NE - Optimism surrounding TE Rob Gronkowski

Source: USA Today - Mike Garafolo

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back, forearm), who underwent surgery to fix a spinal issue in his back Tuesday, June 18, has hopes of returning to action late in August, during the preseason. However, Gronkowski isn't a lock to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. He's likely to begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list but will be eligible to come off at any point before Week 1.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If no other negative news comes out about Gronkowski's condition, this is as low as his ADP and dynasty value will get for a long time. This first piece of somewhat positive news on his back surgery recovery schedule should move his ADP up, or at least stop the slide it has been on since the offseason started.

NE - TE Aaron Hernandez questioned by police

Source: SI.com - Pete Thamel

New England Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez was questioned by police investigating a possible homicide in a town 40 miles south of Boston Tuesday, June 18. The police were interested in possibly searching Hernandez's home. He's not believed to be a murder suspect, though, but a vehicle that was rented in his name has become a key piece of evidence. The police are hoping to analyze the vehicle for fingerprints. A body was found Monday, June 17, less than a mile from Hernandez's home.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There is still a lot to be determined with this story and what it means for Hernandez. Hernandez was considered a character risk by some going into the 2010 draft, which is part of the reason he fell to the fourth round. A source told Sports Illustrated that Hernandez has spoken to police, which is a good sign that he is cooperating with them. There were early reports that he was not being cooperative with the police. We'll obviously stay on this one closely for you as it plays out.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz contract update

Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz

It is believed the New York Giants and WR Victor Cruz are separated by $3 million in guaranteed money. The Giants are believed to be offering $12-15 million in guaranteed money and Cruz is seeking $15-18 million in guaranteed money.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even at 15-18 million guaranteed, the Giants would be getting a very good price on a proven, durable, athletic wide receiver in his prime. Cruz's price is being deflated because he is a slot receiver, but he is still integral to the success of the Giants offense.

HOU - RB Vonta Leach prefers team

Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Free-agent RB Vonta Leach (Ravens) said he'll decide on a new team within two weeks, but he prefers to sign with the Houston Texans.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Texans already have lead-blocking jackhammer Greg Jones, so there might not be a spot for Leach. Either way, Arian Foster's outlook can't be hurt by the change back to a true lead-blocking fullback from last year's starter, James Casey. Casey is a versatile tight end/H-back/fullback tweener who will fit well as a "tazer" in Chip Kelly's offense.

DEN - RB Ronnie Hillman thinks he can carry the load

Source: NFL.com - Dan Hanzus

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman is confident that he can carry the load as the team's featured back this season, despite his size. 'You get that when you're a smaller guy,' Hillman said. 'You can't take the pounding, but I just brush it off. Of course you hear things. I'm not going to sit here and say I don't hear what they say, but you just got to let it go.' Hillman put on 15 pounds of muscle in the offseason, but the team has told him they'd like him to play around 190 to 195 pounds.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hillman might see himself as a featured back, but every indication out of Denver is that they see him as a complementary back that can provide a change of pace, especially outside of the tackles. He did not earn Peyton Manning's trust as a pass blocker last year, nor did he flash much in the way of playmaking ability, so he is probably an end of the bench lottery ticket unless he continues to run with the first team through the third week of the preseason.

DAL - Agree to terms with WR Terrance Williams

Source: Twitter

The Dallas Cowboys and WR Terrance Williams agreed to terms Thursday, June 18. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams will be groomed as a long term replacement for Miles Austin, but he might have trouble overtaking Dwayne Harris for the #3 role this year, as Harris had a terrific end to 2012, with buzz building around him in the offseason. Bryan Broaddus, a former scout who writes for the official Cowboys site said earlier this offseason that "Harris along with (Dez) Bryant has made the biggest jump as a receiver in the terms of route running and catching the ball."

KC - Have shown interest in RB Vonta Leach

Source: The Daily Reflector - Tony Castleberry

The Kansas City Chiefs have shown interested in signing free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Ravens).

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Leach would be an upgrade to an unstable fullback situation, not that Jamaal Charles needs any help. The Texans and Ravens running games have flourished with Leach leading the way, so the addition of Leach would be just another reason to target Charles in the first round this year.

TB - Vincent Jackson praises QB

Source: The Tampa Tribune - Ira Kaufman

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson said QB Josh Freeman has returned a far more comfortable and confident quarterback in the second year in offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan's system.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's good news for the whole Tampa offense, and it gives us an explanation for Freeman's acutely terrible play down the stretch last year. The NFC South promises to be the highest scoring division in the NFL this year.

CAR - Two getting reps

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers RBs DeAngelo Williams and Mike Tolbert received plenty of repetitions in OTAs with RB Jonathan Stewart (ankles) on the mend.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stewart might not be ready for training camp, so Williams has a lot of hidden value if Stewart isn't right all season. Tolbert has already shown that he can be very productive as a receiver out of the backfield and a goal-line back, so he should be on your waiver wire speed dial if Stewart struggles this season.

CAR - TE Greg Olsen showing rapport with Cam Newton

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen is showing great timing with QB Cam Newton during offseason workouts.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers haven't had a wide receiver emerge opposite Steve Smith, so Olsen has as much upside as any of the tight ends in the second tier. Olsen came on in the second half of 2012 and has momentum heading into the 2013 season, even without tight end guru Rob Chudzinski, who is now the head coach in Cleveland.

NE - QB Ryan Mallett continuing to impress

Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots QB Ryan Mallett continues to draw rave reviews at practice. 'He's got arm strength like I've never seen. Ever,' RB Shane Vereen said. 'He uses that really well. He's got tremendous leadership ability. He just needs his opportunity, I think.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brian Hoyer was overhyped out of Patriots practices for the last few years and found few takers on the open market, so we need to be careful to not put too much stock in this buzz. Mallett's stock is definitely up from his third-round draft slot (mostly due to character concerns), but it is unknown whether he is seen as starter material around the league.

JAX - Could show interest in ILB Desmond Bishop

Source: ProFootballTalk.com

The Jacksonville Jaguars could show interest in free-agent LB Desmond Bishop (Packers).

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jags might be thinking of moving Bishop to one of their outside linebacker spots, or moving Paul Posluszny to open up a spot for him in the middle. Geno Hayes and Russell Allen are the other two starting linebackers as of this moment, so Bishop would be a big upgrade.

KC - ILB Desmond Bishop to visit

Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent LB Desmond Bishop (Packers) will visit with the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, June 20.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bishop would be a perfect fit next to Derrick Johnson in the Chiefs' 3-4 defense, and his addition would up their sleeper playoff team status. He might not return to LB1 or even LB2 levels in Kansas City, so Bishop's dynasty owners should hope for him to land in Minnesota instead.
