SITE NEWS

A. Win. Your. League. With a Footballguys Insider Subscription
The Daily Email Updates are hopefully a helpful part of your Fantasy Football Experience. But they're just the tip of the iceberg of what we do. Click on the title link and see 13 reasons why you need to be a Footballguys Insider.

B. 3 Year Footballguys Insider Subscription Returns
We initially took this away as an option, because we hated the idea that someone purchased the 3 year expecting something and that feature was changed/dropped, etc.

We have a lot of people asking us to bring it back though. And the truth is these are the guys that have been with us for the longest and our biggest cheerleaders.

So we have brought it back. It's $64.95 for the three-years. This will add on to whatever balance you have.

For people that wanted this option, but it wasn't available:

- You can request a refund by sending an email to: gray@footballguys.com - Put REFUND in the Subject
- Just add on another three years to what you have

We are making no guarantee that we will be offering this next year or beyond. But we will feel we pulled the rug out without notice this year and decided to change course to our most loyal readership.

C. New Versions Of Our Mobile Apps are LIVE - Android Too!
We're not content to sit on our heels with our Mobile Apps. We've rolled out brand new updated versions of both the Draft GM and the Footballguys Magazine Draft Kit. AND, we've released the Footballguys Magazine Draft Kit for Android Tablets. (like the iOS version, the Magazine Draft Kit is only for tablets - it's too big for phones). Check them out.

And please help us by rating the apps. Mobile apps live and die with ratings and reviews. If you have a second, would you please rate and maybe even review the app? We'd love to hear from you.

D. Rearview QB
Our Chase Stuart looks at which quarterbacks faced the easiest schedules last year? Which ones had to deal with the toughest defenses? You may be surprised to see what this reveals about Colin Kaepernick, Robert Griffin III and Michael Vick.

E. The Case for Sloughing Quarterback in your Draft
Our Sigmund Bloom tells you why you might be able to get away with not taking one of the top 12 quarterbacks in fantasy leagues this year. Can you really live with Josh Freeman or Andy Dalton as your first QB drafted? You can if you follow the rest of our plan.

F. Believe It or Not: Preseason
Our Heath Cummings takes a look at coach speak and media darlings in the preseason and whether you should buy the hype. Can you believe the stories about the Eagles QB competition being wide open? That Packers RB Eddie Lacy is out of shape? That Michael Crabtree's injury has opened the door for Vernon Davis to have a monster season? Heath answers all these plus more.

G. Player Spotlight: Arian Foster
Our Heath Cummings with a detailed look at Arian Foster's fantasy prospects for 2013. We look at how his offensive line will impact Foster's 2013 season. Should we worry about the decline in efficiency? How serious is the calf injury? Heath takes a look at all these and more.

H. Player Spotlight: Brandon Marshall
Our Steve Holloway takes a detailed look at Brandon Marshall's fantasy prospects for 2013. How does Jay Cutler impact Marshall? How will Marshall be affected by new coach Marc Trestman? How will the other receivers help or hurt Marshall? We look at all this and more.

CLE - RB Trent Richardson sitting out practice

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson (shin) is not participating in practice Saturday, Aug. 3.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It sounds like the missed time after getting kicked in the shin is merely a precaution for Richardson. Unless he misses weeks, not days with this ailment, we won't get worried.

WAS - Will keep Robert Griffin on current practice routine

Source: The Washington Post - Mark Maske

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said the team will continue to hold QB Robert Griffin III (knee) out of team drills until after the first preseason game when they come up with another plan for Griffin's practice routine.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It has become such a given that Griffin will be ready for week 1 that these kinds of stories are mostly going unnoticed. We're watching for any sign that there has been a setback or reason to lower expectations for Griffin this year, but this doesn't seem like that kind of development. He's still a great pick as one of the last QB1's off of the board because the QB2 tier is so deep and strong this year.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell sitting

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) is out of practice Saturday, Aug. 3, with a bruised left knee.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No word on the severity at this time. It sounds like a minor injury and the team is just being cautious with their rookie. Bell is the favorite to win the starting job in 2013.

TB - Will address QB Josh Freeman's contract later

Source: JoeBucsFan.com

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will wait until after the season to address QB Josh Freeman's contract. He's in the final year of his deal.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's literally a make or break year for Freeman in 2013. He looked good last year for the first thirteen games of the season, throwing 25TDs and only eight INTs during that stretch. However, in the final three games of 2012 he threw only two TDs and nine INTs. He needs to prove he can be consistent throughout the season and avoid collapsing down the stretch, or third-round pick Mike Glennon could get a look late in the season.

ARI - Ryan Williams update

Source: Xtra 910 Radio - Mike Jurecki

Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (knee) is still receiving treatment on his knee and could return before the first preseason game next weekend.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams needs to get healthy and prove himself for the new regime in Arizona. He was spotted on crutches today, which is never what you want to hear. He's a talented back but durability problems have derailed his pro career. The Cardinals selected Stepfan Taylor (Stanford) and Andre Ellington (Clemson) in the 2013 NFL draft. Either one could win the primary backup job behind Rashard Mendenhall if Williams fails to impress.

WAS - No swelling for QB Robert Griffin III

Source: ESPN980 - Chris Russell

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said QB Robert Griffin III (knee) has had no swelling in his surgically repaired knee, and his arm strength is good.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the second-year QB here. He's coming back from knee surgery and we're not likely to see much from Griffin in the preseason. Most feel he's on track to be ready for the start of the regular season.

NE - WR Julian Edelman solid in scrimmage

Source: NESN.com - Doug Kyed

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman dropped a few passes but had a solid outing during the team's scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 3.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Edelman is an important player for fantasy owners to remember in their draft. He's competing for targets behind Danny Amendola and Aaron Dobson. He's one of those WRs outside the top 50 that could outperform his ADP.

BUF - Stevie Johnson hopes to be ready for Week 1

Source: The Buffalo News - Mark Gaughan

Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson (hamstring) said he will receive treatment on his pulled hamstring and hopes to be ready for the start of the regular season. He said he could be out one week or a few weeks depending on how the hamstring feels.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hamstring injuries are known to linger if not treated properly. The Bills will be careful with the veteran WR as he deals with this injury.

CLE - OC sees RB Trent Richardson as every-down back

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner believes RB Trent Richardson is an every-down running back that can handle 300 carries and 60 receptions this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Turner knows how to build an incredible ground game. Richardson is a steal if he falls to the second round of your fantasy draft. Richardson has the ability to be the top RB in fantasy football if he can stay healthy and play up to his potential. Three RBs on teams Turner has coached have captured a total of five NFL rushing titles.

CLE - Preparing QB Brandon Weeden to be starter

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns offensive coordaintor Norv Turner said the team is preparing QB Brandon Weeden to be the starting quarterback this season. Turner said he does not expect Weeden to lose the job during preseason games. Weeden has looked good with his mechanics but looks like he has been thinking too much which has resulted in some interceptions.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Weeden is getting a chance to prove himself to the new regime. The system under Turner should use more shotgun formations and downfield passing to help Weeden be more comfortable.

SEA - WR Sidney Rice describes procedure

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice (knee) took part in some drills Friday, Aug. 2, but he did not take part in the team's scrimmage. Rice talked about the procedure he had done in Switzerland, which he said was similar to Platelet-rich Plasma treatment on his knee.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rice also said that it's going to take a few weeks to know if the procedure worked. The Seahawks need it to work as they'll already be missing WR Percy Harvin for a majority of the season. Rice's current ADP (WR46) reflects his injury concern.

NYJ - QB competition fairly even

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Geno Smith has outperformed QB Mark Sanchez during the first week of training camp but the competition is believed to be fairly even because of Sanchez's experience. Smith and Sanchez are expected to split reps evenly with the first-team offense during the team's scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 3. Smith said he believes the scrimmage will give him a chance to show the coaches what he can do.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Smith and Sanchez are even now, Smith will have to get worse to lose the job because there's no reason for the Jets to slow his development by putting Sanchez on the field when the two are close. Look for Smith to win the job, which is good for the offense. It would also add another quarterback that could be a solid waiver wire pickup early in the season, assuming the Jets also install some read option looks in the running game.

NYG - QB Eli Manning looking to be more accurate

Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he is looking to improve his accuracy because his completion percentage has dropped each of the last two seasons. 'Being more accurate and better on our deep balls,' Manning said. 'Our big plays were down last year, and that's a big part of our offense. We're going to use play-action, we're going to get the ball down the field. We're not scared about pushing the ball down the field. But it's good when it pays off and you hit big plays and game-changing plays. Last year, I think we had opportunities to hit them and we just didn't hit them. So I think that's what we've got to get better at, is just kind of connecting on some of those deep balls.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ah if becoming more accurate as a passer was just a function of how hard a quarterback tried to improve that quality. Still, Manning is a value as a high QB2 that you can get in the 11th round or later. With good health from Hakeem Nicks and continued development from Rueben Randle, Manning could easily be a QB1 at season's end.

SF - WR Kyle Williams listed as starter

Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams is listed as the starting wide receiver opposite WR Anquan Boldin on the team's first depth chart.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a spot that will continue to be competed for as training camp continues. Williams is at the top now but will have to hold of guys like A.J. Jenkins and Quinton Patton. Both Williams and Jenkins have been missing time in camp due to hamstring injuries.

BUF - QB Kevin Kolb injured knee

Source: The Buffalo News - Mark Gaughan

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone said QB Kevin Kolb (knee) is considered day-to-day after he slipped on a rubber mat and tweaked his knee prior to practice Saturday, Aug. 3.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The injury is considered minor at this time. Any missed time hurts Kolb as he's competing with first-round pick E.J. Manuel (Florida State) to be the team's starting QB.

DET - PK David Akers still not at full strength

Source: MLive.com - Justin Rogers

Detroit Lions PK David Akers (hernia) is still working his way back to full strength, and he did not work with the kickoff units in practice Friday, Aug. 2. PKs Sam Martin and Havard Rugland worked with the kickoff units, with Martin only simulating kicks and Rugland blasting three through the back of the end zone.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rugland, better known as "Kickalicious", has been having a terrific camp and could beat Akers. Don't draft a Detroit kicker until we have better clarity in this situation.

DET - Patrick Edwards seeing first-team reps

Source: MLive.com - Justin Rogers

Detroit Lions WR Patrick Edwards has worked frequently with the first team offense during training camp, taking snaps in place of WRs Nate Burleson and Ryan Broyles.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Edwards is a waterbug slot receiver who was extremely productive at Houston in college. He also has come all the way back from horrific compound fracture in his leg suffered when he ran into a cart on the sidelines in a game in 2008. He's worth monitoring in deep PPR leagues.

BAL - Michael Oher prefers RT

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson

Baltimore Ravens OT Michael Oher said he prefers to play right tackle because he believes it is his best position. 'I prefer playing right tackle,' Oher said. 'I've flip-flopped back and forth ever since I got here and played both sides, but I think right tackle is my best position. I think I'm better over there and the team is better with me over there.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We agree with Oher's assessment of his play. Left tackle Bryant McKinnie needs stay in shape and in good health to keep Oher in his better position.

SD - King Dunlap has edge in LT competition

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Kevin Acee

San Diego Chargers OT King Dunlap appears to have an edge in the competition for starting left tackle job because he has performed better than OT Max Starks during practice.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's hard to say whether that is a reason to be optimistic about Dunlap or pessimistic about the Chargers line in general. Either way, it'll be an upset if the San Diego offensive line is even middling this year compared to their AFC West counterparts. It might be another long season for Philip Rivers and Ryan Mathews.

ARI - RB Rashard Mendenhall to sit a few days

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals RB Rashard Mendenhall (knee) was not participating in practice Saturday, Aug. 3, because of knee tendinitis and needs a few days of rest. Head coach Bruce Arians said he expects Mendenhall to practice Monday, Aug. 5.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As long as Mendenhall practices on Monday, this will seem more like maintenance than a reason to doubt the fitness of Mendenhall's surgically-repaired knee. With Mendenhall and Williams on the sideline, fifth-round pick Stepfan Taylor all of sudden becomes the first team back because of his all-around skillset. Remember him and Andre Ellington if Mendenhall and Williams continue to battle balky knees throughout August.

DAL - WR Terrance Williams has concussion

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Calvin Watkins

Dallas Cowboys WR Terrance Williams (concussion) has been diagnosed with a concussion and is considered doubtful to play in the Hall of Fame Game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams appeared to be pulling ahead of Dwayne Harris on the depth chart, but this development could allow Harris to seize the #3 wide receiver job entering the season.

NE - RB Shane Vereen does not take part Saturday

Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen (undisclosed) was in uniform for the team's scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 3, but did not participate in the scrimmage after suffering an undisclosed injury Friday, Aug. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's difficult to get any information about injuries out of Patriots camp. Watch the practice report to see if Vereen can get back in action soon.

TB - WR Mike Williams expected back soon

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Joe Smith

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said WR Mike Williams (hamstring) should be able to practice Monday, Aug. 5. Williams wanted to practice Saturday, Aug. 3, but was held out.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams just signed a new long-term extention in July so the team doesn't want to aggravate the injury after making such an investment. He should be back on the practice field soon and see plenty of time in the preseason.

KC - Jonathan Baldwin injures hand

Source: The Kansas City Star - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jonathan Baldwin (hand) suffered a hand injury during practice Saturday, Aug. 3, but was able to continue practicing.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Baldwin is already struggling to impress in camp as he competes for the starting job opposite Dwayne Bowe. An injury won't help his chances of winning the spot. He's battling with Donnie Avery for that job. Dexter McCluster and Devon Wylie are competing for playing time in the slot.

SD - TE Antonio Gates rested

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (foot) was given his first day off of training camp Friday, Aug. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

So far, so good with the foot that gave Gates problems in 2011. Unfortunately, he didn't look nearly as good last year as he did in 2011, so it's hard to advocate taking him as anything more than a high floor TE2.

MIA - Two WRs unlikely to play in preseason game

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace (groin) and WR Brian Hartline (calf) want to play in the Hall of Fame Game but likely will not because they are dealing with injuries. Both players missed practice Friday, Aug. 2.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

On the plus side, this should allow Ryan Tannehill to get some targets to new receivers Brandon Gibson and Dustin Keller in the few series he works in Canton this weekend.

DET - S Louis Delmas still sitting

Source: ESPN.com - Kevin Seifert

Detroit Lions FS Louis Delmas (knee) did not participate in practice Saturday, Aug. 3, and has missed the last four days of practice. Head coach Jim Schwartz said Delmas has dealt with some knee soreness and swelling.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Different season, same story for Delmas, who is developing a Bob Sanders-esque reputation. At least the Lions picked up Glover Quin in the offseason to give them the best strong safety they have had in a long time.
