We believe our end result is the most complex math algorithms created to best simulate any type of league. We don't have the computer teams just draft by Average Draft Position like our competitors do. It's this kind of attention to detail that people have come to expect from the Footballguys brand.

GB - RB DuJuan Harris listed as starter

Source: KFFL.com

Green Bay Packers RB DuJuan Harris is listed as the starting running back on the team's first depth chart.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's an interesting move by the Packers here. Harris hasn't participated in training camp at all as he comes back from a knee injury. He's currently on the PUP list and may still be weeks away from getting back on the field.

GB - Bryan Bulaga has torn ACL

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Updating previous reports, Green Bay Packers OT Bryan Bulaga (knee) has a torn anterior cruciate ligament and is out for the season, according to a league source.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Terrible news for the Packers. They have no proven backups on the roster. 2011 first-round pick Derek Sherrod has been sidelined for over a year with a leg injury. Fourth-round pick David Bahktiari has looked good in camp so far, and he would likely be thrown into the fire. The Packers offense got more conservative when they had trouble protecting Aaron Rodgers last year, so this could be a reason to pause before taking Rodgers as the #1 quarterback off of the board.

JAX - Two QBs listed as co-starters on depth chart

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

The Jacksonville Jaguars listed both QBs Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne as No. 1 quarterbacks in their first unofficial depth chart released Monday, Aug. 5.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jaguars are keeping up with the trend of "co-starting" QBs. Gabbert has reportedly looked bad during training camp while Henne looks decent. We wouldn't be surprised to see the Jaguars turn to Henne as their starter in week one unless Gabbert looks great in the preseason.

NE - TE Jake Ballard having problems with recovery

Source: The Providence Journal - Paul Kenyon

New England Patriots TE Jake Ballard (knee) has slowed down over the last few days and was not moving around as before because he is still recovering from knee surgery. His absence has allowed TE Zach Sudfeld to perform well during practice.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Our very own Cecil Lammey watched Sudfeld during the week of practice at the Shrine Game earlier this year and came away impressed. Some in the scouting community compared Sudfeld to a poor man's version of Dennis Pitta (Ravens) because of his strong hands. Sudfeld had durability concerns in college but if healthy could win the TE2 job behind Rob Gronkowski.

NYG - WR Hakeem Nicks expects to practice

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Ohm Youngmisuk

New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (groin) is expected to practice Tuesday, Aug. 6, after missing the last four practices because of a groin injury. He said it is important for him to play in all 16 games this season because he will be a free agent next offseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

His durability is incredibly important and the only factor that would keep him from performing like a top 15 fantasy receiver in 2013. Nicks is set to break the bank in free agency next year if he can only stay healthy this season.

PHI - QB Michael Vick, QB Nick Foles listed as starter

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles QBs Michael Vick and Nick Foles are listed as co-starters at quarterback on the team's first depth chart.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The starting job in Philadelphia is still wide open at this point. Performance in the preseason will go a long way to help securing the job.

BAL - TE Ed Dickson sitting out

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson

Baltimore Ravens TE Ed Dickson (hamstring) is not participating in practice Monday, Aug. 5.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Ravens don't need anymore injuries at the TE position. They've already lost Dennis Pitta (hip) for the season and will be cautious with Dickson here. Dickson is set to be the team's TE1 and gives QB Joe Flacco a nice downfield target who can attack the deep middle seam.

ATL - WR Julio Jones limited in practice

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (undisclosed) was limited in practice Monday, Aug. 5.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Falcons coach Mike Smith said Jones being limited was mostly precautionary and that the team will watch his workload closely.

NO - WR Marques Colston practices

Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune - Larry Holder

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston (foot) was removed from the physically unable to perform list and returned to practice for the first time since training camp began Monday, Aug. 5.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Saints here. Colston is a favorite target of Drew Brees and should perform like a top 15 fantasy WR if healthy. His current ADP is WR17 and he's coming off the board at 4.11 in 12 team PPR leagues.

SD - TE Antonio Gates appears faster

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Kevin Acee

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates appeared quicker during offseason workouts after he changed his diet and reshaped his body this offseason. Gates said he reshaped his body because of his desire to prove people wrong this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A faster Gates is nothing but a good thing for the Chargers. This team should be able to jump start their offense under new head coach Mike McCoy. Gates is a favorite target of QB Philip Rivers and is going off the board as TE7 in 12 team PPR leagues.

CLE - RB Trent Richardson to practice

Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson (shin) will participate in practice Monday, Aug. 5.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Richardson was kicked in the shin and held out of practice on Saturday as a precautionary move. We like Richardson as a top 10 pick (ADP is 1.07) in every fantasy league. He has the potential to finish as the number one RB in fantasy football if healthy.

DET - WR Ryan Broyles looking good at camp

Source: The Detroit News - Chris McCosky

Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) has shown precise route running and the ability to find the open spaces in a defense during training camp. Head coach Jim Schwartz the team likes Broyles' ability to get open against different defenses. 'He has that intangible of being able to get open,' Schwartz said. 'Hes got good body control. Hes got really good hands. Hes very strong for his size. He might be small, but hes very strong. He just knows how to set up defenders. Plus, he has a really good feel for zones and how to stay open in zones. You can get open in zones, but you have to stay open and a lot of that depends on you knowing how the defense is going to react and where the spots in there are.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantastic news for the Lions here. Broyles has great hands, concentration, and dangerous run after the catch ability. The team is looking for another weapon in the passing game besides Calvin Johnson. Broyles could be just that but durability problems have plagued him over the last two years (knee). If healthy he could easily outperform his ADP of WR51 (12.11 in 12 team PPR leagues).

PHI - RB LeSean McCoy dealing with injury

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (knee) is dealing with a knee injury and is considered day-to-day at this point.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team will be cautious with their feature back as he deals with this injury. In the meantime we'll see more from guys like Bryce Brown, Felix Jones, and Chris Polk. According to reports out of camp Brown is still bouncing too many runs outside, Jones is not standing out, and Polk is making the best impression. It's important to monitor all Eagles RBs because of the run heavy design of the offense.

DAL - QB Tony Romo expected to debut

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Jean-Jacques Taylor

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) is expected to make his preseason debut Friday, Aug. 9.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Romo didn't play in the Hall of Fame game as a precautionary measure. He had minor surgery to remove a cyst from his back earlier in the offseason.

NYJ - WR Santonio Holmes expecting to miss four games

Source: New York Post - Brian Costello

New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (foot) has told friends he expects to miss at least the first four games of the season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Holmes is returning from a Grade 4 (most severe) Lis Franc injury. He could begin the season on the PUP list which would force him to miss the first six weeks of the year. If that happens it would lead to more targets for guys like Jeremy Kerley, Stephen Hill, and Braylon Edwards.

TB - More on TE Luke Stocker

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Stephen Holder

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Luke Stocker (calf) is making progress with a calf injury, according to head coach Greg Schiano. Progress is a good way to put it, Schiano said. Hes not ready to go, but he was taken off PUP because he was going to do some things with pads on, which is the rule. Hes moving in the right direction.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stocker is set to be the team's starter but he's not an exciting fantasy option. He drops too many passes and this durability problem doesn't help his chances of impressing on the practice field.

SD - WR Keenan Allen adapting to the NFL

Source: Chargers.com - Ricky Henne

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen is adapting to life in the NFL. I feel like Im doing pretty well, but Im working to get better, he said after he was the last person to leave the field after practice. I still have a lot I can do better on, a lot of fundamentals and technique things. There are little details I need to pick up on. I mean, it may look good from the sidelines, but in the film room, the truth comes out.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love the upside of Allen if he's healthy. He's a linear athlete who can make plays downfield and adjust to poorly thrown passes with ease. Allen (knee) said his leg feels fine after suffering a knee injury in 2012. My leg feels fine, Allen said. Im not having any problems with it. It seems to be doing what Im asking of it, and thats all I can really ask for. In re-draft leagues he's a waiver wire guy, but in dynasty league he has future WR2 upside.

SF - RB LaMichael James to return punts

Source: San Jose Mercury News - Cam Inman

San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James will get the first opportunity to return punts in the teams preseason game Thursday, August 8. James has improved as a punt returner over the past year. 'We look at him as a trusted agent back there to field punts and kickoffs,' coach Jim Harbaugh said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. James is electric in the open field and can make defenders miss with ease. His return ability is an added bonus if you play in a league that rewards points for return yards.

GB - Marshall Newhouse could play either OT position

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Bob McGinn

The Green Bay Packers could use OT Marshall Newhouse at either left tackle or right tackle this season with OT David Bakhtiari starting at the other tackle position.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newhouse started all 16 games last year for the Packers and struggled mightily. Bakhtiari is an impressive rookie (Colorado) who started for two years at Left Tackle after Nate Solder (Patriots) went pro. He is an alert player who pass blocks with a finishing attitude. Bakhtiari could show improvement as a run blocker where he struggles to redirect opponents.

NYJ - Starting QB for preseason game not decided

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the team has not decided if QB Mark Sanchez or QB Geno Smith will start the first preseason game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As we get closer to the regular season we'll gain more clarity on this QB competition. Most reports out of Jets camp seem to indicate Smith is looking better than Sanchez.

NYJ - Kellen Winslow sits again

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets TE Kellen Winslow did not participate during practice Monday, Aug. 5, for the third consecutive day. Head coach Rex Ryan said Winslow is not injured, and the team is following the schedule scripted by the trainers.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Winslow is a seasoned veteran and doesn't need every rep in training camp. However, it would be nice to mix him in more than the current rate.

NYJ - Coach happy with QB Mark Sanchez's work

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he thought QB Mark Sanchez was sharp during practice Monday, Aug. 5. Sanchez went 6-for-9 during team drills while QB Geno Smith went 4-for-6 in those drills. Smith did throw two interceptions during seven-on-seven drills.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This competition is going back and forth each day. One practice Smith will look better, and in the next practice Sanchez will look better. This is a competition that could last through most of the preseason.

NYJ - RB Bilal Powell listed as starter

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell is listed as the starting running back on the team's first depth chart.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Chris Ivory is likely to be the starter by the time the regular season gets here. Powell has had his opportunity to prove himself at the pro level and he has struggled to impress. Ivory might have been listed first had he not gotten banged up (hamstring) in training camp.

GB - QB Vince Young signed

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

The Green Bay Packers have signed free-agent QB Vince Young (Bills) to a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team might not be happy with the play of either Graham Harrell or B.J. Coleman. Young gives the team an athletic backup QB behind Aaron Rodgers. He will at least help the team prepare for read/option QBs during practice. We're expecting Young to win the QB2 job for the Packers by the start of the regular season.

BUF - QB Kevin Kolb to miss scrimmage

Source: WGR Sports Radio 550 - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills QB Kevin Kolb will not participate in the team's scrimmage Monday, Aug. 5, because of a death in his family.

We at Footballguys.com are sending thoughts, prayers, and positive vibes to Kolb and his family during this tough time.

NFL - WR Terrell Owens' agent has talked with teams

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Jordan Woy, agent for free-agent WR Terrell Owens (Seahawks), said he has talked with several teams about the possibility of Owens signing with a team, but is not sure of Owens will get an opportunity to sign. Woy said Owens is in good shape and believes he can contribute to a team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We've heard this story before and nothing came of it. Owens isn't the same player he used to be and we'll only get intrigued when a team actually signs him (or at least works him out).

NO - WR Steve Breaston agrees to terms

Source: FOXSports.com - Mike Garafolo

The New Orleans Saints have agreed to terms with free-agent WR Steve Breaston (Chiefs) on a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Saints supposedly have really liked their young trio of Nick Toon, Kenny Stills, and Joseph Morgan, so Breaston may be no more than a camp body to help while Morgan and Marques Colston are sidelined. He isn't over the hill, but Breaston wasn't able to play himself into a big role in a weak Chiefs wide receiver corps last year.

NO - RB Pierre Thomas listed as starters

Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas is listed as the starting running back on the team's first depth chart.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Don't overreact to this news. Thomas has never excelled for long under a featured back load, and the Saints have shown no inclination to give him one when one of his backfieldmates misses time over the last two years. Thomas is a flex play in PPR leagues who belongs in the 9th-12th round range of drafts.

ARI - Two RBs making progress

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said RBs Rashard Mendenhall (knee) and Ryan Williams (knee) will continue to sit out practice but are making progress.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams seemed to be the target of a message from Arians to get back on the field, as Arians said the absence was "hurting him extremely" to not be "competing for a job" on the field. The team could also carry five running backs into the season, but this is a blow to Williams' dynasty value.

JAX - RB Justin Forsett out of walking boot

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Justin Forsett (toe) is no longer wearing a walking boot and was able to jog Monday, Aug. 5. He said he hopes to be able to play in the first preseason game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maurice Jones-Drew has been looking great so far in camp, so Forsett isn't as good of a sleeper as we thought he was a month ago. It still is good to see that he's close to coming back, because the Jaguars depth chart at running back after Forsett is very thin.

TB - TE Luke Stocker activated

Source: ESPN.com - Pat Yasinskas

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Luke Stocker (calf) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stocker is expected to be the team's starter when the regular season opens. His primary competition for the job will be veteran Tom Crabtree. Stocker is a big target but has been unimpressive so far during his pro career. He needs to improve his concentration and cut down on the drops if he wants to impress enough to be the starter.

SF - Three receivers back on field

Source: The Associated Press

The San Francisco 49ers had three injured wide receivers back on the practice field Sunday, Aug. 4. WR's A.J. Jenkins (hamstring), Kassim Osgood (leg) and Kyle Williams (hamstring) all returned to the field, and all three are candidates to start opposite WR Anquan Boldin.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Both Jenkins and Williams are competing to be the starter this season opposite Anquan Boldin. The initial depth chart was released as the team prepares for their first preseason game and Williams as listed as the current starter. Jenkins was the team's first-round pick in 2012 but failed to record a catch as a rookie. He'll have to start flashing his potential in year two to avoid being labeled as a bust.

BUF - QB Kevin Kolb could be back on Monday

Source: The Associated Press

Buffalo Bills QB Kevin Kolb (knee) could return as early as Monday, Aug. 5, after missing Sunday's session. Kolb hurt his left knee a day earlier after slipping on a wet rubber mat.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kolb is competing with 2013 first-round pick E.J. Manuel to be the team's starter. He can't afford to miss any time in what some feel is a close competition. Manuel is seen as the QB of the future and could start eventually no matter who wins the job initially.

TB - DE Adrian Clayborn injury update

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Stephen Holder

Tampa Bay Buccaneers DE Adrian Clayborn (groin) returned to practice briefly Monday, Aug. 5, but did not feel right and left practice early.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bucs need guys like Clayborn and DE Da'Quan Bowers to stay healthy and boost the pass rush after they lost DE Michael Bennett (Seahawks) in free agency. The team will give Clayborn a couple more days before trying another return to the practice field.

NYJ - CB Dee Milliner listed as starter

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets CB Dee Milliner is listed as a starting cornerback on the team's preseason depth chart despite practicing for less than a week. CB Kyle Wilson is listed as the nickel cornerback.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson has failed to play up to his potential as a pro after being the team's first-round pick in 2010. Milliner was considered the top CB prospect in the 2013 NFL draft. He has a nice size/speed combination and can play effectively in coverage or run defense.

BAL - TE Ed Dickson expected to be ready for Week 1

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson

Baltimore Ravens TE Ed Dickson (hamstring) could miss a few preseason games but should be ready for the start of the regular season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Ravens here. They've already lost Dennis Pitta (hip) for the year and they don't need to lose Dickson too. Hamstring injuries are known to linger if not properly treated and given time to heal. In the meantime we'll see more from Visanthe Shiancoe and Billy Bajema.

KC - S Eric Berry to line up at different positions

Source: The Kansas City Star - Randy Covitz

Kansas City Chiefs SS Eric Berry will line up at strong safety in the base defense and at linebacker in the dime defense. Berry could also be asked to be a cover safety or a blitzing safety in the nickel defense. 'I really had to get into my playbook because there are certain things I didnt know how to do in the past,' Berry said. 'I have to know what to do as a linebacker sometimes Im rushing off the edge. Sometimes I have to stay on top of my game before like with the safety position.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Berry is one of the more versatile players in the league today. It's wise to move him all over where he can cover move TEs and help in run support.
