CLE - WR Josh Gordon suspended

Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon has been suspended two games for an NFL substance abuse violation. Gordon will also be fined four games pay. Gordon said he had strep throat in February, and did not realize the cough medicine he took had codeine in it, which resulted in the two game suspension.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon could have been suspended longer but the drug violations he had in college don't count in the NFL. He admitted to three failed drug tests in college at Baylor and subsequently at Utah. Gordon is a great fit for the new Norv Turner offense because of his downfield speed and ball tracking ability. He'll be available to play in week three and should see his ADP drop slightly upon this news.

MIA - RB Lamar Miller clear favorite for RB job

Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller is the clear favorite to win the starting running back job during training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Miller has the ability to be a top 15 RB this year if he stays healthy and plays up to his potential. That makes him a value at his current ADP of RB23. Daniel Thomas and rookie Mike Gillislee (Florida) will compete for the backup job in training camp.

NYG - RB David Wilson ready to compete for No. 1 RB job

Source: Giants.com - Michael Eisen

New York Giants running backs coach Jerald Ingram said he believes RB David Wilson is in position to earn the starting running back job during training camp. 'I think hes grown. He has a fairly good understanding of the offense right now. Hes definitely in position to be the guy, but I think just like what weve done in the past here, were going to be a rotation type team and what certain backs do best, well play. I think hes a playmaker. Hes definitely going to contribute and help us out. There are some goals that he has to accomplish for us. Hes definitely on a better track than he was a year ago in understanding our protections and doing those kinds of things,' Ingram said. Wilson has attended every offseason workout this offseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson is a talented player who led the NCAA in yards after contact during his final season at Virginia Tech. He should be the team's lead back over veteran Andre Brown. This will be a RBBC with Brown getting the short yardage and goalline carries. Wilson should get most of the receptions out of the backfield.

CLE - Two expected to compete for No. 2 RB job

Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

Cleveland Browns RBs Montario Hardesty and Chris Ogbonnaya are expected to compete for the No. 2 running back during training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hardesty is the more talented back but durability issues have plagued his career dating back to his college days at Tennessee. 'Silent G' (Obgonnaya) is a good all-purpose runner who can contribute between the tackles or as a receiver out of the backfield.

PHI - Unlikely to name starting QB until camp

Source: CSNPhilly.com - Geoff Mosher

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly indicated that he's unlikely to name a starting quarterback until sometime after training camp starts in late July. 'We have an understanding of their athletic ability and how they run, change direction and things like that. But there are still a lot of things to be evaluated when you put the pads on,' Kelly said. 'It's still a physical game. A lot of guys look great in shorts and T shirts, then they disappear when you put the pads on. Until we get the pads on, we can't tell.' QBs Michael Vick and Nick Foles split repetitions with the first team 50-50 through minicamps. QB Matt Barkley worked with the third team throughout camp, but Kelly said the personnel groupings mean little so far.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The battle between Vick and Foles should last through training camp. Neither are perfect fits for the Kelly system. It will be interesting to see what adaptations Kelly brings to the table now that he's coaching at the pro level.

NYG - Coach believes top two WRs can get up to speed quickly

Source: Giants.com - Michael Eisen

New York Giants wide receivers coach Kevin M. Gilbride said he believes it will take WRs Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks to get up to speed once they report, but they should be able to ready fairly quickly. 'I think it all takes work and timing and development of your individual skills, of your grasp of the offense and the detail. I dont think its easy, but I think those two, Victor and Hakeem, have the ability and the mental capacity to step in and basically play catch up like we talked about and get caught up pretty quickly,' Gilbride said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We agree with Gilbride here. Both Nicks and Cruz are seasoned veterans who don't need every single rep in camp. We'll see if these contract situations can clear up for both players before we start training camp near the beginning of August.

NO - TE Jimmy Graham likely will look for big contract

Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune - Larry Holder

New Orleans Saints TE Jimmy Graham likely will look for a contract bigger than the six-year, $53 million contract New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski signed. Graham will be a free agent after the 2013 season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham is worth every penny. With the injury concerns of both Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez it makes Graham the safest elite TE to take in your fantasy draft.

SD - QB Philip Rivers thinks his best play is yet to come

Source: USAToday.com - Lindsay H. Jones

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers said he believes his best football is ahead of him even though he is around the midpoint of his career. 'I think my best football is ahead of me, I really do,' Rivers said. 'That's being optimistic, because we've had a lot of really good years. I am probably on the second half of my career, the back end, but I think I've got a lot of good football left.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We agree with Rivers here. He's been slumping over the last few years but gets a fresh start with new head coach Mike McCoy. Rivers will benefit from an improved offensive line featuring first-round pick RT D.J. Fluker. Getting WR Vincent Brown back from his injury will boost the WR corps and help Rivers as well.

TEN - OC changing playbook

Source: The Tennessean - David Climer

Tennessee Titans WR Kendall Wright said offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has completely changed the team's offensive playbook and had not kept anything from last season. Loggains said the team will be a run-first team but will still throw the ball. 'In todays NFL, not throwing the ball a lot is still throwing it around 30 times a game,' Loggains said. 'We are going to be a run, play-action team first, but were still going to drop back and throw the football.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if the play action passing game helps the play of QB Jake Locker. The ground game featuring Chris Johnson and Shonn Greene should help keep defenses honest. Locker needs to stay healthy and play up to his potential this season.

CHI - QB Jay Cutler and Mike Tice had ugly relationship

Source: CSNChicago.com - John Mullin

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler and offensive coordinator Mike Tice were on such bad terms last season that QB Josh McCown had to act as a liason between the two. Tice is no longer with the team. 'I was just talking to McCown this morning and one of the things we said is it's so cool to come to work where it's not one of those things where it's dreadful,' WR Brandon Marshall said this week.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cutler could have a better relationship with new head coach Marc Trestman. That could help Cutler play better in 2013 and better utilize the weapons around him. The Bears have done a good job upgrading their offense line and receiving weapons this offseason. Cutler is a nice value at QB18 and can be part of a quality rotation if you wait until the later rounds to draft a quarterback.

CHI - Will not sign any QBs that worked out

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

The Chicago Bears will not sign free-agent QB JaMarcus Russell (Raiders), QB Trent Edwards (Eagles) or QB Jordan Palmer (Jaguars) after working them out earlier this week.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bears were just updating their emergency list. At this time they're comfortable with Josh McCown and Matt Blanchard as the backups behind Jay Cutler.

ARI - Coach high on TE Rob Housler

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians is impressed with TE Rob Housler and believes he is a wide receiver playing tight end. 'I think the sky is the limit as far as where he can get talent-wise,' Arians said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Housler is an athletic move TE who has been developing and waiting for his opportunity since he was a third-round pick in the 2011 NFL draft. We like him as a low end TE2 with upside. His current ADP is TE19 and he's coming off the board at 13.09 in 12 team PPR leagues.

NFL - QB JaMarcus Russell willing to play in Canada

Source: ESPN - Chris Mortensen

Free-agent QB JaMarcus Russell (Raiders) is willing to play in Canada if he cant get a deal with an NFL team, according to Jeff Garcia, who has been training with him.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Russell just wants to get back to football. He's been working hard with Garcia at T.E.S.T. West to make a comeback. Russell still has a rocket arm but needs to prove he can stay out of trouble and make better decisions as a passer. The Ravens and Bears have shown interest in the 2007 number one overall pick.

TEN - TE Delanie Walker expected to return next week

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (knee) did not participate in organized team activities Thursday, June 6, but is expected to return to practice next week. The MRI done on Walker's knee was favorable.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Titans here. Walker is set to be the lead TE now that Jared Cook (Rams) has moved on in free agency. He needs to stay healthy and improve his concentration in order to play up to his potential in 2013.

NYG - RB David Wilson not concerned about carries

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Kieran Darcy

New York Giants RB David Wilson said he is not concerned about splitting carries with RB Andre Brown in 2013. 'I ain't worried about the carries, Im not worried about yards, or whos got the most touchdowns. Im just worried about both of us working together and being effective for the team and having a positive running game.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson should be the lead back for the Giants in 2013. He may lose out on short-yardage and goalline carries to Brown this season. That would limit his fantasy value somewhat but Wilson is still a low end RB2 with upside. His current ADP is RB20 and he's coming off the board at 3.07 in 12 team leagues.

NYG - RB Andre Brown feels great

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Kieran Darcy

New York Giants RB Andre Brown (leg) said he feels great during organized team activities after suffering a season ending leg injury in Week 12 of the 2012 season. 'I feel great,' Brown said Thursday. 'Legs feel 100 percent. Im running, jumping around, doing cartwheels and everything. Im 100 percent in every drill.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown is set to compete as a primary backup and power change of pace back behind David Wilson. If healthy Brown could get a majority of the short-yardage carries and red zone opportunities.

NFL - WR Terrell Owens prepared to retire

Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Free-agent WR Terrell Owens (Seahawks) is prepared to retire if teams remain uninterested in signing him.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Once his retirement is official the debate about his Hall of Fame credentials will begin. Owens hasn't played in the NFL since 2010 when he was with the Bengals. He was with the Seahawks last year during training camp but was released after only 20 days with the team.

BAL - TE Dennis Pitta should see more slot time

Source: CBSSports.com - Pete Prisco

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta should see more time in the slot with WR Anquan Boldin gone.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Ravens are going to use more two TE sets now that Boldin was traded to the 49ers. This means more time for Ed Dickson and Pitta. Expect the team to be creative with the way they use Pitta in 2013.

JAX - WR Cecil Shorts details offseason work

Source: CBSSports.com - Pete Prisco

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts has bulked up from 195 pounds to 202 pounds. He's hoping a strength boost will help him get off the line of scrimmage more effectively against press coverage. Shorts worked with rookies during the team's scheduled time off, and he'll train with Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald for the second straight summer.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Shorts has the ability to be a top 25 fantasy WR if he can only get decent play from the QB position. Justin Blackmon is going to be suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. This will lead to more targets for Shorts at the beginning of the year. Shorts has a current ADP of WR37 and he's coming off the board at 9.03 in 12 team PPR leagues.

MIA - Two appear to have claimed starting CB jobs

Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly

Miami Dolphins CB Brent Grimes and Richard Marshall appear to have won the starting cornerback jobs this offseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team needed to restructure their secondary after losing Sean Smith (Chiefs) in free agency. We'll see rookie Jamar Taylor (Boise State) compete for the nickel corner job in 2013.

ARI - S Tyrann Mathieu seeing time as nickel back

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu has received a lot of reps at nickel back during organized team activities. He has also been working as a safety with the second-team defense.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. The 'Honey Badger' should be a fine nickel corner at the pro level. He's not the biggest player but is incredibly feisty and does not back down from a challenge. Mathieu can also help as a dangerous return man because of his speed and elusiveness.
