1. NYG - RB Paul Perkins will start for Giants

Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz

New York Giants RB Paul Perkins will be the starting running back, head coach Ben McAdoo announced Monday, May 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An important note here, but it doesn't mean Perkins will be without competition for touches. Perkins has speed and quickness to make moves in the open field and be dangerous with the ball in his hands. However, he's not a big back and the Giants could be monitoring his touches even if he's the starter.

2. MIN - QB Teddy Bridgewater's option will be declined

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Tom Pelissero

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater's fifth-year option will not be picked up, according to a source.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not surprised by this decision. Bridgewater is expected to begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list and will be reevaluated in October. His horrific leg injury suffered last year may prevent him from ever playing up to his potential as a pro. The Vikings QB situation past 2017 is up in the air as Sam Bradford (like Bridgewater now) is in the final year of his contract.

3. WAS - Samaje Perine will challenge Rob Kelley

Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins rookie RB Samaje Perine is expected to challenge fellow RB Rob Kelley for early-down work, according to ESPN.com's John Keim. Head coach Jay Gruden lauded Perine for his toughness and physical abilities. 'We know how strong he is,' Gruden said. 'Just a total package is really what we liked.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Perine reminds us of former Falcons RB Michael Turner because of his compact build and lower body power. Both are bangers who make their living between the tackles. The addition of Perine is bad for Kelley...even if he wins the early down job. Washington could end up using a rotation of both. Stay tuned.

4. DEN - RB Jamaal Charles will visit Broncos

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent RB Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) is scheduled to visit the Denver Broncos Tuesday, May 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Charles is close to "E" when it comes to gas left in the tank on his pro career. He hasn't been healthy in two years and may have lost the speed that made him such a dangerous pro. If added by the Broncos, Charles would be a part-time player as a change-of-pace back behind starter C.J. Anderson.

5. PIT - QB Zach Mettenberger released

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Zach Mettenberger was released Monday, May 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mettenberger has a big arm but little control on where his passes end up. The Steelers added Josh Dobbs (Tennessee) in the 2017 NFL draft to work as a developmental quarterback behind Ben Roethlisberger. We can't see Mettenberger doing much with any team that would be interested in picking him up.

6. GB - RB Christine Michael shown the door

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Michael Cohen

Green Bay Packers RB Christine Michael was released Monday, May 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Michael has bounced around the league despite having quite a bit of natural talent. The Packers have revamped their backfield with three RBs chosen in the 2017 NFL draft. Fourth-round pick Jamaal Williams is the most likely to challenge converted WR Ty Montgomery for the lead RB job for Green Bay.

7. JAX - QB Blake Bortles' option picked up

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles had his fifth-year option exercised Monday, May 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This was a bit of a question mark for the Jaguars before the 2017 NFL draft. They didn't get involved with the QB run that took place in the top 10 of the draft, so it looks like Bortles will be the man -- at least for this year. Bortles had a great 2015, but he fell back to Earth in 2016 and struggled to grow as a passer. If he can get back on track, the Jaguars would likely be inclined to get him a long-term deal.

8. NO - Alvin Kamara tabbed for third-down role

Source: The New Orleans Advocate - Nick Underhill

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara will be used to create mismatches in the passing game, according to general manager Mickey Loomis. 'To fill that role with a player of his caliber, we're pretty excited about it,' Loomis said 'Obviously, we were. That's why we traded up to get him.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kamara is a fantastic receiver out of the backfield, and the Saints would be wise to use him in that role as much as possible. He's also a swift runner outside the tackles, plus Kamara is known as a touchdown hog.

9. SF - Coach high on C.J. Beathard

Source: SI.com - Peter King

San Francisco 49ers QB C.J. Beathard was the only quarterback head coach Kyle Shanahan wanted in the 2017 NFL Draft. Shanahan said Beathard reminds him of Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's quite a few things to like about Beathard. His deep passes may be some of the prettiest and most accurate of any quarterback in this draft class. Beathard is going to get some time to develop, but we're watching him closely in deep dynasty leagues.

10. ATL - Five UDFAs signed by Atlanta

Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Curtis Jackson

The Atlanta Falcons have signed undrafted free-agent WR Deante Burton (Kansas State), WR Reginald Davis III (Texas Tech), FB Tyler Renew (Citadel), WR Josh Magee (South Alabama) and QB Alek Torgersen (Penn). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Torgersen is an interesting super deep dynasty prospect. The Penn quarterback is known for his intelligence and accuracy. Torgersen is also athletic enough to run some zone/read concepts.

11. PHI - OLB Marcus Smith's optioned not exercised

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles DE Marcus Smith's fifth-year option will not be picked up by the Eagles, according to a source.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith has turned in a disappointing pro career so far with only four career sacks. The Eagles added Chris Long in free agency and they drafted Derek Barnett in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft. Smith isn't guaranteed to make the 53-man roster.

12. JAX - Jacksonville sign six UDFAs

Source: Jaguars.com

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed undrafted free-agent TE Caleb Bluiett (Texas), WR Keelan Cole (Kentucky Wesleyan), RB Tim Cook (Oregon State), WR Amba Etta-Tawo (Syracuse), RB I'Tavius Mathers (Middle Tennessee State) and WR Kenneth Walker (UCLA). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mathers is a player we'll be watching in super deep dynasty leagues. He's electric with the ball in his hands and good as a receiver out of the backfield.

13. NE - Jacob Hollister signs with Patriots

Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

Undrafted free-agent TE Jacob Hollister (Wyoming) received a $10,000 signing bonus and a $80,000 guaranteed base salary upon signing with the New England Patriots.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hollister is an interesting move tight end to keep an eye on...especially in New England. He's a good route runner and a deep threat. Hollister tracks passes well over his shoulder and does a good job of securing passes after the catch. He's not much of a blocker, but he is certainly a weapon the Patriots could develop. We're excited by his addition in super deep dynasty leagues.

14. ATL - Takkarist McKinley won't be fined

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Atlanta Falcons LB Takkarist McKinley won't be fined for improper language when he was selected in the NFL draft, according to a source.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The NFL would have a PR nightmare if they fined McKinley after his emotional speech on the stage at the 2017 NFL draft. McKinley was clutching a picture of his deceased grandmother and proclaiming how much she helped him get to this point. It was one of the most memorable moments from any draft...even if it did have a couple of "F" bombs.

15. CHI - Tarik Cohen could add extra dimension

Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Mark Potash

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen could serve as a change-of-pace back for the offense, according to beat writer Mark Potash.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tarik is called "The Freak" for a reason. He can be seen on YouTube catching passes while doing backflips, and he can be seen on the field making big plays as a runner, receiver or return man.

16. DET - WR Anquan Boldin still welcomed in Detroit

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn said Saturday, April 29, that the 'door's open' for free-agent WR Anquan Boldin (Lions) to return to the Detroit Lions.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no rush for Boldin to sign at this point. We could see the veteran skip offseason work and sign right before the start of training camp.

17. MIN - OLB Anthony Barr's option exercised

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Tom Pelissero

Minnesota Vikings LB Anthony Barr's fifth-year option was picked up Monday, May 1, according to a source.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A top-10 pick in 2014, Barr is now under the Vikings control through 2018. Barr had two fine seasons to begin his pro career, but he struggled in 2016 and was called out by head coach Mike Zimmer. We'll see if Barr can get things back on track this year.

18. GB - S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix's option picked up

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Green Bay Packers SS Ha Ha Clinton-Dix had his fifth-year option exercised Monday, May 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An easy decision for the Packers here. Clinton-Dix is one of the most durable young players in the league and has never missed a game as a pro. He's been productive and effective patrolling the field for the Packers defense. Clinton-Dix is coming off a career-high five interceptions in 2016.

19. KC - OLB Dee Ford's option picked up

Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs LB Dee Ford had his fifth-year option exercised Monday, May 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ford took some time to get going as a pro, but he finished with 10 sacks last year. He should once again line up opposite Justin Houston to provide the Chiefs with a dangerous pass rusher with the upside to get double-digit sacks.
