SITE NEWS

A. Win. Your. League. With a Footballguys Insider Subscription
The Daily Email Updates are hopefully a helpful part of your Fantasy Football Experience. But they're just the tip of the iceberg of what we do. Click on the title link and see 13 reasons why you need to be a Footballguys Insider.

B. 3 Year Footballguys Insider Subscription Returns
We initially took this away as an option, because we hated the idea that someone purchased the 3 year expecting something and that feature was changed/dropped, etc.

We have a lot of people asking us to bring it back though. And the truth is these are the guys that have been with us for the longest and our biggest cheerleaders.

So we have brought it back. It's $64.95 for the three-years. This will add on to whatever balance you have.

For people that wanted this option, but it wasn't available:

- You can request a refund by sending an email to: gray@footballguys.com - Put REFUND in the Subject
- Just add on another three years to what you have

We are making no guarantee that we will be offering this next year or beyond. But we will feel we pulled the rug out without notice this year and decided to change course to our most loyal readership.

C. New Versions Of Our Mobile Apps are LIVE - Android Too!
We're not content to sit on our heels with our Mobile Apps. We've rolled out brand new updated versions of both the Draft GM and the Footballguys Magazine Draft Kit. AND, we've released the Footballguys Magazine Draft Kit for Android Tablets. (like the iOS version, the Magazine Draft Kit is only for tablets - it's too big for phones). Check them out.

And please help us by rating the apps. Mobile apps live and die with ratings and reviews. If you have a second, would you please rate and maybe even review the app? We'd love to hear from you.

D. Footballguys Dominates Independent Rankings Accuracy
I'm often asked how our projections fare against other sites. As you can see from the link in the headline, Footballguys once again Dominated the competition on the FantasyPros.com site. Out of 135 Experts tracked over the last three years, our David Dodds and Bob Henry finished in the top 5. And if you look to see the entire list, you'll find a ton of Footballguys Staffers faring extremely well. If you're looking for proven accuracy, Footballguys is your site.

Our James Brimacombe continues his Daily Game Interview series this time interviewing David "Headchopper" from FanDuel. David shares insights on bankroll management, tips for getting started, Tournament Style games and much more.

H. Magazine Rankings
We know that magazines are still what some guys in your leagues will use to prepare for your draft. In this feature, our Clayton Gray takes a look at the average rankings from popular fantasy football magazines. You may be surprised to see how different guys like Tom Brady and Michael Vick are rated in the magazines compared to our current rankings. Use that type of knowledge to your advantage as you prepare for your draft.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski likely to begin season on PUP?

Source: The Boston Globe - Ben Volin

Boston Globe beat writer Ben Volin believes New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm, back) could be ready for Week 1, but the most likely scenario is he is kept on the Physically Unable to Perform list and misses the first six games.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is Volin's opinion and not based any information from the team. If Gronkowski misses six (or even eight) games, he is still probably worth a fifth or sixth round pick. Tight end is deep enough that it is easier to get a replacement level producer late. The core of Gronkowski's value is the trump card he gives your team down the stretch and in the playoffs, and that is not in question... yet. In the meantime, undrafted rookie Zach Sudfeld is looking like an intriguing sleeper tight end in early weeks that Gronkowski would miss. He has been performing well in camp and Tom Brady has been hitting him on some of the same high throws up the seam. This could be a Dallas Clark/Jacob Tamme scenario, where the role makes a fantasy stud out of a replacement-level youngster.

SD - WR Vincent Brown still out

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Brown (hamstring) has missed six straight practices and is unlikely to play in the first preseason game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown is getting closer to being on the "perennial tease" list with news like this. He could lead the Chargers in receptions, but hamstring issues are about the last nagging injury you want your fantasy receivers dealing with in camp.

GB - RB coach does not think RB Eddie Lacy needs to drop weight

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Bob McGinn

Green Bay Packers running backs coach Alex Van Pelt said he believes RB Eddie Lacy can stay at his current weight and still be an effective runner. 'You see what he can do with his speed and cuts. His change of direction has been really good. That's where he shines. He can stick his foot in the ground,' Van Pelt said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

More than weight, Lacy needs to stay healthy and in good physical condition. So far, so good in his first training camp.

GB - RB Eddie Lacy impressive during scrimmage

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Bob McGinn

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy rushed for 65 yards on eight carries in the team's scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 3. 'He went in there and proved he could run the ball effective,' RB Alex Green said. 'Even when he was a little bit winded he still ran hard and finished runs. Picked up the blitzes when he had to. I thought he did great.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lacy is gaining momentum after a deceptive picture that made him look overweight was a social media sensation earlier this week. At this rate, he'll be worth consideration as an RB2 pick in the 4th-5th round if you don't start with two running backs in your first 2-3 picks.

HOU - RB Arian Foster unable to practice

Source: NFL.com

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (back, calf) was not able to participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 4, because of a sore back. Head coach Gary Kubiak said the team expected Foster to practice.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Those that are looking for a reason to drop Foster out of the top 3-5 backs because of durability worries are getting plenty of fodder in training camp. Our Dr. Jene Bramel still thinks that there's no reason to worry unless Foster doesn't return to practice in the next week or two and fails to be healthy enough to play in the third preseason game.

SEA - RB Robert Turbin cleared by doctors

Source: The Seattle Times - Jayson Jenks

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Sunday, Aug. 4, that RB Robert Turbin (foot) has been cleared by team doctors to return to the practice field. RB Christine Michael had been working with the second-team offense in Turbin's absence.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Seahawks have an embarrassment of riches at the RB position. Turbin looked good as a backup player last year behind Marshawn Lynch. He'll compete with Michael for the starting job. If Lynch gets banged up we'll see a RBBC featuring both Turbin and Michael.

DEN - RB Montee Ball listed as primary backup

Source: USAToday.com - Lindsay H. Jones

The Denver Broncos list RB Montee Ball as the primary backup behind starting RB Ronnie Hillman on the first unofficial depth chart of training camp. RB Knowshon Moreno is listed as the third running back on the chart.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ball has looked good as a receiver out of the backfield in training camp. The team is going to use a RBBC featuring both Hillman and Ball. Hillman is their big play back who can score on any touch, while Ball is the banger who can be effectively used in the red zone.

NE - TE Jake Ballard sits

Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots TE Jake Ballard (knee) sat out of practice Saturday, Aug. 3, due to soreness in his surgically repaired knee.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ballard was everyone's first thought as a beneficiary when Aaron Hernandez was released and Rob Gronkowski underwent surgery after surgery this offseason, but his current not-so-great physical state shows that not every ACL recovery is a given. He's off of our fantasy radar and has been replaced by UDFA rookie Zach Sudfeld as the deep sleeper at tight end in New England.

DEN - RB Ronnie Hillman listed starter

Source: DenverBroncos.com

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman is listed as the starting running back on the team's first released depth chart.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hillman has been getting the majority of first-team snaps for the whole offseason, so this is not a surprise. Montee Ball is the red zone back, and all indications are that these two will split the running back productivity enough to make this a true RBBC for fantasy, with no clear trustworthy every week start.

CIN - WR A.J. Green not traveling

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Joe Reedy

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said WR A.J. Green (knee) will not be traveling with the team to Atlanta for join practices and a preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No worries here as the Bengals are being careful with their franchise player. He is still a solid top three pick at wide receiver, with a strong argument to be the #2 receiver off of the board after Calvin Johnson.

ATL - WR Julio Jones adds some weight

Source: NationalFootballPost.com - Len Pasquarelli

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones added eight to nine pounds this offseason but said he has not lost any of his speed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Another summer, another season of Jones hype. It is clear that he has the ability to be as good as any wide receiver in the game. With better health and consistency, Jones could finish as a top 3 wide receiver this season. You'll have to take him in the second round to be assured of getting him.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell expects to practice

Source: NFL.com

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) said he expects to participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 4.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is good news, as Bell had been generating a lot of buzz in Steelers training camp. He seemed to be separating from the other backs in Latrobe and living up to his fourth-round ADP. He is worth considering around the same time that Lamar Miller and David Wilson are going off of the board.

IND - RB Ahmad Bradshaw will not be activated soon

Source: Terre Haute Tribune-Star - Tom James

Indianapolis Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) will not be activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list in the near future. Bradshaw participated in the team's walkthrough Sunday, Aug. 4, but was only getting mental reps.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bradshaw has reassured everyone that he'll be ready for the regular season, but at the very least this is the profile of a back who will have to be managed closely to make it through the season without missing games. He's not worth drafting any higher than a mid-to-low RB3 in the 7th-9th rounds.

CLE - TE Jordan Cameron getting a lot of work

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns TE Jordan Cameron is getting thrown to early and often during training camp and has made good progress. Cameron is losing a few too many battles against linebackers and defensive backs for passes.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cameron is a former basketball star from USC who has been developing his game as a football player over the last two seasons. It's disappointing to hear that he's not doing a better job of 'boxing out' defenders as most basketball converts can do that naturally. We'll see if Cameron can develop better 'my ball' mentaility as the preseason goes on. We've been getting good news on Cameron's opportunity, now we need to hear better news about his performance.

SEA - WR Early Doucet just trying to fit in

Source: The Seattle Times - Jayson Jenks

Seattle Seahawks WR Early Doucet said Sunday, Aug. 4, that he is just trying to fit wherever the team can use him. Head coach Pete Carroll said the thing he likes most about Doucet is the way former teammates talk about his toughness.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Doucet is a slot WR who will compete for a roster spot behind Doug Baldwin. If he wants to fit in he should work on his concentration. Doucet is known to drop too many passes and lacks explosiveness with the ball in his hands.

OAK - RB Latavius Murray remains sidelined

Source: CSNBayArea.com - Scott Bair

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray (undisclosed) has missed the past week of practices in training camp due to an undisclosed injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Murray was expected to compete with Rashad Jennings in camp to be the primary backup behind Darren McFadden in 2013. He missed June minicamp with a foot injury and the chances of him winning the backup job is slim as he continues to miss practice time.

OAK - WR Jacoby Ford shows off speed

Source: CSNBayArea.com - Scott Bair

Oakland Raiders WR Jacoby Ford (knee) showed off elusive moves and pure speed in practice Sunday, Aug. 4, looking to be over a knee injury which sidelined him last week.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ford was known as a speed receiver when he came out of college (Clemson) in 2010 because he was a standout track star. Durability problems and inconsistency have plagued him during his pro career. We're not expecting QB Matt Flynn to stretch the field with his arm which makes Ford a non-factor for fantasy owners in re-draft leagues.

DEN - Manuel Ramirez tops depth chart

Source: USAToday.com - Lindsay H. Jones

Denver Broncos C Manuel Ramirez is listed as the team's No. 1 center on the first unofficial depth chart of the preseason. He is ahead of a host of others, including C J.D. Walton and recently signed OG Ryan Lilja.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ramirez has been working as the starter this offseason. However, that's largely due to Walton being hurt. Lilja was just added last week but some feel he could end up starting for the Broncos because of his experience with QB Peyton Manning.

DEN - TE Julius Thomas getting chance to shine

Source: USAToday.com - Lindsay H. Jones

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas has been making a case for significant playing time once the regular season arrives, as he works with the first-team offense while TEs Joel Dreessen (knee) and Jacob Tamme (quadriceps) are on the sidelines nursing injuries.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is the first year Thomas has had a full offseason of work. During his rookie year (2011) there was a lockout. Last year he missed minicamp, OTAs, and training camp as he recovered from ankle surgery. The former Portland State basketball star is built like a super sized WR and creates mismatches when he's on the field. If he can stay healthy and continue to impress we wouldn't be surprised to see him start for the Broncos. He'll still probably only be a bye/injury TE2, but dynasty leaguers need to monitor any possible starting TE in a Peyton Manning led offense - especially one with Thomas' talent.

DEN - TE Joel Dreessen out for remainder of camp

Source: USAToday.com - Lindsay H. Jones

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos TE Joel Dreessen (knee) will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to further clean up the join, a person with knowledge of the situation said Sunday, Aug. 4. He is expected to miss the remainder of training camp as a result of the procedure.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dreessen is the best blocking TE on this team and a quality target in the red zone. With him missing time in the preseason we'll see more snaps for TEs Julius Thomas and Virgil Green. Jacob Tamme has also been missing time due to a quadriceps injury.

OAK - QB Terrelle Pryor improving

Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Vic Tafur

Oakland Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor has improved his accuracy and has been making big plays during training camp. Offensive coordinator Greg Olson said Pryor is waiting inside the pocket too long at times and is not using his athleticism to run when he has the opportunity. Olson said the team will use Pryor in the red zone this season and indicated the team may use the read option.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pryor has pulled away from Tyler Wilson as the #2 quarterback for the Raiders. If Matt Flynn disappoints, Pryor will get a look, and if he is even competent as a passer, that will equal near-QB1 fantasy numbers because Pryor is a formidable running quarterback. We're looking forward to evaluating his throwing ability to see if it has truly improved in the preseason.

CIN - No timetable for WR Andrew Hawkins

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Joe Reedy

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said WR Andrew Hawkins' (ankle) sprained ankle is getting better but that there is still no timetable for his return.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hawkins picked a bad time to get injured, as both first-round pick Tyler Eifert and second-round pick Giovani Bernard look to play big roles in the passing game from day one. Mohamed Sanu is also healthy and showing what he can do in the slot. Hawkins is a player with the talent to be a lot more productive in a less crowded situation.

GB - PK Mason Crosby struggles Saturday

Source: Packers.com - Mike Spofford

Green Bay Packers PK Mason Crosby made only three of his eight field goal attempts during practice Saturday, Aug. 3. Head coach Mike McCarthy said he will need to perform better if he wants to keep his kicker job. PK Giorgio Tavecchio made six of his seven attempts but appeared to barely have the leg strength for the longer field goals.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crosby is not safe to draft right now. Tavecchio should be one of the better kickers to own if he wins the job. McCarthy said ominously said Crosby's performance is "not going to cut it" in an interesting choice of words.

CHI - WR Earl Bennett may have concussion

Source: ESPNChicago.com - Michael C. Wright

Chicago Bears WR Earl Bennett (head) is being evaluated for a possible concussion.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bennett was sidelined for multiple weeks with a concussion last December, so this is worrisome. Look for the Bears to pick up a veteran free agent or two like the 49ers did earlier this week. Seventh-round pick Marquess Wilson could be thrust into the third wide receiver role in the meantime. Martellus Bennett could be a more prominent target in this offense if the Bears lack an accomplished #3 receiver.

OAK - RB Taiwan Jones working as cornerback

Source: CSNBayArea.com - Scott Bair

Oakland Raiders CB Taiwan Jones has been converted from running back to cornerback, has reportedly shown solid coverage ability and reactionary instincts early on in training camp.

HOU - DE J.J. Watt dealing with injury

Source: NFL.com

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (elbow) is dealing with a sore elbow, but the team is not concerned about the injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watt could probably play with one arm tied behind his back and still notch 10 sacks. He's far and away the #1 IDP this year.
