on TE Hunter Henry

Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry's (knee) status for this weekend is unclear at this point as head coach Anthony Lynn has yet to decide whether to make Henry active.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Henry missed all of the regular season with this knee injury. He might be back for the Wild Card game against the Ravens on Sunday. If he is active then he will be on a snap count.

8. NFL - Kaden Smith declares for draft

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams

Stanford TE Kaden Smith announced Wednesday, Jan. 2, that he will forego his senior season and enter the 2019 NFL Draft.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In two seasons, Smith made 70 catches for 1,049 yards and seven touchdowns in 20 games. Smith is your typical Stanford tight end, and measuring in at 6'5" 252 pounds he should get quite a bit of NFL attention. Some in the scouting community have an early second-round grade on Smith.

9. DET - Detroit adds Mark Thompson

Source: DetroitLions.com

Free-agent RB Mark Thompson (Jets) was signed to a Reserve/Futures contract by the Detroit Lions Wednesday, Jan. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thompson measures in at 6'1" 232 pounds and has a hard-charging style as a runner. There's not a lot of wasted motion when he's running the rock. We'll watch this power back but only in super deep dynasty formats.

10. DEN - Denver signs more players

Source: DenverBroncos.com - Ben Swanson

Denver Broncos WR Chad Hansen, DE Caushaud Lyons, RB Khalfani Muhammad and OG Austin Schlottmann were signed to Reserve/Futures contracts Wednesday, Jan. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hansen was a fourth-round pick for the Jets in 2017 when he came out of Cal. He's a technician as a route runner and some in the scouting community compared his game to Allen Hurns. We'll monitor him in super deep dynasty formats and see if he can impress with his new team.

11. IND - No practice for WR T.Y. Hilton

Source: The Herald Bulletin - George Bremer

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (ankle) remained out of practice Wednesday, Jan. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's to be expected with Hilton. He hasn't practiced much over the last couple of weeks yet he still plays and produces. We'd be shocked if he missed Saturdsay's Wild Card game against the Texans.

12. NYG - QB Eli Manning's future is cloudy

Source: The Bergen Record - Art Stapleton

New York Giants QB Eli Manning's future with the Giants is cloudy as general manager Dave Gettleman was noncommittal on Manning being the starter in 2019. 'I'm committed to making the best decision in the interest of the Giants. We're in the evaluation process,' Gettleman said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gettleman is being brutally honest about the situation. The Giants passed on taking a quarterback last year in the first round, instead opting for star RB Saquon Barkley. This year with the 6th overall pick, they may choose to go with a rookie quarterback. Manning's time as the Giants starter is coming to a close.

13. NFL - Shareef Miller declares for draft

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Penn State DL Shareef Miller announced Wednesday, Jan. 2, that he will enter the 2019 NFL Draft.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller started every game for the Nittany Lions in 2018 and improved his statistical output every year. He can get after the pass rusher with speed and athleticism, measuring in at 6'5" 260 pounds.

14. DEN - Denver signs six players

Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

The Denver Broncos signed WR Fred Brown, SS Shamarko Thomas, QB Garrett Grayson, OT Andreas Knappe, LB Alexander Johnson and CB Linden Stephens to Reserve/Futures contracts Wednesday, Jan. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown was undrafted out of Mississippi State in 2017. The Rams decided to keep him around on a futures contract in 2018 but he did not make the final roster. The Broncos have a young group of wide receivers behind Emmanuel Sanders and we'll see if Brown can impress enough with his new team to earn a spot on the 53-man roster in the summer.

15. NYG - WR Odell Beckham staying put

Source: NFL Network - Kimberly Jones

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. will not be traded this offseason, according to general manager Dave Gettleman.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

"We didn't sign him to trade him," Gettleman said. Beckham made it through only 12 games this year and hasn't played a full 16-game season since 2016. He'll be the centerpiece of the passing attack and gives the Giants a dynamic duo of skill position players with RB Saquon Barkley. Beckham finished 2018 as the no.16 fantasy wide receiver in standard-scoring leagues. If healthy, he's clearly got WR1 ability for Fantasy GMs.

16. CLE - Cleveland signs seven

Source: NFL.com

The Cleveland Browns signed DBs Tigie Sankoh and Robert Jackson, CB Lenzy Pipkins, RB Devante Mays, OT Brad Seaton, and DTs Devaroe Lawrence and Daniel Ekuale to Reserve/Future contracts on Tuesday, Jan. 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mays is the player we'll watch here in super deep dynasty leagues. He was a seventh-round pick for the Packers when he came out of Utah State in 2017. Mays is a power back, measuring in at 5'11" 237 pounds.

17. PIT - TE Bucky Hodges inks contract

Source: NFL.com

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed TE Bucky Hodges to a Reserve/Future contract Tuesday, Jan. 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coming out of Virginia Tech in 2016, Hodges was a sixth-round pick for the Vikings but has yet to play an NFL snap. He was released by the Vikings as a rookie and the Steelers make the fifth NFL roster he's been on. He's 6'6" 256 pounds and has a basketball player skill set at the tight end position. Hodges is someone we'll monitor but only in crazy deep dynasty formats.

18. CHI - Chicago re-signs QB Tyler Bray

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

The Chicago Bears re-signed QB Tyler Bray to the practice squad Tuesday, Jan. 1. In a corresponding move, OL Willie Beavers was released.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bray has a big arm but little value for Fantasy GMs...even those in crazy deep dynasty formats. He did work with Bears head coach Matt Nagy when they were with the Chiefs and gives the Bears another arm for the offseason.

19. NFL - Trysten Hill ready to go pro

Source: 1 No Source

Central Florida DT Trysten Hill announced his intention to declare for the 2019 NFL Draft on Tuesday, Jan. 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hill can be a disruptive player in the middle of the defensive line. Measuring in at 6'2" 325 pounds, Hill is tough for one player to block. He had an inconsistent career in college and considered transferring from UCF last spring. Instead, he now enters the pros with a mid-round grade by most in the scouting community.

20. IND - WR T.Y. Hilton struggling with ankle injury

Source: 1070 The Fan - Kevin Bowen

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (ankle) has practiced only twice in the last four weeks and admitted his current ankle injury is the worst injury he's ever played through.'I know he is not full speed, he is far from it. Who knows what percent he is, but I just know he is fighting for every rep and every catch he can make,' head coach Frank Reich told Kevin Bowen of 1070 The Fan.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hilton has not been practicing much at all but he still plays and produces for the Colts. We'd be shocked if the star receiver missed Saturday's Wild Card game against the Texans.
