1. NE - TE Rob Gronkowski back at practice

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (undisclosed) is participating in practice Wednesday, Aug. 24.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners can breathe a sigh of relief here. Gronkowski's injury -- whatever it was -- was minor and he should be good to go for the start of the regular season.

2. NO - RB Mark Ingram will be the bellcow

Source: The New Orleans Times-Picayune - Larry Holder

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram is expected to shoulder most of the load in the backfield with all of his underlings struggling in one facet of the game or another. He is capable of playing three downs, is capable of doing big things catching the ball out of the backfield and he is the best of the group in pass protection, too.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Was this ever in question? Ingram is the bellcow, and he's been working on his receiving skills this offseason as he never wants to come off the field. He had a career-high 50 catches last year and could do even more as a receiver this year. Ingram has finished each of the last two seasons as the no.15 fantasy RB (standard scoring leagues), and this could be the year that he ranks closer to the top 10.

3. KC - RB Charcandrick West works in practice

Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (elbow) was back at practice Wednesday, Aug. 24. He has been dealing with an elbow injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

West could get on the field as a change-of-pace back this year. The Chiefs have a trio of fine RBs with starter Jamaal Charles and backups Spencer Ware and West. Stash West if you've got enough room on your bench.

4. DEN - QB Trevor Siemian returns to practice

Source: NFL.com

Denver Broncos QB Trevor Siemian (shoulder) returned to practice Wednesday, August 24, and took about 80% of his typical workload. He's expected to start his second straight preseason game Saturday, August 27.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Siemian missed Tuesday's practice with a sore shoulder. He's back but he was still limited. The Broncos are expecting him to start against the Rams on Saturday night. If he doesn't throw another interception, then Siemian should have the inside track to be named the starting QB for the Broncos. However, expect rookie Paxton Lynch to start within the first month of the season if (when?) Siemian struggles.

5. PHI - WR Dorial Green-Beckham to work with starters

Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Philadelphia Eagles WR Dorial Green-Beckham will receive snaps with the first-team offense during the preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts Saturday, Aug. 27, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Talent has never been a question with Green-Beckham. If properly used and motivated, Green-Beckham could develop into one of the best WRs in the game. We're not counting on that, but we will be watching to see how he transitions with his new team.

6. SEA - Coach says RB Thomas Rawls will play Week 1

Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) will be ready to play in Week 1, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Rawls will not play in the preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys Thursday, Aug. 25, but has looked good during training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rawls is out this week, and there's no need to play him in the fourth preseason game. He's likely to share time and touches with Christine Michael this year. The percentage of the split will determine whether or not Rawls is worth his current ADP of RB15 (4.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

7. MIN - QB Teddy Bridgewater expects to play

Source: The Associated Press

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (shoulder) said he expects to play in the preseason game against the San Diego Chargers Sunday, Aug. 28. Bridgewater did not say much about his shoulder injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll be likely to see Bridgewater limited by this shoulder injury -- no matter how minor. The team wants him to be near full strength for the start of the regular season.

8. ARI - WR John Brown not practicing

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (concussion) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Aug. 24, because he is dealing with a headache.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation as the regular season draws near. Brown's status for Week 1 may be in doubt as he continues to be bothered with concussion symptoms and headaches.

9. NYJ - QB Geno Smith will be No. 2 QB Saturday

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Geno Smith will be the No. 2 quarterback in the preseason game against the New York Giants Saturday, Aug 27, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said he will try to get QB Bryce Petty some playing time as the third quarterback during the game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if Smith can do anything with his opportunity. In the last preseason game, Smith went 6-of-13 for 47 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

10. NYJ - RB Matt Forte may play Saturday

Source: The Associated Press - Dennis Waszak Jr.

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) hopefully will be able to play in the preseason game against the New York Giants Saturday, Aug. 27, as long as he does not suffer any setbacks, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Due to this hamstring injury, we may see Forte in a limited role. When Week 1 rolls around, we'll be watching to see how the rotation goes between Forte and Bilal Powell. The Jets offense has the makings of a bit of a RBBC, but the exact split is not yet known.

11. WAS - RB Chris Thompson expected to sit out

Source: The Washington Post - Master Tesfatsion

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (undisclosed) is not expected to play in the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills Friday, Aug. 26, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thompson is a smaller back who has seen his career set back by injuries. Washington could use some help at the position with Matt Jones banged up too. Rob Kelley and Keith Marshall are going to get first-team looks with these injuries opening up opportunity in the Washington backfield.

12. ARI - WR Larry Fitzgerald not rushing back

Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) said he could be taking part in practice but does not want to suffer a setback this close to the start of the season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The veteran knows his body better than anybody else. There's no need to rush him back to the field as Fitzgerald plans for Week 1 of the regular season. Fantasy owners should consider Fitzgerald a WR3 with upside. He's going off the board at WR28 (5.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

13. SF - QB Colin Kaepernick set to debut Friday

Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (arm) is 'on track' to play against the Green Bay Packers Friday, Aug. 26, according to head coach Chip Kelly.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Well alright, it's time to see if Kaepernick can put himself back in the QB competition with Blaine Gabbert. If healthy, it seems like Kaepernick would be a good fit for the 49ers offense under Kelly. However, three offseason surgeries have held him back to this point. We'll see what Kaepernick can do in his 2016 preseason debut.

14. TEN - QB Marcus Mariota shines in no-huddle offense

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota said the no-huddle offense is comfortable for him because of his experience operating it last season and during college. Mariota complete all six of his passing attempts, including a 21-yard touchdown pass to WR Harry Douglas during an 81-yard drive utilizing the no-huddle offense against the Carolina Panthers Saturday, Aug. 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This shouldn't be a surprise as Mariota ran a fast-paced offense in college at Oregon. He thrives when in that situation, but the second-year pro needs to show better timing when staying on rhythm within the standard offense. We love Mariota's upside, but for fantasy owners he's just a QB2 due to the Titans run-heavy philosophy.

15. CLE - WR Corey Coleman past hamstring injury

Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

Cleveland Browns WR Corey Coleman (hamstring) said he is over his hamstring injury and will be ready to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, Aug. 26.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the rookie here. Coleman's game is built on speed, speed and more speed. The hamstring injury has slowed him down, but it sounds like he's on track for this game and Week 1 of the regular season. Coleman should be the lead WR for the Browns while Josh Gordon is suspended the first four games of the year.

16. PHI - QB Carson Wentz misses another practice

Source: Delaware News Journal - Martin Frank

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (ribs) did not practice Wednesday, Aug. 24.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rib injuries are painful to deal with and they're tricky to come back from without time. The Eagles are in no rush with Wentz, so he'll have plenty of time to fully heal. Wentz should sit the bench this year while Sam Bradford starts for the Eagles.

17. PHI - WR Jordan Matthews not practicing

Source: Delaware News Journal - Martin Frank

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Aug. 24.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's got a bone bruise on his knee, but all signs indicate that Matthews will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Fantasy owners should consider him a WR3 in 2016. He's going off the board at WR29 (5.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

18. CLE - WR Josh Gordon set to play Friday

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (quadriceps) will play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, Aug. 26, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're excited to see Gordon on the football field this week. He's suspended the first four games of the year, but when he returns Gordon could put up WR1 numbers. He's currently WR31 (6.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

19. DET - RB Dwayne Washington impressing OC

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Dwayne Washington received praise from offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter Wednesday, Aug. 24. 'When the guy gets the ball he does impressive things,' Cooter said of Washington.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington is a rookie RB we're watching closely in dynasty leagues. The Lions don't have a power element to their game, and more than one RB will make up their rushing attack in 2016. Washington is a former WR who has the size (6'2" 225 pounds) to deal out some punishment with the ball in his hands. He's a bit buried on the depth chart now, but the seventh-round pick out of Washington is an intriguing prospect to monitor.

20. PHI - RB Wendell Smallwood to be busy

Source: Delaware News Journal - Martin Frank

Philadelphia Eagles RB Wendell Smallwood is expected to see a lot of action in the third preseason game to make up for the time he missed with a quadriceps injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In college at West Virginia, Smallwood was quite productive on the ground. In fact, last year he was the Big 12's leading rusher with over 1,500 yards. He's a rhythm runner who lacks elite speed or burst. Smallwood does have good vision, but he's not particularly creative or elusive in the open field. A sleeper name in some circles, the rookie is worth monitoring behind the oft-injured Eagles starter Ryan Mathews.

21. KC - S Eric Berry's return imminent?

Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs SS Eric Berry still has not signed his franchise tender, but the team believes he could return soon and remain hopeful he'll be in uniform for Week 1. Head coach Andy Reid wants to get Berry in soon to see 'what kind of shape' the veteran is in.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

What in the world were the Chiefs thinking? They should have signed Berry to a new long-term deal before the July 15th deadline for franchise-tagged players. Instead, they're left with this mess. When he returns, Berry will be on a one-year $10.8 million contract.

22. CHI - TE Zach Miller nearing return

Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (concussion) was once again in a red jersey, which signifies no contact, during practice on Tuesday, Aug. 23, but is thought to be close to returning from the NFL's concussion protocol.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If healthy -- something that has been a problem for Miller during his pro career -- we think he could catch 50 passes this year for the Bears. That makes him a TE2 with some upside. Keep an eye on his return before you draft him late.

23. NO - TE Coby Fleener still work in progress

Source: The New Orleans Times-Picayune - Josh Katzenstein

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener is still getting situation in his team's offense, and he continues to make adjustments. 'I'd say it's an ongoing progression,' head coach Sean Payton said Monday, Aug. 22. 'I think, man, there's some plays that are real good, and then there's some plays where we've got to be a little bit more detailed and that's something that I know he's got to work on.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not what you want to hear about a player going off in the top 5 of his position. Right now, Fleener is getting drafted at TE5 (6.05) in 12-team PPR leagues. We'll see how he does this week in the dress rehearsal for the regular season. On paper, Fleener could be quite the valuable fantasy asset with the Saints.

24. NO - RB Tim Hightower hones in on No. 2 job

Source: The New Orleans Times-Picayune - Larry Holder

New Orleans Saints RB Tim Hightower is expected to serve as the team's primary backup to RB Mark Ingram, as none of the other reserve tailbacks have flashed or helped themselves in training camp and the preseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep this in mind if you play in deeper leagues and want to handcuff a player to Ingram. After Ingram was hurt last year, Hightower stepped in and did well. He played adequately over the final four games, with 84 carries for 327 yards (3.9 ypc) and 4 touchdowns. He also had 12 receptions for 129 yards.
