DEN - RB Montee Ball will have chance to win starting job

Source: DenverBroncos.com - Gray Caldwell

The Denver Broncos will give RB Montee Ball every opportunity to earn the starting running back job at some point this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos are likely to use a RBBC and may platoon RBs per series so they don't slow down the new Adam Gase up tempo offense. Second-year pro Ronnie Hillman received most of the first-team reps (about 75%) this offseason and should enter training camp as the starter. If Ball doesn't win the job in camp he may get the nod at some point during the regular season. Ball's current ADP is RB23 (3.11) and Hillman's current ADP is RB49 (10.06)

HOU - WR Andre Johnson losing some explosiveness?

Source: NationalFootballPost.com - Len Pasquarelli

Some opponents believe Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson has lost a half step and do not think he is as explosive has he was in the past.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's true, he's not the same player he used to be but Johnson is still one of the best WRs in the game today. Johnson could see better coverage this year since the team added top flight WR DeAndre Hopkins (Clemson) in the first-round of the 2013 NFL draft. Johnson's current ADP is WR10 and he's coming off the board at 3.11 in 12 team PPR leagues.

ATL - QB Matt Ryan expected to get new deal soon

Source: NationalFootballPost.com - Len Pasquarelli

The Atlanta Falcons are expected to sign QB Matt Ryan to a contract extension in the next month or so. Ryan likely will receive $20 million per season in his next contract.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ryan is going to get his new contract in the near future. He's likely to exceed the $52MM guaranteed that Joe Flacco (Ravens) got earlier this offseason.

ATL - RB Steven Jackson may not play much in preseason

Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Daniel Cox

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter indicated RB Steven Jackson may not receive much playing time during the preseason because he is an experienced runner but will allow head coach Mike Smith to make the decision. 'Coach Smith will determine how many carries he gets, but I donít believe Steven Jackson needs a bunch of touches in the preseason. You can only run inside zone, outside zone so many times. He doesnít need to go out there and prove himself. Preseason is live tackling and getting your running backs beat up in the preseason, I donít see the benefit. Coach Smith will determine how many carries he gets,' Koetter said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Jackson is a seasoned veteran back who doesn't need a ton of reps in exhibition season. This will open the door for guys like Jacquizz Rodgers, Jason Snelling, Antone Smith to get more reps this preseason.

NE - QB Tim Tebow expected to work at QB only

Source: ESPNBoston.com - Field Yates

New England Patriots QB Tim Tebow is expected to work only as a quarterback during training camp and likely will not see any time at tight end.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Many assume the Patriots are reeling at the TE position since they released Aaron Hernandez. That's simply not the case. They have a few guys at the position behind Rob Gronkowski that will compete for playing time. Daniel Fells, Jake Ballard, Michael Hoomanawanui, and Zach Sudfeld will all try to make an impression in training camp.

NE - Two RBs could get bigger roles

Source: ESPNBoston.com - Field Yates

New England Patriots RBs Brandon Bolden and Shane Vereen could receive bigger roles in the offense this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bolden has to beat out LeGarrette Blount first. The Patriots traded for power back Blount earlier this offseason and he could win the primary backup job over Bolden. Vereen will get more playing time in many different roles. The team could split him out wide as a receiver in addition to giving him carries and passes out of the backfield.

CLE - Both backup QBs expected to make team

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns QBs Jason Campbell and Brian Hoyer are both expected to make the final roster.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns want veteran depth behind second-year starter Brandon Weeden. The team has been impressed by Weeden's offseason work ethic as he learns the new Norv Turner offense.

DEN - TE Julius Thomas' role uncertain

Source: DenverBroncos.com - Gray Caldwell

Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas' role on offense this season is uncertain because he is behind TEs Jacob Tamme and Joel Dreessen on the depth chart.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The TE position is going to be de-emphasized in the new Adam Gase offense. Thomas is a former basketball star from Portland State and has the athleticism to create mismatches every time he's on the field. If he stays healthy and impresses during training camp then perhaps he'll get some first-team reps during the season. Thomas has not been healthy (ankle) since his rookie training camp (2011), but is healthy now and has been turning heads this offseason.

JAX - New rule unlikely to affect RB Maurice Jones-Drew

Source: Jaguars.com

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew is not expected to affected much by the new rule that does not allow runners to lower their helmets to create contact with defenders.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones-Drew is built low to the ground and he's known to lower his shoulder to plow through defenders. This new rule will only apply to runners who lower their heads and use the crown of their helmet as a striking surface.

MIA - QB Matt Moore explains choice to re-sign

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins QB Matt Moore said he re-signed with the team this offseason because he did not feel good about any of the situations where he would compete for the starting job with another team.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moore gives the Dolphins veteran insurance behind second-year QB Ryan Tannehill. We're expecting Tannehill to play like a QB2 with upside in 2013 with added weapons like WR Mike Wallace and TE Dustin Keller.

MIA - WR Mike Wallace working on routes

Source: NationalFootballPost.com - Len Pasquarelli

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace has worked on improving his route running this offseason because he wants to show he is more than a deep threat.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wallace has a lot of room for improvement with his route running. He's basically a '9' route guy who can use his speed to get on top of the defense in a hurry. Wallace will be used to stretch the field for the Dolphins in 2013. We'll see if he can improve his route running and become a favorite target for second-year QB Ryan Tannehill.

IND - Believe RB Ahmad Bradshaw will help running game

Source: NationalFootballPost.com - Len Pasquarelli

The Indianapolis Colts believe RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) will help their running game this season even though he has not fully recovered from the foot surgery he had this offseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if Bradshaw can be ready sometime during training camp. He's a good runner and receiver out of the backfield and the team's best all-purpose runner. Bradshaw is a good fit for the new Pep Hamilton West Coast offense. His current ADP is RB26 and he's coming off the board at 4.12 in 12 team PPR leagues.

NFL - Two FAs would like to sign before camp

Source: NationalFootballPost.com - Len Pasquarelli

Free-agent RB Michael Turner (Falcons) and DE John Abraham (Falcons) would like to sign with a team before the start of training camp but neither has been able to find a contract to their liking. Neither player has considered retirement at this point.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Turner may have to wait until injuries hit the RB position in camp before getting another shot. The power back is no longer the player he used to be but could provide quality veteran depth. Abraham could get a veteran minimum deal for a team looking for a part time pass rusher.

TEN - Want QB Jake Locker to be more patient

Source: NationalFootballPost.com - Len Pasquarelli

The Tennessee Titans coaching staff would like to see QB Jake Locker improve his accuracy and be more patient in the pocket but do not want to totally subjugate his raw athleticism.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a delicate balance that Locker and the team will have to monitor. They don't want to force him to stay in the pocket when he can pick up yards with his legs. However, he needs to go through his progressions quicker and have a better understanding of coverage as a passer.

HOU - Looking for a young WR to develop

Source: NationalFootballPost.com - Len Pasquarelli

The Houston Texans are looking for WR DeVier Posey, WR Keshawn Martin or WR Lestar Jean to develop into a viable No. 3 wide receiver this season and a possible replacement for WR Andre Johnson in the future.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Texans finally got a decent WR2 this offseason when they selected DeAndre Hopkins in the first-round of the 2013 NFL draft. When Johnson is done playing in Houston then Hopkins will take over as the lead receiver. Posey, Martin, and Jean might be best suited as third-string WRs. We'll see if any of those guys flourish in 2013.

BAL - ILB Jameel McClain remains optimistic

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson

Baltimore Ravens ILB Jameel McClain (spine) remains optimistic he will ultimately gain full medical clearance after suffering a spinal cord contusion last December against the Washington Redskins. McClain participated in football drills on a limited basis during offseason practices and has no restrictions in his exercise regimen. 'I'm in shape, I'm working hard, I'm trimming up and getting ready for the season,' McClain said Saturday, July 6, during his annual football and fitness clinic at Reisterstown Regional Park. 'It's time for gametime. It's in the doctors' hands.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Getting McClain back on the field will be a big boost for the Ravens defense. He could start at Middle Linebacker next to rookie Arthur Brown (Kansas State) if he's cleared to resume playing.

ATL - CB Desmond Trufant looking to learn from CB Asante Samuel

Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Daniel Cox

Atlanta Falcons CB Desmond Trufant said he has been watching CB Asante Samuel during offseason workouts and hopes to learn a lot from him. 'You can always learn from a guy like that. His instincts are off the charts. He plays the ball so well. Iím going to take whatever I can from him,' Trufant said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Trufant is an exciting rookie to watch. He's got the speed to transition from his backpedal quickly and keep up with speedy WRs down the field. Trufant also has good click and close ability to help in run support. He should start for the Falcons from day one.

NFL - ILB Ray Lewis scrubs Mount Kilimanjaro climb

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson

Retired Baltimore Ravens ILB Ray Lewis was unable to take part in a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro due to a foot injury and fever, according to the charitable organization, TackleKili. Prior to the climb, TackleKili said that Lewis' fever spiked and his foot began swelling. The mission organization for World Serve International and Pros for Africa, TackleKili said Lewis made the choice to not go forward with the climb due to his health.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Deer antler spray should clear that right up.
