WAS - Robert Griffin does not expect to play in preseason

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (knee) said he does not expect to play in the preseason unless the coaches tell him otherwise. Griffin said he believes he would be ready for the regular season if he did not play in preseason games.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team has a goal of having Griffin ready for the start of the regular season. He'll be limited in training camp and we'd be shocked if he received any reps in the preseason.

DEN - OLB Von Miller appeal in August

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Denver Broncos LB Von Miller is expected to have his appeal hearing for his four-game suspension in mid-August. A resolution is expected before the regular season starts.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Some feel Miller could see a reduction to his four game suspension. Only time will tell as several players proclaim innocence but few win anything in the appeals process.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant lighting up camp

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Calvin Watkins

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is lighting up training camp early on, and he and QB Tony Romo have incredible chemistry right now.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant has matured and become a superstar in the NFL. He still hasn't peaked as a pro and is easily a top 3 WR in the game today. Bryant will compete with the likes of Calvin Johnson (Lions), A.J. Green (Bengals), and Demaryius Thomas (Broncos) to be the top fantasy WR in 2013.

NO - RB Mark Ingram, RB Pierre Thomas expected to share carries

Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints RBs Mark Ingram and Pierre Thomas are expected to evenly split carries in base packages this season with RB Darren Sproles resuming is role as a multi-purpose running back.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ingram is healthy this offseason and could outperform his current ADP (RB38) in 2013. The Saints may have a bigger commitment (not that big, but bigger than last year) with the return of head coach Sean Payton.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart's participation uncertain

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said team does not know how much RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) will be able to practice until he undergoes an extensive physical Thursday, July 25.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This physical will determine how much Stewart will be able to practice this year. Durability is a huge (and ongoing) concern with Stewart and fantasy owners need to take note. Stewart's current ADP is RB35 and he's coming off the board at 7.09 in 12 team PPR leagues.

TB - Unsure if CB Darrelle Revis will play in preseason

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said he is not sure if CB Darrelle Revis (knee) will be allowed to play in any of the preseason games. Schiano said it probably will depend on how Revis looks during practice.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Revis was the key addition for the Bucs this offseason. There's no need to rush him back until he's ready. If healthy Revis should resume his title as top CB in the league.

MIA - WR Mike Wallace underwhelming

Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace hasn't impressed anyone during offseason team activities or so far in training camp, and he hasn't shown good chemistry with QB Ryan Tannehill, either. Wallace has been dropping passes and doesn't consistently run full speed in practices, and he hasn't connected on a long pass in 11-on-11 drills with Tannehill all offseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is not what Dolphins' fans and fantasy owners want to hear. Wallace signed a five year $60MM deal this offseason to give Miami a huge boost for their passing game. On The Audible Kelly said Tannehill was locking onto WR Brian Hartline when in trouble. Chemistry takes time so perhaps Wallace and Tannehill can get on the same page at some point this year. Wallace's current ADP is WR21 and he's coming off the board at 6.01 in 12 team PPR leagues.

NYJ - Expected to bring back WR Braylon Edwards

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

The New York Jets are expected to re-sign free-agent WR Braylon Edwards if he is able to pass his physical.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Edwards has good chemistry with QB Mark Sanchez but has struggled through various injuries over the last few years. The Jets need to add to their WR corps, especially if Santonio Holmes (foot) isn't ready for the start of the regular season.

TB - WR Mike Williams agrees to extension

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed WR Mike Williams to a five-year, $40.25 million extension that will run through the 2018 season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams is a young player on the rise and the Bucs get him at a good price here. He's good in the red zone and provides the team with a quality target opposite WR1 Vincent Jackson. Williams is durable, having never missed a game during his pro career. Per NFL.com Williams is the only WR to earn an extension in excess of $40MM without having registered a 1,000 yard season.

TEN - QB Jake Locker under spotlight

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker (shoulder) enters his third season as a pro, and the spotlight will be bright on him. He completed just 56.4 percent of his passes last season while throwing only 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 11 games. However, despite having shoulder surgery in January, Locker appears more prepared for this season than previous ones. 'It is his team now and he knows it,' OT Michael Roos said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Locker needs to prove he can be the franchise QB the team envisioned when they selected him in the first-round of the 2011 NFL draft. They added weapons around him this year and upgraded the interior O-Line to help protect him better. It's essentially a make or break year for Locker in 2013.

CHI - WR Brandon Marshall won't be limited

Source: ESPNChicago.com - Michael C. Wright

Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall (hip) expects to have a full workload during training camp, which begins Friday, July 26. WR Alshon Jeffery (hamstring), who missed organized team activities in June with a pulled hamstring, is also expected to be fully healthy. 'No limitations,' Marshall said, 'but we're gonna be smart. I'm going on my eighth year, (have) had a few hip surgeries, nothing major. But at the same time, we start playing games in September. So that's what I'm preparing for. It's important to get out there with your teammates, build that chemistry, learn the offense, get reps. But at the same time, if I'm not healthy, all that doesn't matter. So I'm going to listen to my body, and go as it tells me.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Marshall could have another monster season this year. New head coach Marc Trestman is known for his creative offensive mind and that should boost the passing numbers for the Bears offense this year. Marshall's current ADP is WR4 and he's coming off the board at 2.06 in 12 team PPR leagues.

NYJ - OC says QB Geno Smith close to game ready

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said QB Geno Smith needs to work on some things but believes he is close to being game ready. 'I think Geno's close,' Mornhinweg said. 'I don't think he's there yet. But he's close to being able to get into a game and function at a high level. So our whole challenge - and his challenge - is that first preseason game. Now let's get to a point where you can function at a high level.' Mornhinweg said Smith is farther along than most rookie quarterbacks and can get away with some mechanical flaws because of his athleticism. Mornhinweg would not comment on if the team would use Smith in some way if he does not win the starting job.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Early reports indicate Mark Sanchez may have the edge for the starting job over Smith but it's too early to say which way things will go. The Jets are toying with the idea of using Smith as a change of pace QB if he's not the starter. That may not be the best idea as Smith was a pocket passer in college even though he's incredibly athletic.

MIA - QB Ryan Tannehill, WR Mike Wallace working on chemistry

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill and WR Mike Wallace have been working on their chemistry during the first few practices of training camp. Wallace has been catching a lot of passes on out routes and slants.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a work in progress and fantasy owners need to know this is a process that will take time. Wallace has not stood out yet in camp but it's still early. We'll see if the struggles continue as we work through camp and the preseason.

TEN - QB Jake Locker will get a lot of time in preseason

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said QB Jake Locker likely will start all four preseason games and get as many reps as possible during the games. Locker said he believes the extra reps will help him get ready for the regular season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Locker needs all the time he can get. It's a make or break year for Locker and he needs to prove that he can be the franchise QB the team envisioned when they selected him in the first-round of the 2011 NFL draft.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant sees self as leader

Source: ESPNDallas.com - Tim MacMahon

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant views himself as a blossoming leader for his team after his breakout 2012 campaign. He has managed to keep his nose clean, and owner Jerry Jones and head coach Jason Garrett continue to heap praise upon him for his newfound maturity. 'I think there's no backwards for me,' Bryant said. He acknowledges his career took off when he found peace in his personal life.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant has matured and is now developing into a superstar in the NFL. The team appreciates his turnaround and will continue to feature him as QB Tony Romo's top target.

CLE - Three QBs expected to be on roster

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns CEO Joe Banner said Wednesday, July 24, that he anticipates all three quarterbacks, QBs Brandon Weeden, Jason Campbell and Brian Hoyer, will be on the roster this season, but the club will always look for ways to improve the team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This was expected from the get go. Weeden will be the starter as he tries to impress upon the new regime that he can be a franchise QB. Campbell and Hoyer will compete to be the primary backup.

TEN - Is RB Chris Johnson faster than a cheetah?

Source: ESPNChicago.com

Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson and Chicago Bears WR Devin Hester each took turns racing a cheetah for a cable TV show which will air in November.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is officially awesome. It would be even better if Johnson and Hester could outrun a Sharknado.

KC - QB Ricky Stanzi's future cloudy

Source: The Kansas City Star - Adam Teicher and Randy Covitz

Kansas City Chiefs QB Ricky Stanzi is the only quarterback on the team's roster not acquired by new head coach Andy Reid and new general manager John Dorsey, and he finds himself fighting for a roster spot. QB Alex Smith is the unquestioned starter, and QB Chase Daniel is the top backup. That leaves Stanzi and QB Tyler Bray fighting for the No. 3 job. 'We're splitting reps. I'm just really worried about the reps I got. It's been nice to be out here a couple of days early just to refresh with the playbook and kind of get up to speed with the guys, especially with the receivers.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stanzi has a strong arm but struggles with accuracy. Bray has a stronger arm but struggles with accuracy as well. We'll see if Bray can struggle less and thus stick around on the final roster or the practice squad.

TEN - Two sign, two released

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

The Tennessee Titans have signed RB Jackie Battle (Chargers) and TE DeMarco Cosby (Packers). Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived RB Alvester Alexander and QB Nathan Enderle.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Battle comes in to give the team insurance as a power back behind Shonn Greene. We're not expecting much from him even if he does get a chance at a few carries.

TEN - WR Kevin Walter's job at risk

Source: ESPN.com

Tennessee Titans WR Kevin Walter (back) could be out another four to five weeks, which could put his job at risk during training camp and the preseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Walter is certainly on the roster bubble. He's currently buried on the Titans depth chart behind Kenny Britt, Kendall Wright, Nate Washington, Justin Hunter, and Damian Williams.

TB - TE Luke Stocker placed on PUP list

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed TE Luke Stocker (calf) on the Physically Unable to Perform list because of a calf injury.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bucs could look to add a TE via free agency. Stocker is pencilled in as the starter but lacks experience and has problems with dropping too many passes. They recently worked out free agent TE Visanthe Shiancoe.

CHI - No contract extensions this season

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery said the team will not sign any player to a contract extension this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This means QB Jay Cutler will play out his remaining contract. Cutler could earn a huge payday if he plays up to his potential in 2013. The Bears have made several steps to better protect him this season. They also added a quality weapon when they picked up TE Martellus Bennett in free agency.

DEN - Ryan Clady to sit the first few weeks of practice

Source: The Denver Post - Mike Klis

The Denver Broncos plan to hold OT Ryan Clady (shoulder) out of practice for the first two or three weeks of training camp so he can continue his recovery from shoulder surgery. OT Chris Clark will start at left tackle in the first preseason game and may also start the second preseason game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This makes sense for the Broncos. Clady just signed a long-term agreement worth $52.5MM over the next five years with $33MM guaranteed. The team wants to make sure their franchise left tackle suffers no setbacks before the start of the regular season.

CLE - Teammate says WR Josh Gordon has to make better choices

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns LB D'Qwell Jackson said WR Josh Gordon needs to make better choices off the field if he wants to stay in the league for a long time. 'No matter how many bodies you put in front of him or people who speak to him, Josh has to be willing to make a change for himself,' Jackson said. 'I could talk to him all day if I wanted to. [Head coach Rob Chudzinski] could talk to him all day if he wanted to, but itís not going to do any good unless he takes that next step. He doesnít have that many lives left Ö Heís got one more time to really straighten things up before heís got to leave. I think he is starting to realize that.' Gordon has been suspended for the first two games of the 2013 season and could face a year-long suspension if he fails another drug test.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hopefully Gordon listens to Jackson here. He's an incredibly talented receiver but had off field concerns dating back to his days in college at Baylor and Utah.

NFL - WR Steve Breaston thinks he will play this season

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Free-agent WR Steve Breaston (Chiefs) said the offseason has allowed his knee to heal and believes he will be able to play for some team this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

You gotta believe right? Breaston has drawn a little interest on the open market but teams are concerned about his durability and haven't jumped at the chance to sign him so far.

MIA - RB Marcus Thigpen clear favorite for return job

Source: ESPN.com - James Walker

Miami Dolphins RB Marcus Thigpen appears to be the clear favorite for the kick return duties this season. RB Lamar Miller, WR Jasper Collins and CB Nolan Carroll have also received kick return reps during practice.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller is likely to win the starting RB job for the Dolphins in 2013. They don't need to get him hurt as a return man.

DAL - RB Phillip Tanner drops weight

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Charean Williams

Dallas Cowboys RB Phillip Tanner said he lost around 10 pounds this offseason in hopes of being quicker this season. He said the extra weight hindered him from getting to the hole at times last season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tanner wants to be more explosive and win a spot on the final roster. He's competing with Lance Dunbar to be the team's RB3 behind Demarco Murray and rookie Joseph Randle (Oklahoma State).

NYG - WR Rueben Randle ready for bigger role

Source: New York Daily News - Ebenezer Samuel

New York Giants WR Rueben Randle turned heads during the offseason program, and he is ready for a bigger role in the offense behind WRs Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks. However, Randle is not locked into the third receiver job yet, as he needs to hold off WRs Ramses Barden, Jerrel Jernigan and Louis Murphy, among others.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Randle is talented and has a nice mixture of size and speed. He was raw coming out of LSU but has the upside to be a quality starter and impact player for the Giants. The Giants may rely on him more than some think if Hakeem Nicks battles with injury once again this year.

MIN - QB Christian Ponder needs to produce

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder must show improvement, and that he is growing as a quarterback. If he struggles this season, the team is not likely to hesitate to go to QB Matt Cassel as its starter. Plenty of people in the league still believe Cassel is underrated, and he could fare well in Minnesota. However, it is Ponder's starting job to lose.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Vikings want to make a run at the postseason and won't hesitate to pull the plug on Ponder if he's struggling. Cassel isn't the greatest option but the veteran might be able to move the chains by handing off to Adrian Peterson and effectively running play action passes.

TEN - WR Kevin Walter expected to begin on PUP

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Kevin Walter (back) is expected to start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list heading into training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Walter needs to get healthy and stay healthy if he wants to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. He had a scope on his back after missing OTAs in June. Indications are Walter could still take part in preseason games later in August after a complete recovery.

SF - TE Vance McDonald mimicking predecessor

Source: The Mercury News - Cam Inman

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald said blocking has been a big emphasis the past two days in practice, and he is trying to mimic the strides of his predecessor, TE Delanie Walker (Titans).

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hopefully he doesn't mimic the way Walker used to drop several easy passes. McDonald is an intriguing athlete and can line up at several different spots in the formation. Coming out of Rice McDonald reminded some in the scouting community of former Ravens TE Todd Heap because of his size/speed combination. McDonald is built like a traditional in-line TE but worked mostly out of the slot as a move TE.

49ers| GM doesn't rule out WR Randy Moss

Source: The Mercury News - Cam Inman

San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke declined to rule out re-signing free-agent WR Randy Moss (49ers), but he declined to say if the veteran had inquired about coming back. 'I can't say whether he has or hasn't. Once again, nobody's off limits. Nobody,' Baalke said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moss wasn't overly productive last year for the 49ers posting a measly 28 catches. The team could look outside the facility for WR help if guys like A.J. Jenkins, Ricardo Lockette, and Kyle Williams don't impress in camp.

TEN - TE Delanie Walker to begin on PUP

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (knee) will begin camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list as he recovers from arthroscopic knee surgery.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Walker suffered the knee injury earlier this offseason but shrugged it off as not a big deal. The Titans are going to get longer looks at guys like Taylor Thompson and Craig Stevens as Walker is expected to miss a few weeks of camp.

MIA - DE Dion Jordan expects to start

Source: NFL.com - Gregg Rosenthal

Miami Dolphins DE Dion Jordan (shoulder) said he believes he will be ready for the start of the regular season and that he will be one of the starting defensive ends.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love the confidence from Jordan here. However, he's unlikely to be in the starting lineup for week one. He can be an effective part time pass rusher until he further develops his pro game.

BAL - OLB Terrell Suggs on a mission

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Mike Preston

Baltimore Ravens LB Terrell Suggs appears to be lighter, faster and stronger this season. His dedication in the offseason shows he's on a mission. 'I've just been watching, listening and reading what people have been saying about us, and I don't feel people respect us for what we accomplished last season and the group we have assembled this year,' Suggs said. 'I know critics are supposed to have their opinions, but I'm getting pumped to prove them wrong.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Suggs missed half of the regular season last year with an Achilles' injury. Even when he returned he didn't quite look the same. Now that he's feeling better we should see an even more effective Ravens defense in 2013.
