1. LAC - TE Antonio Gates returns to LA Chargers

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent TE Antonio Gates (Chargers) agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gates will have matchup streamer value and posted solid numbers when Hunter Henry was out last year. He'll probably be on our Week 2 waiver wire list for tight end streamers.

2. NO - RB Mike Gillislee joins New Orleans

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent RB Mike Gillislee (Patriots) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints Sunday, Sept. 2, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gillislee should get touches while Mark Ingram is suspended, and might even have some fleeting value in deep leagues. His signing makes Boston Scott a less attractive sleeper in Weeks 1-4.

3. CHI - DE Khalil Mack likely to suit up for opener

Source: ChicagoBears.com

Chicago Bears LB Khalil Mack is expected to play in the regular-season opener against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Sept. 8, according to head coach Matt Nagy. Mack was acquired in a trade with the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, Sept. 1, after declining to participate in offseason workouts or training camp with the Raiders due to a contract dispute.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Packers offensive tackles are coming back from injuries, so they will be tested right away by the Bears new franchise player.

4. PHI - QB Carson Wentz still in limbo

Source: 94WIP Radio - Eliot Shorr-Parks

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) has yet to be cleared for contact, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz is highly unlikely to start on Thursday, and Week 2 is no sure thing. Anyone who drafted Wentz needs to have a Plan B for the early season, and the Eagles offensive outlook will be dimmer with Nick Foles starting.

5. PHI - RB Jay Ajayi to get the go-ahead for opener

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles RB Jay Ajayi (lower body) is expected to practice this week and will play in the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Sept. 6.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Eagles had been resting him and managing his knee issues in the preseason. While Ajayi is clear for Week 1, this is a reminder of his season-long limitations.

6. CAR - Matt Kalil goes on IR

Source: Panthers.com - Max Henson

Carolina Panthers OT Matt Kalil (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Sunday, Sept. 2. He likely will be one of the candidates to return later in the season if his knee fully heals.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers might have two new starters at tackle against Demarcus Lawrence and the Cowboys in Week 1. This could also slow down Christian McCaffrey's momentum after a strong preseason.

7. NE - RB Sony Michel involved in positional drills

Source: Boston Herald - Kevin Duffy

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (knee) was spotted taking part in positional drills Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't know how close Michel is to playing against the Houston, but this is a good sign that he'll be available early in the season. The Patriots backfield is going to be tough to project in Week 1.

8. CHI - TE Adam Shaheen lands on IR

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears TE Adam Shaheen (ankle, foot) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is big news for Trey Burton's stock. He could be a top five tight end getting the majority of the tight end targets in Matt Nagy's offense.

9. DEN - Denver parts ways with QB Paxton Lynch

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch was waived Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

And with that, the Broncos 2016 first-rounder is gone. The Cowboys loved him and might give him a chance, although they have three rosterable quarterbacks. Lynch should have another shot somewhere, but it might be his last.

10. NYG - QB Davis Webb let go

Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants QB Davis Webb was waived Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Webb was billed as a potential replacement for Eli Manning and cited as a possible reason the Giants passed on Sam Darnold. Instead, he gets beat out by 30-year-old Alex Tanney for a spot as the third quarterback. He might find his way onto a practice squad.

11. NYJ - WR Breshad Perriman to work out for NY Jets

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Free-agent WR Breshad Perriman (Ravens) is scheduled to work out for the New York Jets on Monday, Sept. 3.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets will have an opening at receiver for two games while Ardarius Stewart serves his suspension, so there's a chance for Perriman to stick here, at least initially.

12. LAC - QB Cardale Jones sent packing

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Los Angeles Chargers QB Cardale Jones was waived Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chargers originally kept three quarterbacks, but ended up opting for Geno Smith to back up Philip Rivers. Jones had previously played with head coach Anthony Lynn in Buffalo. He might end up on a practice squad.

13. MIA - TE Mike Gesicki to play key role right away

Source: Palm Beach Post - Jason Lieser

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki is ready to assume a 'starter-like role' at the very least, according to comments made by head coach Adam Gase on Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gesicki and Philadelphia Eagles second round Dallas Goedert should both get chances to seize big roles in the passing game from day one. Goedert has looked more capable of doing that during the preseason.

14. BAL - Kaare Vedvik hospitalized

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Scott Gleeson

Baltimore Ravens PK Kaare Vedvik (head) is in stable condition after sustaining non life-threatening head wounds. Baltimore police were called to a residence at 4 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, and he was transported to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center due to 'upper body injuries.' It is unknown how the injuries occurred.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Vedvik can punt and kick and was seen as a possible add for another team after final cuts. It's always hard to hear about this kind of story and we hope he recovers quickly.

15. CLE - Cleveland inks eight to practice squad

Source: NationalFootballPost.com - Aaron Wilson

The Cleveland Browns signed DT Carl Davis, RB Dontrell Hilliard, OG Kyle Kalis, C Aaron Neary, DT Ifeadi Odenigbo, WR Da'Mari Scott, DB Tavierre Thomas and LB Tanner Vallejo on Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

John Dorsey is not a big fan of the roster he inherited, so it's not a surprise to see this many players claimed by the Browns in his first year as the general manager.

16. LAC - LAC signs seven to practice squad

Source: Chargers.com - Ricky Henne

Free-agent DE Patrick Afriyie, WR Dylan Cantrell, S A.J. Hendy, LB D'Juan Hines, WR Andre Patton, DL Steven Richardson and OT Trent Scott were signed to the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cantrell was drawing rave reviews before hurting his knee this summer and we haven't heard the last of him. He is an outstanding blocker and posted top end measureables this spring before the draft.

17. MIA - Ten players added to Miami practice squad

Source: MiamiDolphins.com

Free-agent OG Isaac Asiata, WR Leonte Carroo, CB Jalen Davis, WR Isaiah Ford, C Connor Hilland, RB Jeremy Langford, DE Cameron Malveaux, DT Jamiyus Pittman, LB Quentin Poling and DE Jonathan Woodard were signed to the Miami Dolphins practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Carroo was considered a possible Patriots claim with his Rutgers background, but ended up back in the Dolphins organization. Ford, a Matt Waldman favorite, was a summer star after getting hurt last year and he could still end up part of the active roster in the future.

18. DEN - Denver fills out practice squad

Source: DenverBroncos.com - Aric DiLalla

The Denver Broncos signed WR River Cracraft, WR Carlos Henderson, CB Brendan Langley, S Trey Marshall, TE Brian Parker, NT Kyle Peko, OL Austin Schlottmann, RB David Williams and DE DeShawn Williams to the practice squad on Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team hasn't given up on Henderson yet despite his off-field problems. The team also liked Williams and Cracraft as part of their deep rookie class.

19. WAS - Washington signs eight to practice squad

Source: NBC Sports Washington - JP Finlay

The Washington Redskins re-signed RB Kapri Bibbs, WR Simmie Cobbs Jr., TE Matt Flanagan, WR Darvin Kidsy, DB Kenny Ladler, LB Cassanova McKinzy, OT Timon Parris and DT JoJo Wicker to the practice squad on Sunday, Sept. 2. The team still has two open spots remaining.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cobbs had some great moments for Indiana, including against Cleveland Browns #4 overall pick Denzel Ward. He's a big receiver who can win battles when the ball is in the air. If Josh Doctson can't stay healthy, Cobbs has a similar style and game. Bibbs was solid at the end of the year and could still provide depth if injuries strike.

20. NE - New England makes additions to practice squad

Source: Patriots.com

Free-agent OT Cole Croston, QB Danny Etling, C James Ferentz, DL Trent Harris, WR Riley McCarron, DT Vincent Valentine, RB Ralph Webb and CB Jomal Wiltz were signed to the New England Patriots practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCarron was vying for a roster spot to temporary replace Julian Edelman, but fell short. He could still be in the Patriots plans down the road. Likewise, Webb was a top UDFA and could be part of the Patriots backfield in 2019, or sooner if injuries strike.

21. IND - Indy signs five to practice squad

Source: Colts.com - Andrew Walker

Free-agent TE Mo Alie-Cox, WR Daurice Fountain, WR Steve Ishmael, QB Phillip Walker and CB D.J. White were signed to the Indianapolis Colts practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fountain was a fifth-round pick and could still figure into the long term picture at wide receiver, but the Colts didn't deem him important enough to protect on the 53 man roster. Ishmael is a Syracuse record holder and good at winning contested balls.

22. HOU - Houston adds eight to practice squad

Source: HoustonTexans.com

Free-agent LB Davin Bellamy, CB Andre Chachere, C Kyle E. Fuller, OT Roderick Johnson, DT Darius Kilgo, TE Matt Lengel, OG Chad Slade and WR Jester Weah were signed to the Houston Texans practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Weah has good size, speed and ball skills. The Texans are thin at outside receiver, so he could be part of the 53 man roster sooner than later.

23. OAK - Oakland places six on practice squad

Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal - Michael Gehlken

Free-agent WR Saeed Blacknall. WR Marcell Ateman, LB Jason Cabinda, TE Paul Butler, S Dallin Leavitt and FB Ryan Yurachek were signed to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ateman was a Raiders UDFA but he did not make their 53 man roster. The Cowboys have one of the most underwhelming wide receiver corps in the league, so Ateman could get onto the active roster by the end of the year.

24. DAL - Dallas puts eight on practice squad

Source: ESPN.com - Calvin Watkins

Free-agent WR Dres Anderson, T Jake Campos, RB Jordan Chunn, RB Darius X. Jackson, WR Lance Lenoir, Jr., CB Donovan Olumba, LB Kyle Queiro and DE Charles Tapper were signed to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lenoir and Anderson are names to file away if only because the Cowboys don't have any entrenched starters on their subpar wide receiver depth chart.

25. LAR - Nine signed to Rams practice squad

Source: Los Angeles Times - Gary Klein

Free-agent CB Dominique Hatfield, TE Temarrick Hemingway, WR Khadarel Hodge, OG Jeremiah Kolone, TE Henry Krieger-Coble, WR Steven Mitchell, DB Steven Parker, QB Luis Perez and CB Ramon Richards were signed to the Los Angeles Rams practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hemingway is a receiving tight end who should eventually get a shot somewhere, perhaps the Rams this year if Gerald Everett's shoulder becomes a lingering issue.

26. CIN - Cincinnati adds 9 to practice squad

Source: Bengals.com

Free-agent TE Moritz Bohringer, DT Anthony Brown, RB Quinton Flowers, TE Jordan Franks, CB C.J. Goodwin, OT Kent Perkins, CB Keivarae Russell, WR Kermit Whitfield and LB Chris Worley were signed to the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bohringer was drafted by Minnesota in the sixth round in 2016 as a wide receiver almost strictly on his physical attributes after playing semi-pro ball in Germany. Getting on the practice after a position conversion to tight end is a good sign for his future.

27. TEN - Six join Titans practice squad

Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Free-agent LB Robert Spillane (Titans), RB Dalyn Dawkins (Titans), S Joshua Kalu (Titans), S Damon Webb (Titans), OT Tyler Marz (Titans) and TE Jerome Cunningham (Titans) were signed to the Tennessee Titans practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dawkins could be in line to replace Dion Lewis if Lewis goes down because the Titans #3 running back, David Fluellen, isn't in the Lewis mold. File away Dawkins name in deep dynasty leagues.

28. CAR - Amini Silatolu returns to practice

Source: The Athletic - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers OG Amini Silatolu (knee) participated in practice Sunday, Sept. 2, and said that his knee is 100 percent.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers got a mix of good and bad offensive line news today. Silatolu being healthy should help ease the pain of losing Andrew Norwell in the offseason.

29. JAX - Jacksonville fills out practice squad

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Phillip Heilman

Free-agent QB Tanner Lee, OL Kc McDermott, RB Brandon Wilds, TE David Grinnage WR Allen Lazard, DL Lyndon Johnson, LB Nick DeLuca, S C.J. Reavis, CB Dee Delaney and CB Quenton Meeks were signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lazard is a big receiver who had lots of heroic moments at Iowa State. He could eventually make his way up to the 53 and give the Jaguars an element their wide receiver group lacks.

30. CAR - Daryl Williams on the field Sunday

Source: Panthers.com - Max Henson

Carolina Panthers OT Daryl Williams (knee) participated in practice Sunday, Sept. 2. He said he hopes to be able to play Week 1 but wants to be cautious with the injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is much earlier than expected given the nature of his injury, and good news even if he can't play in Week 1.

31. BAL - Baltimore adds to practice squad

Source: BaltimoreRavens.com

Free-agent OT Randin Crecelius (Ravens), RB Gus Edwards (Ravens), DE Myles Humphrey (Ravens), OG Nico Siragusa (Ravens), RB De'Lance Turner (Ravens), WR Tim White (Ravens), RB Christopher Ezeala (Ravens) and TE Darren Waller (Ravens) were signed to the Baltimore Ravens practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

White has return ability and was pushing for a roster spot, but was beat out by UDFA Janarion Grant. Edwards and Turner could be candidates to be the #3 back if Kenneth Dixon gets hurt.

32. DEN - Su'a Cravens headed for IR

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Denver Broncos S Su'a Cravens (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Sunday, Sept. 2. WR Isaiah McKenzie (Broncos) was signed an undisclosed deal to take Cravens' roster spot after McKenzie was waived Saturday, Sept. 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cravens came out of semi-retirement to play for the Broncos, but it doesn't seem like he's going to pan out this year.

33. BUF - Eight added to practice squad

Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Free-agent OT Gerhard de Beer (Bills), RB Keith Ford (Bills), DE Mike Love (Bills), S Dean Marlowe (Bills), WR Cam Phillips (Bills), LB Corey Thompson (Bills), CB Levi Wallace (Bills) and OT De'Ondre Wesley (Bills) were signed to the Buffalo Bills practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Phillips is a name to file away as the Bills have the worst wide receiver depth chart in the league.

34. NYJ - De'Angelo Henderson finds new home with Jets

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Free-agent RB De'Angelo Henderson (Broncos) was signed to the New York Jets practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Henderson could have a future with the Jets, who don't have an anointed running back of the future. Many around Denver thought he was better than Devontae Booker.

35. PIT - Pittsburgh signs 11 to practice squad

Source: Steelers.com - Teresa Varley

Free-agent LB Keion Adams (Steelers), CB Brian Allen (Steelers), RB Jarvion Franklin (Steelers), WR Trey Griffey (Steelers), TE Bucky Hodges (Steelers), DE Lavon Hooks (Steelers), LB Farrington Huguenin (Steelers), WR Tevin Jones (Steelers), C Patrick Morris (Steelers), OG R.J. Prince (Steelers) and TE Christian Scotland-Williamson (Steelers) were signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hodges is a name to remember with all three Steelers tight ends banged up right now.

36. PHI - Philadelphia announces practice squad

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Free-agent RB Josh Adams, CB De'Vante Bausby, LB Asantay Brown, TE Billy Brown, DT Winston Craig, WR Rashard Davis, DE Joe Ostman, CB Chandon Sullivan, C Jon Toth and WR Greg Ward Jr. were signed to the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Adams is a big running back who could get a call up if injuries strike in Philadelphia or elsewhere around the league. Ward is a converted quarterback whose best football as a wide receiver is yet to come.

37. OAK - Oakland brings in two offensive tackles

Source: ProFootballTalk.com

Free-agent OTs T.J. Clemmings (Redskins) and OT Justin Murray (Bengals) were claimed off waivers by the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Raiders could use a swing tackle, so one of Clemmings and Murray might stick for the long haul with Donald Penn probably nearing the end of his career. Clemmings was once thought of as a high ceiling prospect and is probably better as a run blocker.

38. IND - Indy scoops up two off waivers

Source: ProFootballTalk.com

DB Corey Moore (Texans) and DE Al-Quadin Muhammad (Saints) were claimed off waivers by the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts defense needs help at all three levels. Both of these players could see significant playing time by the end of the season.

39. MIA - Miami lands Luke Falk

Source: ProFootballTalk.com

Free-agent QB Luke Falk (Titans) was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Dolphins backup quarterback situation is one of the worst in the league with Brock Osweiler, and Ryan Tannehill is far from entrenched as the long-term starter. Falk could be an interesting developmental quarterback to track in deep dynasty 2QB/Superflex leagues.

40. NE - New England scoops up two WRs off waivers

Source: MMQB - Albert Breer

Free-agent WRs Chad Hansen (Jets) and Amara Darboh (Seahawks) were claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots on Sunday, Sept. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Neither will play a role in Week 1, but Hansen has some downfield abilities, and Darboh is physically formidable with a solid all-around game. Both have more value as Patriots in dynasty leagues than they had on the teams that drafted them, but only marginally more since they couldn't convince those teams that they were worth a roster spot.
