NYG - Big money in a bounce back year for Nicks

Source: Joel Corry - CBSSports.com

Joel Corry, former agent and current writer for CBSSports.com, believes Giants WR Hakeem Nicks could land a big money deal if he bounces back from a disappointing 2012 season. If he gets back on track in 2013 Nicks could command in excess of $10MM per season because of his talent and big play ability.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nicks has the talent to be a top 15 WR in the NFL but is coming off the worst statistical season in his career. He caught only 53 passes for 692 yards and three touchdowns as he worked through nagging knee and foot injuries. In 2010 & 2011 combined Nicks had over 150 catches, over 2,200 yards receiving and 18 TD grabs. The talent is there, he just needs to stay healthy if he wants to break the bank next offseason.

CHI - Taking a wait and see approach with QB Cutler

Source: Joel Corry - CBSSports.com

The Chicago Bears have taken a wait and see approach with QB Jay Cutler as he enters the final year of his contract. The team has made several upgrades and changes on the offensive side of the ball and are looking for Cutler to reap the rewards.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bears have made a ton of strong moves this offseason. They added free agent LT Jermon Bushrod to be the blind side protector for Cutler. The team also went out and signed free agent TE Martellus Bennett to upgrade the weapons for Cutler to throw to. In the 2013 NFL draft they selected RG Kyle Long in the first-round and will feature an offense where Cutler gets rid of the ball quickly. These moves should lead to Cutler having a very good season. He's a value for fantasy owners at QB17. His current ADP has him coming off the board at 11.11.

TB - Not sold on QB Josh Freeman as QB of the future?

Source: Joel Corry - CBSSports.com

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are not sold on Josh Freeman as their QB of the future according to former agent Joel Corry from CBSSports.com. The team is comfortable letting Freeman play out the final season of his five-year, $32.14 million rookie contract. They also added a QB they think could be the long-term answer when they selected Mike Glennon (NC State) in the third-round of the 2013 NFL draft.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Freeman finished the season on a down note with nine interceptions over the last three games of the season. Before week 15 Freeman had 25 TD passes and only eight interceptions. He set franchise records for passing yards (4,065) and passing touchdowns (27) in 2012. Freeman could get a large contract if he plays more consistently and stays away from the mistakes that plagued him late last season. The Buccaneers have to realize Glennon may need more work to develop as a passer and rushing him into the starting lineup this year or next may not be the best idea.

SD - Rivers in make or break year?

Source: Joel Corry - CBSSports.com

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers can no longer be considered elite after two disappointing seasons. He has a $15MM cap number in 2014 and many believe he's in a make or break year in 2013.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We believe that new Chargers head coach Mike McCoy can bring out the best in Rivers. In an interview on The Audible Chargers beat writer Michael Gehlken from the SD Union-Tribune says that Rivers has been one of the most impressive players this offseason. Rivers is a value in fantasy leagues right now. His current ADP is QB19 and he's coming off the board at 12.11 in 12 team leagues.

SEA - Michael a star in the making?

Source: Nick Eaton - Seattle Post-Intelligencer

Many feel rookie RB Christine Michael (Texas A&M) is a star in the making. In fact, ESPN.com's Matt Williams wrote this in a recent piece on the rookie. “Expect Pete Carroll and company to harness Michael’s great talent by bringing him along slowly. By 2016, he will be a total stud and a true every-down running back. Ignoring their extenuating circumstances, (Marcus) Lattimore and Michael are the most talented all-around running backs from this latest draft class.”

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sigmund Bloom nicknamed Michael 'Starbucks' because of his highly caffeinated running style. Michael's legs churn like jackhammers when he's running between the tackles and he's difficult to bring down. Cecil Lammey was impressed with Michael earlier this year during the week of practice for the Shrine Game. However, he did note Michael's full speed had not quite returned at that time. Michael has severe durability concerns after his junior (knee) and sophomore (leg) seasons were cut short by injury. Michael will compete with second-year RB Robert Turbin to be the primary backup behind Marshawn Lynch in 2013.

MIA - McNutt has connection to WR coach O'Keefe

Source: Alain Poupart - MiamiDolphins.com

Miami Dolphins WR Marvin McNutt has a connection to the team's WR coach Ken O'Keefe from their days together at the University of Iowa. O'Keefe was McNutt's offensive coordinator for the Hawkeyes and he knows how to use the second-year WR to his fullest potential. In three years McNutt became the school’s all-time leading receiver with 170 catches for 2,861 yards and 28 touchdowns.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McNutt was a sixth-round pick by the Eagles in 2012 but the team decided to let him go earlier this offseason. He's a huge target who knows how to frame his shoulders to the QB and come back to the ball. However, McNutt is not a quick twitch player and struggles to gain separation against NFL coverage. He's competing for one of the final spots on the depth chart.

CAR - Ginn wants more WR work

Source: Steve Reed - Associated Press

New Carolina Panthers WR Ted Ginn wants to get used more on offense this year. “I want to show the world that I can still play receiver,” Ginn said. “I got kind of bashed over the years, being labeled a specialist.”

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ginn caught only two passes last year for the 49ers and is looking to make the most of his fresh start in Carolina. “I want to get back on track,” Ginn said. "Last year was a tough season. We went to the Super Bowl. But individually, I didn’t feel like I got the proper reps I was supposed to.” The Panthers don't have any established WRs behind Steve Smith so there might be some room for Ginn to impress. We're not counting on him as a fantasy factor in 2013.

SEA - Winfield hasn't allowed TD catch in last three years

Source: Jayson Jenks - Seattle Times

Seahawks free agent addition Antoine Winfield gets high marks from Pro Football Focus. According to the site Winfield has not allowed a touchdown catch over the last three seasons.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Winfield was a fantastic addition by the Seahawks this offseason. He'll be the team's third (nickel) CB behind Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner. The 36-year old veteran is still playing at the top of his game and gives the Seahawks the strongest secondary in the league.

NYJ - Sanchez ahead of Smith due to experience

Source: James Walker - ESPN.com

Mark Sanchez may be ahead of rookie Geno Smith (West Virginia) at this time on the Jets depth chart due to his experience according to ESPN.com's James Walker. However, most consider Smith the better talent with more upside. The two will compete for the starting job in training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith has been struggling to impress this offseason as the rookie gets used to the pro game. Even if Sanchez begins the season as the starter we think Smith will get a crack at the job at some point in 2013.

PIT - Polamalu changed offseason workout program

Source: Joel Corry - CBSSports.com

Pittsburgh Steelers SS Troy Polamalu only played in seven games last season due to a problematic calf injury. He has changed his offseason workout to hopefully improve his durability in 2013.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Some think age is catching up with the hard hitting 32-year old veteran. The Steelers are a different (worse) defense when he's not on the field. If they want to make a serious playoff push then Polamalu needs to be healthy.

MIN - Crucial for Allen to erase concerns about his age in 2013

Source: Joel Corry - CBSSports.com

Minnesota Vikings DE Jared Allen has not been negotiating with the team for a new long-term deal even though he's entering the final year of his contract in 2013. He only had 12 sacks last season as he fought through nagging shoulder and knee problems. It is crucial for Allen to erase any concerns that his dropoff was due to age since he will turn 32 next year.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Allen needs to stay healthy if he wants to play up to his potential. He had off-season surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder and a torn meniscus in his right knee. We'll see if he can get back on track this year and push for the NFL lead in sacks.

SF - OLB Aldon Smith would like to set sack record

Source: NFL.com - Dan Hanzus

San Francisco 49ers LB Aldon Smith said he would like to set the single-season sack record but will not worry about accomplishing the feat. 'It's a goal, but I'm not punching myself in the face at the end of the season if I don't get it,' Smith said. 'I'm young, and I'm learning a lot and I'm getting better. My goal is really just to get better every year. As long as I do that, if it was 14, then 19.5, at that rate it should keep going. Hopefully, I should be able to trump that record and keep going.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We wouldn't put it past Smith to lead the league in sacks. He's a near lock for around 15 sacks in 2013.
